Although it’s an extremely busy time at Barking Mad Dog Care, we still managed to register the youngest and oldest dogs we have on the books now for last minute holidays with our lovely host families.
The youngest pictured are Louis the French bulldog and Dojo the Chug who are five months old, and the oldest is Molly the 16 year old Bichon Frise. You can see more of their photos on holiday at https://www.facebook.com/BarkingMadDogCareSouthport
I’d like to also let you all know that the £180.70 you all kindly gave during our event at Tesco Kew in June has been donated with sincere thanks to The Oldies Club. http://www.oldies.org.uk
Sarah on the team used to foster dogs for ‘Oldies’ and knows only too well the good work they do?
Summer is here and I attended the annual Ainsdale Horticultural Show on The Village Green. The sun was out, the band was playing and the atmosphere was great!
I met lots of lovely people interested in being host families , dogs who popped over for a cool drink and their owners who came to say hello.
On the 24th June for the first time we had a 12 hour stint at Tesco Extra at Kew, Southport to show off our recent new logo and we gained lots of interest . We gave away a few hundred Barking Mad ‘Bags For Life, ’ Barking Mad pens and about 100 dog walking helium balloons to children and teens. Biscuit the fluffy dog was with us all day and children enjoyed stroking him and giving him his toy. It was amazing how many people thought he was real at a glance! We unexpectedly raised £180.70 for local animal charities too which was all down to the generosity of the local shoppers. Some of our current lovely host families and customer’s dogs came to say hello too like Ollie pictured with Sarah.
Another shopper brought her mini Chihuahua Gizmo for a cuddle and as you can imagine Gizmo got lots of attention. As a result of a fabulous day we now have another 4 host families on board joining our Barking Mad family!
Much fun was had by all at the RSPCA Fun Day which Sarah attended . The weather was great and we met all creatures great and small from a small pup who wanted to sit with us to a St Bernard.
We were extremely blessed with the weather for Strutt Your Mutt and had a great turnout with all dogs great and small. It was great to join forces with Julie and the Queenscourt Hospice team and we made sure that we had a copius supply of drinking water available for our furry walkers.
Over a hundred dog owners took part and strutted along Ainsdale beach carefully looked after by the marshalls, and Joanne in the team walked with her two dogs Millie and Macey. I grabbed the opportunity to try and raise some extra cash for the Hospice with ‘Guess the amount of dog biscuits in the jar?’ whilst people were registering, getting to know each other and putting on their attire. This alone raised over £50. Queenscourt Hospice are still waiting for all the sponsorship money to come in.
Thank you to everyone for your support for such a local worthy cause!
I’m very excited to announce that Barking Mad Southport are the main sponsors of the event ‘Strutt Your Mutt ‘ taking place on Sunday 9th April at 9.30am starting at Pontins, Ainsdale, Southport. The event is a 5k sponsored walk organised by Queenscourt Hospice and this is the second year it will be taking place. It is a great local cause and will help raise much needed funds.
If you want to join us for a lovely walk with your four legged friend, you can sign up by following the link below:
There will be a prize for the dog that raises the most funds and a fabulous doggy hamper with two runners up prizes. Our team will be out in force on the day so I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Please spread the word to family and friends.
Happy New Year everyone!
Our host families very much enjoyed the company of their visiting dogs over Christmas and New Year. There are a number of photos on my Facebook page-Barking Mad Dog Care (Southport) and a few people have already booked for next Christmas and New Year 2017/18. You can be rest assured that your dogs will have a lovely festive season too as they are welcomed as part of the family.
Due to the success of Barking Mad Southport, West Lancs & North Mersey, BIG news is we have now become VAT registered from the 1st January. Thank you so much to all my existing customers for your continued loyalty, and I’m also extremely pleased that new customers are continuing to register with our first class service. I really have kept prices to a minimum!
We continue this year with our loyalty card and regulars really do benefit from those free days. Keep spreading the word and I look forward to sorting out many more happy dog holidays this year. You really cannot book too soon ;) x
Well a busy month for Christmas Fayres, and Barking Mad were there as always to support the RSPCA at Greenbank High school, Hillside in Southport on 4th December . We now feature an advert in their A4 folder when people adopt animals at the centre as a sponsor ;).
If any of you can spare any blankets for either the RSPCA or Freshfields they are always welcome. They are also in need of specialist foods for those who have dietary requirements. There are also quite a number of dogs in need of a forever home.
December 23rd was personally a sad time for my family as we had to say goodbye to our gorgeous and special 12 year old Casey . Having started her journey in life in Crete and was rescued and brought to Germany where we rehomed her, she has been everywhere with us. She lived in Germany and Belgium and been camping in France and Holland, then finally travelled back to England with us. Such a gentle and loving girl! She is greatly missed as a big part of our family.
October and November 2016
Our fabulous hosts in Southport have found a new dog café that opened in September called ‘The Wagging Tail Café.’ They have enjoyed walking their dogs on holiday and treating them to a bit of dog cake on the menu. They have comfy beds for the dogs, a Halloween event and serve many items from cupcakes, popcorn and ice-cream-see the link below:
http://www.thewaggingtail.co.uk/ Definitely worth a visit!
Another online service for homemade dog biscuit treats is the Doggy Love Bakery in Liverpool . I met these lovely people at the RSPCA fun Dog Show on the 9th October and purchased a couple of bags for my own dogs. Details can be found online or on the banner in the photo below.
I don’t know about you, but here at Barking Mad, we’ve enjoyed the beautiful weather this month which has been very unusual for this time of the year! More lovely walks with our dogs on holiday enjoying the warm sunshine.
This year we are attending the Fun Dog Show at the RSPCA on New Cut Lane in Southport on Sunday 9th October starting at midday till approximately 4pm. This has replaced Paws in the Park at Hesketh Park .The West Lancs dog display team will be there, along with other lovely dog related stalls and fun fundraising activities for both adults and children. Dogs are welcome on a lead. It would be great to see as many of you there as possible to support this great charity which relies on donations.
Wow.. that was a busy one! The busiest summer yet and I’m amazed that there are always last minute enquiries where people have been let down. Fortunately as we have many special host families in the local area, we always have a backup in case of illness or any other unexpected situation. Here’s just a few of our happy dogs on their summer holidays:
It was great to see so many existing customers and host families at Ainsdale Summer Fayre this month. Windy as it was, holding onto our balloons and gazebo, and strategically placing items so they wouldn’t blow away, a great day was had by all. There was so much interest in looking after dogs on holiday, it was great. See you there next year!
Well I’m overwhelmed by the number of host families joining us at Barking Mad Southport, West Lancs and N Mersey. I’ve taken on ten more lovely families since January and this number is growing weekly. One particular amazing couple Samantha and Andrew I met in Southport a few days ago, told me all about an upcoming event called ‘Strutt Your Mutt’ which is a 5k fun sponsored dog walk organised by Queenscourt Hospice at the end of April. It’s particularly close to their heart as Andrew’s mum is receiving help from the Hospice at the moment for his mum who needs care. They are fabulous hosts and Samantha is an amazing artist-examples to follow soon of her amazing pet artwork!
I have decided to donate a £100 to sponsor this great cause and of course it’s doggy related so it would be great if we could have as many Barking Mad people on board as possible to support them.
The date in question is Sunday 24th April at 9.30am. The event starts at Pontins in Ainsdale, Southport and then the event itself is a lovely walk along the beach at Ainsdale for a great local cause. You can register online with the following link or call them on 01704 517420.
More details will follow when you have registered. Sarah (a host and one of my team) and her family with her border collie Cassie have already registered and will definitely be there!
There is a prize too for the dog who raises the most, so what are you waiting for ;)
Happy New Year and then there were 4!

RSPCA Xmas Fayre
I always support my local RSPCA and enjoy meeting everyone at the stand. I gave lots of 2016 Barking Mad calendars and Barking Mad bags away this year… and spent a lot all for a good cause. It was worth it too as Spot the staffy spent many months in the RSPCA waiting to be rehomed and the lovely Lynn thought our service was perfect for him for her holidays next year-he definitely needed home from home care and was a new addition to her family. Spot settled in a treat with Sue and Mark for his trial sleepover and was lovely.
I also met Kerry at this event where she was selling Aloe Vera products-Forever Living. As well as finding some fabulous products for myself, I learnt that some of the products could also be used on dogs for such things as skin conditions and much more. For more information Kerry can be contacted on 07450014926.
Host Get Together
It was that time of year again for our annual Christmas time host gathering and this year it was held at The Arion at Ainsdale. Host families old and new met for a sandwich platter with crisps and chips and it was lovely to see everyone chatting. As they’re all such special, caring people with their love of dogs in common, there’s always something to talk about and though some had never met before, it was enjoyed by all. Here’s to another successful year and huge, big thanks to them all! CHEERS
Southport College Festive Market
This year I met students as well as staff and other interesting new traders and it was a chance again to spread the word. Our £5000 prize national competition was coming to a close too so there was much interest. Another few new very happy customers on board!
New contacts-Dog Training
I thought it was about time I stopped off to introduce myself at K9 of LC dog Training Academy and what good timing. I passed it many a time on my way home with its landmark of 2 Great Dane stone heads at the entrance. Donna was busy as dogs were arriving ready for a class but when the rush was over, we had a good chat and it was good to learn more about each other’s dog business. Her husband Les is a trainer and other members of their team .As well as holding dog classes on site, Les will come out to your home and do one to one if preferred. Donna took me through to watch the class for a few minutes on the very spacious grassed area and they were all very well behaved. I couldn’t resist making some purchases before my departure; a massive bag of food for my own dogs, some treats and a Frisbee (as I go through them on a weekly basis as I watch them sink in water!)..very handy indeed. I really liked what I saw and what a lovely lady! If you require dog training, please check their website and your first 30mins consultation is FREE. Thanks Donna ;)
Brilliant news and I can’t believe how time has flown! It’s now been two years since I took over the Southport, West Lancs and North Mersey area. Business has literally doubled and I have two part time staff now too. New customers are constantly registering with us and word of mouth is wonderful-thanks to all my lovely loyal customers and hosts. I really haven’t stopped, and Barking Mad is booming! To top it off this year, I received the award for Business Builder 2015 at our annual conference. I feel very blessed that I love my job!
I’ve been very busy out and about meeting some dog groomers this month. Dougie my regular chocolate Labrador on holiday was my motivation for this. His owner Denise was so happy with her local dog groomer that I decided to pay them a visit. Bow Wow Wow is in a wonderful location with extremely friendly, professional staff that welcomed me immediately and gave me a tour. It was a very relaxing atmosphere I felt for the dogs and they have lavender candles too for this purpose. They were busy with their hairdryers and I said hello to the dogs being groomed. I’ve just got a new customer from them too called Ted who recently went on his first Barking Mad sleepover ready for his big holiday.
I’ve added them to my local links so don’t hesitate to pay them a visit. Another groomer I spotted on a roadside board was The Dog House in Burscough. I paid Greg a visit and likewise he gave me a tour of his large grooming shed at the bottom of his garden. His website has some photos of the dogs he’s groomed for your information. If you can recommend any local dog related businesses, please let me know.
Autumn 2014 - The New Team, one year on!

We tend to any health issues, usually at expense, caring for the animals, nurturing them in the hope that we can re-home them to loving people in the future. Please... help us to help them!
