Welcome! We are Barking Mad and offer dog sitting in the Southport, North Mersey and West Lancs areas. The expected perception of dog kennels has become superseded by a better option - you no longer need to place your much loved pet in a scenario that you wouldn’t be comfortable leaving them in at your own home. Barking Mad is a better alternative to traditional kennels as the service provided directly by people who will stay with them in their own homes giving your dog a holiday too.
Dogs are pack animals therefore you and your family undoubtedly are a part of that pack. When they don't have their pack around them this can be a stressful time for your dog. By making sure that they still have all of their personal items such as their blanket, bowl and toys around this can really help reduce the sort of anxiety they would otherwise experience. Matching your needs to the right host family is really important to us. We want to make sure that we get it right so that while you are away your dog is having a great time too. Ours is a bespoke dog sitting service, delivered by handpicked sitters who will really take care of your dog while you are away in just the way you like.
All the hosts on our database have been personally vetted by our specialist team to ensure that you and your pet, the customers, have the very best service possible. It's important to keep to a routine and this normally include the time of day they're usually walked and fed. Should your dog requires any special attention such as medicine given they we will assist with this too.
We're Southport, North Mersey and West Lancs favourite alternative to dog kennels with a number of host people just ready to care for you precious family pet and our success record proves it. Take a look at what our previous customers say about us in the reviews. People who love their dog are inclined to love our service and it shows. Not only are we close to where you live but we have branches through the UK too all offering a great alternative to dog kennels. For those times you need cover elsewhere we can be there for you.
We seek to keep you well informed while you're away. Your pet will be no doubt be enjoying themselves but our regular updates for you will offer that extra confidence that your dog is being fully looking after. Our skilled dog carers will keep you informed and naturally if you had to be aware of something in an emergency we will contact you as soon as we are able but rest assured our host have the backing of a national chain of dog sitters whose only aim is to give you peace of mind and satisfaction for your dog sitting needs.
Barking Mad was started in the year 2000 because we realised that dog lovers all over the UK were missing a great bespoke dog caring service when they were required to go away for a short while, or even longer. Dog kennels we felt just weren't the best option as we were finding that anytime we used these services our dogs seemed a tad depressed every time suitcases came out of storage. If you are anything like us you'll see your dog as part of your family, a lot of people even see their dog as their child and we fully understand that. Would you genuinely want to put a member of your family in that scenario while you go on holiday?
We have a range of suitable candidates for our hosts and before you pick we invite you to meet with us to discuss your needs. Once you've made contact the rest of the process is very simple but it all starts off with a call or contact form submission. Get in touch today to see what Barking Mad is all about!

At the registration meeting you’ll receive one of our exclusive ‘Holiday Doggie Bags’ which you can pack with food, bowls, toys, treats and anything else to help your dog settle in more easily.
We even offer an unlimited luggage allowance at no extra charge!
Host families are given a Pet Schedule detailing all of the information we gathered at the initial registration meeting and we’re on hand 24 hours a day 7 days a week to support them.
We’ll send a photograph of your dog to you as soon as he’s been safely delivered to the host. The very next day we give you a ‘rest easy’ update, so you can then sit back, relax and enjoy the rest of your time away in the knowledge we’ve got everything covered.
On the day of return you’ll receive a fun postcard from the host and we’ll stamp your loyalty card so you can gain points which will entitle you to a free night away.
The best bit for us is seeing dogs happily settled-in and comfortable with their host. We will, wherever possible, be sure to use the same family each time you book a holiday. There are no minimum or maximum time limits we’re here whenever you need us.
Ask for your loyalty card. When your card is full you receive a FREE stay on us! (1 full card = 28 paw stamps).
If you love dogs but can’t commit to the full time financial and emotional responsibility of having a dog of your own, or if you have a very sociable dog who would benefit from visiting guests coming to stay, then you’ve come to the right place!
Our very own host families are extremely special people indeed. They have been selected carefully and interviewed in depth at home to ensure they meet our criteria. We get to know them really well and have worked with many of them for a great number of years.
Who are our hosts
It goes without saying, all of our hosts, without exception, are absolutely dotty about dogs. Some are actively retired people who’ve had dogs all of their lives but now enjoy the freedom and flexibility of caring for dogs on holiday. Others are younger, often with a family at home, where the addition of a visiting dog is great fun for all.
How it works
We’ve done all the hard work so you don’t have to. We think it’s important that our hosts concentrate on looking after visiting dogs and that they are not exposed to, or distracted by a constant flow of potential customers and dogs coming and going. Our hosts are also protected from the awkwardness of dealing with money, insurance and paperwork, so that the enjoyment of looking after visiting dogs remains their focus.
Support 24 Hours a Day – 7 Days a Week
Looking after someone else’s dog is great fun, however from time to time you may need a little local, on the ground support and it’s great to know we’re on hand 24/7 to provide just that.
If you’re interested in joining our fun, dog loving host community to become a pet sitter we’d love to hear from you.

"We recently had Fozzie for several days it was such a joy to have him my dog Wiggles loves him a lot.
My whole family love him as did our friends where we walk every day.
We look forward to his next visit.

"We enjoy looking after peoples dogs as it gives us pleasure to think they have come from home to home. Sometimes our commitments are heavy but It fits in with our lifestyle as we can do it as and when we can. It gives us pleasure and hopefully the pets enjoy our company too. Barking Mad are efficiently run and if I had a dog of my own would gladly let them find a host for my."

"Lulu has just been to me on her fourth visit. We've both had a lovely time and it seems strange today without her. She is well known and well loved by my friends and neighbours now as well as the local dogs. We all look forward to seeing her again soon."
Jackie - 6th Jan, 2017
"We had the pleasure of looking after Pip for 2 weeks over Christmas this year! We all loved having him for his 2nd visit with us. We enjoyed the walks (even in the cold and sometimes wet) and my children loved his company too!
I would love to have a dog of my own sometime soon, but looking after dogs with Barking Mad gives me the opportunity to see how a dog would fit into our lives, what challenges it might bring and what delights too! I can test out different breeds and ages too in case I go down the rescue dog route!
Definitely a win win option."
Brenda - 6th Jan, 2017
"We recently had Molly come to stay we all fell in love with her. My dog Wiggles loved her too
She was so good and had us laughing when she showed attention to the Tv.
We enjoyed her company and will look forward to her coming to see us again.

"We thought the service we got from Emily at Barking Mad was very professional - the information we received on Inca prior to our having her was very precise and made our experience all the better. It was good to know she was at the end of the phone especially as this was our first time. Inca was a pleasure to have and as advised needed lots of love and attention which we certainly gave her. We look forward to the next time to host again. Many thanks."

"Lulu has just gone home after seventeen nights with me. This is the longest stay I've had but it wasn't too long. She is a delightful, easy dog to look after who quickly makes herself at home.
This is the third time she's been to me and I look forward to her next visit."
Brenda - 4th Oct, 2016
"I think Barking Mad is such a lovely idea as the dogs can visit families a bit of a holiday whilst their owners have a holiday too.
We recently enjoyed a visit from a beautiful dog Fozzie he settled into our home quite happily and we enjoyed him too.
Animals need to feel secure with no worries and fitting into a family environment makes for a happy doggie I think Barking Mad is a very good idea
I will look forward to the next vistor on four legs."
Jackie - 12th Sep, 2016
"I have recently looked after Pip for just over a week and really enjoyed it. I am looking to have a dog myself but want to be 100% sure I am doing the right thing before I take the plunge.
I love that with barking mad you get lots of help and support while looking after someone else's precious dog. If you have a problem or the dog becomes unwell you also know that help is at hand. I found the experience rewarding and it was lovely having Pip stay with us. The problem is we missed him when he was gone...
I would like to continue looking after dogs with barking mad.
Celia - 19th Jul, 2016
"Hugo has just had two weeks holiday with me. As a lively two-year-old Springer he was more of a challenge than I've had before but I loved it, and him. We walked many miles and I managed to loose some weight. An added bonus for me!
I think Hugo enjoyed having my undivided attention and he certainly made the most of it. I always think about how I would like my own dog to feel - happy, secure, content, and loved."

"Hello I love having the dogs it gets me out and about too..I am fairly new to the neighbourhood. And I have met people that I would not have met if I was not hosting. All the dogs I have had since I've been hosting have been very good I love them all. I wish I could have some of the small dogs back I had last year!. Posted by Linda"

"I love being a host we find it encourages us to go out more and explore dog friendly places so we get loads of fresh air and exercise. We have the peace of mind that Barking Mad are on the end of a phone if we need them for any reason and its a great way of having a dog without the costs involved. Also if your lifestyle means you cannot have a dog then this is a great alternative. I would definitely recommend it as all the dogs we have had have been easy to care for and friendly, the hardest part is saying goodbye but because you know they will probably have another holiday before too long you don't get upset you just look forward to their next stay."
Anne and David - 28th Jun, 2016
"Hosting a dog gives us a lot of pleasure and is very rewarding. We have only been hosting dogs for 3 months but we're really enjoying it. It gives you the satisfaction of knowing that each dog has had a lot of love and a good home from home holiday. We treat every dog as if it was ours, taking note of the pet profile guidelines. It is a great help knowing that you have the back-up of Barking Mad should anything untoward happen, which gives us peace of mind. John has been excellent matching us with the dogs we've hosted so far."
Brian and Carole - 8th Apr, 2016
"We have been hosting for 18 months now and have come to know the regular dogs we have. The owners have requested many times that they like them to go back to the same host. We find it rewarding that they make these requests.
Nicola is always very careful to match the host and dog and this shows in the requests she gets.
Keep up the good work. A perfect match makes a happy owner, dog and host.
Barking mad prides itself on this and Nicola and her team work very hard to make this happen.
We have just got another first time little doggy today and we hope that he will want to come back again.
A big thankyou to all the team."
Celia - 6th Apr, 2016
"Archie has just gone home after his second visit. He's the most affectionate little dog I've met. Really loving, kind, and gentle. He can be a bit naughty sometimes but we suit one another well and both thoroughly enjoyed our week."
Gwen - 31st Mar, 2016
"We have just had a second visit from a lovely dog that we first met over last Xmas. Having become very fond of her the first time, it was lovely to see her again. She settled more quickly this visit, and was very relaxed. We really enjoyed our time with her, and look forward to her next visit."
Gwen - 24th Mar, 2016
"We have just had a beautiful golden labrador to share our lives with for the past nine days. He was delightful, really good around other dogs and children, and a joy to be with. I'm looking forward to having him to stay again."
Pam - 18th Mar, 2016
"We have just said goodbye to our latest doggy client and thoroughly enjoyed having him here.
He settled in straight away, was friendly and playful. We never imagined choosing this breed ourselves but he's now a very firm favourite and today the house seems empty without him. Hope to look after him again sometime."
Gwen - 14th Mar, 2016
"I enjoy doing the best I can to make sure that my doggy guest feels relaxed, cared for and loved whilst they're away from home. This is what I would want for my own dog, when I have to go away on holiday, so I find it very rewarding to provide this for other people and their dogs."
Jenny - 8th Feb, 2016
"For me, the best part of being a Barking Mad host is getting to know all the different doggie personalities and making friendships with them, particularly when my new houseguest could be feeling a little bit homesick."
Margaret & Stan - 26th Jan, 2016
"We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting a lot of Barking Mad dogs over the last seven years. We have always had terrific support from Brad and team and prior to that from Chris and Alex. In all that time we have only needed help once during a visit, for minor veterinary attention, and that was dealt with very quickly and efficiently. I think this is because the dogs are well matched to their hosts (and the hosts own dogs!) in the first place. We also use Barking Mad for our own dogs holidays."
Adam - 22nd Jan, 2016
"When we moved to Dundee we both missed not having a dog in our lives. Being a host for Barking Mad gave us the opportunity to have that again, even though giving them back at the end is always hard.
It allowed us to see how well having a dog would fit into our lives in a full time situation, and directly influenced our decision to get our own. Now we look forward to hosting other dogs for Angus to play with.
As hosts, the support you receive from Brad is amazing and the detail he goes into to facilitate yours and the dogs well being is incredible.
I would thoroughly recommend anyone who wants to have a visitor now and again, someone who misses the company of the dog but has commitments and everybody who wants a dog but is not sure if it will work to become a host with Barking Mad, you won't regret it!"
Lorna - 22nd Jan, 2016
"I have been a host for several years, I started with Barking Mad as I wanted to have a dog but visiting family in the south made it impractical, so when I am home I have a dog, I have had a great variety of dogs from a little Jack Russell to a huge mountain dog. Barking mad is great because they match dogs with their hosts in all the years of hosting I have never had a dog that I would not have again. Hosting dogs means I go out everyday, I talk to many people and share doggie stories."
Ed and Barbara - 22nd Jan, 2016
"Having a four-legged lodger for a few days is always a pleasure. Still getting over the loss of our own dog but nothing cheers you up more than another wagging tail around the house. Great support from Brad and his team. If only he could do something about this awful Scottish weather."
Kate & Graham - 20th Jan, 2016
"We live in Shirley and have local parks, woods and fields nearby. Whatever the weather we love taking the dogs out and about. They have joined us for barbecues, street parties and made visits to a local elderly care home. Our grandchildren have learned to overcome their fear of dogs by meeting our 'guests'.Having a dog keeps us fit and healthy too. Our garden is large and well fenced so the dogs can enjoy chasing squirrels!
We would love to have a dog of our own but with working full-time until recently and travelling it never seemed the right time. Having dogs for Barking Mad has 'filled the need'. We have had so many dogs to stay (and everyone a pleasure) and one in particular has come twice a year since 2008.
Tina organises things so well - she 'matches' the right dog to the right host - so everyone is happy ( most of all the dog!)"
Susan - 20th Jan, 2016
"I love being a host for dogs with Barking Mad, and enjoy meeting the different visiting dogs, and getting to know each ones individual personality."
Sandra & Terry - 19th Jan, 2016
"We love being hosts to barking mad, Terry is around most of the day, and I work 4 days a week, so we can have doggies almost all the time other than we are on our hols !!, we already have our fav’s Bruno, Bentley, Darcy , Biscuit, Ben the boxer & Gunner, and Tina will try her up most so we can have them on repeat hols, it means a lot to us as we love looking after all the little & big ones, and they all have there own little characters, we have photos of all the dogs we have had since July last year, and look forward to seeing them all again this year, and miss them when they go home, It’s a pleasure to look after doggies on there hols, & and its filled a gap since loosing a couple of our own pets last year,"
Jenny, John and Jean - 15th Jan, 2016
"Being an animal lover - I love working with Barking Mad and being a host for them. I especially like having their beautiful doggies to stay. The doggies all have their own very different characters and we have some good times filled with really good fun and laughs with the doggies that stay with us.
We all really enjoy having the pets and get out and about and sometimes on the odd occasion we take them out to other parks and places close to home. Its just like having your own pet!
I do like the events and walks that Tina at Barking Mad arranges. Its a chance to get out with other hosts and meet them and hear their tales as a host.
I recall a fete we went to lovely sunny day with lots of dogs and we all had such a great time, I recall feeling quite sorry when the fete ended."
Tracey - 15th Jan, 2016
"We have been hosting since last summer and really enjoy the experience and getting to know the personalities of the dogs, even the cheeky ones !
I particularly like walking in the fields and woods nearby with my host dogs as company, and its great exercise too.
Rosina - 15th Jan, 2016
"I first looked after dogs in 2005 & have kept photos of all my visitors. After a break, came back to it a couple of years ago. I have had Millie two years running & cannot wait to greet her again in July, it feels like a special friend spending her holiday with me :)"
Gwen - 8th Jan, 2016
"Sheba, a beautiful Belgian Shepherd dog, was my first experience with 'Barking Mad'. She was adorable, very gentle, and well behaved. She seemed to fall in love with my partner - maybe she saw him as her temporary pack leader - and we both really enjoyed her company over the Christmas period. Having lost my own much loved collie of over 15 years, in October, I had felt lost without a dog to love and care for - so being a 'Barking Mad' host was ideal for me. We're so looking forward to our next doggie guest, and also hope to see Sheba again at some time in the future."
Celia - 8th Jan, 2016
"My last visitor, Pip, was an absolute sweetie. A breed I've not had experience of before and a real delight. She came to me for just a few days before going on to her regular family.
She loved her bed - well actually my bed - and when she was ready to go up at night she would stand at the bottom of the stairs, with one paw on the bottom step, and stare at me until I gave in."
Elaine - 9th Nov, 2015
"We really love our holiday dogs, we like to spoil them, love them, lots of cuddles and make sure they are really happy with us, it's lovely to get the same dog(s) over and over again, they just make themselves at home, and all our dogs know where the 'treat' cupboard is.. We get such a lot of love from them and look forward to them returning."
Sarah and Stan - 9th Nov, 2015
"We adore having new Barking Mad dogs come to stay and love it even more when they return for second and third visits. Its such a pleasure to spend time with these much loved dogs and take them for walks on the beach and around the countryside. We know that when our 'crazy' Collie goes to stay with a Barking Mad host, she will be safe, happy, and much loved."
Liz - 4th Nov, 2015
"We have really enjoyed hosting our last two dogs, Nelson and Finn. As a family we enjoy meeting the new dogs and letting them be a part of our family, albeit only for a while. It is good to know if we have any issues we can just call Emily. We hope to keep hosting even when we get our own dog, (something my husband would never have agreed to until he realized how complete a dog makes a home)."
Debra - 4th Nov, 2015
"We have had a full calendar for October starting with a surprise arrival as another host was sadly taken poorly. Ruby arrived within 40 minutes of the phone call but soon settled in and became a family favorite. Then came Azi, she takes over our lives but ooh how we love her. Lastly we had Jess, an old lurcher who turned into a puppy again when it was walkies time. Each very different but all very lovable."
Diana - 15th Oct, 2015
"I have always had dogs since I was born, having lived on a farm. I cannot remember ever being without dogs. Now I am on my own it is great to have more than one dog.
I am a dog lover, plus Kali my lab just love to go on walks and have company at home.
So we are both very happy bunnies"
Nicky - 13th Oct, 2015
"I started pet sitting nine years ago for Barking Mad.
It is very enjoyable and I love the country and Beach Walks. I have to make an effort to get out with the dogs here.
I have many regulars that come year after year. Each dog has its separate character. With the pairs I love watching the integration between the two dogs.
I work for Ian Carney who pays a lot of attention to detail, doesn't mind going over things with me if I am not sure and always makes sure the dog is familiar with my bungalow before he leaves. He always promptly answers the phone and I feel that I am not alone with the responsibility of someone else's dog.
My life would be empty without Barking Mad.

"Having just said goodbye to our 2nd holiday dog whom we've enjoyed entertaining and looking after. We look forward to our next dog!"
Carole - 21st Sep, 2015
"Nicola and her team always go the extra mile to ensure they are acting in the dogs best interest. If there is any doubt about a dogs health she will always act accordingly so that the owners can rest assured that there dog will get the best possible attention and the owner can relax and enjoy their holiday. We have always welcomed all our lovely dogs for holidays and they enjoy their stay.
Keep up the good work and keep sending these lovely dogs for their holidays that they can enjoy.
A first class team who cares unreservably for the dogs in their care. Posted by Carole"

"We have just enjoyed a lovely long weekend with Roxy the staffy. She is so well behaved we hardly knew she was there but now she has gone our home is a quieter sadder place. This is why we love Barking Mad as each dog gives us a smile!"
Sarah and Stan - 9th Sep, 2015
"We love taking our four legged holiday friends for walks through the fields and to the beach, Its a privilege to get to know the new dogs and become friends and really special when they come back to us for a repeat holiday full of cuddles and fun."
Angela - 21st Aug, 2015
"I have just become a host for Barking Mad and recently cared for my first dog, a lovely old Labrador. He fitted in so well with my own two dogs and I thoroughly enjoyed giving him a special holiday for a few days and am really looking forward to helping out again. It is something very dear to my heart and feel I am being of use to others in providing a safe and welcoming home from home for someone's beloved pet. Plus my own pets also enjoy the company."
Elaine - 21st Aug, 2015
"We love looking after our holiday dogs, they are all really lovely, friendly and usually make themselves at home straight away. We especially like to have the same dog back time after time and they always look really pleased to see us again."

"I love having dogs I was brought up with my father's GunDogs we always had 2 or 3 at a time. A friend saw you advertising for people to look after them while a way on holiday or just for a week- end. So I did just that. I loved having Maisie also Kali loved it as well."
Cynthia - 10th Aug, 2015
"My Barking Mad dogs, many of whom come back again and again, light up my life. They are all different, with different hopes and needs, and getting to know them and earn their trust and affection is pure joy. They go everywhere with me, visiting friends, shopping, and of course on lots of nice healthy walks, good for me as well as them. Total strangers have become friends, stopping me in the street with "What's this one's name, then?" - or even, on between days, with a disappointed "No dog today?"
God bless BM, my area manager Ian, my owners, and first and foremost, all my dogs."
Celia - 4th Aug, 2015
"Rolo has just gone home after his weekend trial. He passed with flying colours. 10/10 I would say and I'm looking forward to his return towards the end of the week.
Well done Emily - you worked out straight away what sort of dogs are best suited to my situation. Quicker than I did."
Pam & Ray - 21st Jul, 2015
"After a year of being without a dog it was great to have not one but two dogs in the house. To see two little faces greeting us from their crate when we returned home was lovely. They settled in well and Emily made sure we were happy with them. Our grandchildren who live opposite were constantly here playing with them, which they adored. If only we had heard about Barking Mad when we were dog owners and didn't want to use kennels!!!!!!!!"
Filomena - 9th Jul, 2015
"Having Pebbles for a few days was delightful and Finley enjoyed the company. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of dealing with a dog other than my own and understanding her needs.
She seemed extremely happy and made herself at home immediately. All doggie friends on park enjoyed meeting her and she was in her element.
Great fun all round."
Mary - 8th Jul, 2015
"I've often asked myself why on earth anyone would want to be a host for Barking Mad. Belly rubs, staffie, Henry's smelly farts, being first out in pristine snow, pickle's snoring (how the walls vibrate), watching Starsky grow from a gangling four month pup into a well behaved teenager. I can go on and on but my favourite is sleeping on the settee on a hot afternoon having a 'nana nap' with a happy, contented pooch sleeping on my stomach dreaming of rabbits.
In 2014 I looked after 24 different dogs, most of whom returned numerous times. So far this year I've had 18 from little to large to very large (ah yes - Dudley). If I put my foot down and ask for time out to have a holiday myself then I get those puppy dog eyes from Ian (the boss) suggesting that I would love to take a dog with me. I generally succumb and thoroughly enjoy our time together.
Would I recommend being a Barking Mad host to anyone else? Having a boss like Ian who is very keen and hands on makes being a host easier. Should anything crop up he will be straight round to deal with it. I love hosting and would urge those people who are thinking about it to have a go. Where else can you wake up to a pair of soulful eyes, a lolling tongue and a wet nose in your immediate field of vision - that's enough about the old man!
Hi you folks at head office. I have spoken to Ian and he says that if you use this can you put it on both his Bath and Dorset sites please. Many thanks. Mary xx"

"Having lost my beloved 15-year-old Westie last July I decided to sign up as a Host with Barking Mad towards the end of the year.
To be honest the first dog that came to me didn't really suit me and I wasn't sure I would do it again. But Emily persuaded me to have another try and I've had several dogs since which have all been delightful. My favourite, Lulu, has just gone home after her third visit.
I know she loves coming to me and I love having her."

"I love looking after all the different types of dogs that come for there holiday with me. I love caring for them as if they where my own. It gets me out and about meeting new people and their dogs too. All the dogs I've had come everywhere with me and even though each dog had a different personality they where all great to have. I look forward to caring for more dogs as well as caring for the same dogs that i have had."
Brian and Carole - 27th May, 2015
"Just coming to the end of another period of hosting a Barking Mad dog on holiday. We really appreciate what Nicola and her team do to connect the right dog to the right family. After having dogs all our lives the time came for us not to be selfish and home another dog in later life. Barking Mad filled that gap and we adore giving a home from home holiday to these special dogs. It's just what we wanted for our dogs rather than kennels.
We feel privileged to be a host for Barking Mad and look forward to giving the next dog with a good home, a good holiday.
Nicola and her team are very professional and give the owners and host families a very professional approach which makes a good holiday for the dogs and a lot of fun and satisfaction for the hosts.
Keep up the good work and can't wait for the next dog to come on holiday. Thank you to you all. Brian and Carole"

"I have loved having the pugs, a breed I've been thinking about getting. Was so nice to have a dog in the house again. All very well behaved and was nice to know Emily was always on call should the need arise. Looking forwards to my next house guest. Sue"

"Lulu, a delightful little Coton de Tulear, was collected from me yesterday after a nine-day stay. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I was sorry to see her go. - Can't wait for her to come back again."
Elaine & Tony - 26th Feb, 2015
"Love looking after our holiday dogs. It's a brilliant, well run company, with people who really do care about the dogs, I would highly recommend to would be hosts or dog owners who can rest assured their babies will be well looked after."
Liz - 25th Feb, 2015
"Really enjoyed having Hamish. Appreciated the support, from Emily, with the walking issue and the fact I could call if any issues.
Next dog please.
Hayley - 25th Feb, 2015
"Me and my family love being a part of the Barking mad team! It makes me feel happy knowing the dog isnt in kennels and instead having a fun time in the our home. Its also great for my own two dogs, it gives them the chance to make new friends and socialise with other dogs all shapes and sizes!"
VLG - 8th Jan, 2015
"I recently hosted my first little visitors from Barking Mad. I was slightly nervous having 3 at once, but I need not have been concerned, Emily was very good with lots of info about what I needed to do.
They very quickly settled in and I really enjoyed having their companionship. I loved taking them out each day and watching them play with their toys."
Shirley - 1st Dec, 2014
"It's now twelve years since I first asked Barking Mad to look after our lovely Boxer Amber.Later,we became hosts and since Amber died,Barking Mad has helped to fulfill our enjoyment of canine companionship with dogs of many different breeds and temperament.
It is lovely when we have repeat visitors,to know that their owners are just as pleased with the Barking Mad service and care of their cherished dogs as I was with Amber."

"We love the opportunity of hosting dogs as we no longer have of our own. This is a great way of having a dog around the house without the commitment of owning a dog."
Liz - 30th Sep, 2014
"My family and I love being hosts as it gives us the chance to meet lots of different dogs and get to know them.
The house feels empty once the dog has gone but we really enjoy giving the dogs a holiday and the owners piece of mind that this member of their family is being cared for safely and for a few days is a part of our family.
It is always good to know that Emily is on the end of the phone for support and the clear guidelines from the owners let us know what the dog enjoys and what their routines are."
Bruan and Carole - 22nd Sep, 2014
"We have just had our first dog on holiday and jess was a pleasure to have. We have always had dogs but lost our last one a year ago. It was a hard decision not to have another, but our age is against commiting to owning another. We saw a local advert for hosts and Nicola from barking mad made the whole process so easy.
Its the best decision we could have made and cant wait for our next doggy to come for a holiday. They make the house a home again. We love it. Thanks Nicola."
Monica - 28th Aug, 2014
"I lost my dog after 15 yrs together , so Barking Mad is ideal for me, I so enjoy having my doggy visitors, every one of them have their own characteristics, which is so nice to discover, whether they like playing ball, or tug of war with one of their toys, and I enjoy our walks as much as they do as well. "How does one sum up being a Barking Mad host? Fun, good loving company, enjoyable healthy exercise and sociable walks when holiday dogs are here. When they are not, then time alone to relax, visit friends, have days out, holidays etc, but soon something is missing. You can't beat doggy company! So I look forward to my next 4 legged holiday guest.
When they arrive I read their notes (what to feed, when to walk, favourite games) all the information I need to make them feel at home. Together we enjoy their holiday and I help them write a holiday post card at the end of their stay!
Life couldn't be better, especially when they come again and their body language, eyes and tail all say 'great to be back, let's have more fun.' Penny the Patterdale, Ellie the Collie, Riley and Alfie thank you for coming into my life. I'm sure you are the first of many more holiday makers who I'll enjoy welcoming into this holiday home for dogs.
When my 16 year old Bonnie went to doggie heaven recently I couldn't decide whether or not to get another dog. There were advantages on both sides, so I got in touch with Barking Mad and with help from Nicola I became a holiday home for dogs. It's great fun, varied, flexible and rewarding; The benefits of having a dog whenever you want, without being tied all the time.
Thank you Barking Mad for enhancing my life.

"I have always owned animals but current circumstances don't allow me to commit full time to the care of a pet. I missed so much not having one around, saw the advert for Barking Mad and Barking Mad took me on. It is the perfect solution! I have had the privilege of looking after some wonderful dogs, enjoying walks and cuddles with my little friends. Now I always have a doggie to look forward to, some of them stay with me regularly, which is especially fun. Any drawbacks? - having to return my little friends at the end of their holiday!
Becoming a Barking Mad Host is one of the best decisions I have ever made!!"
Mavis - 30th Jun, 2014
"I have been hosting for Barking Mad for almost six years now, and have so much enjoyed the company of some beautiful dogs of many breeds. I didn't want to get another dog of my own, so this was a perfect solution to have the opportunity of having a lovely dog for company, walks and fun, and yet be free to go away whenever I chose. As time goes by, certain dogs return for repeated holidays, which proves that a happy dog means a happy owner who entrusts their much loved pet to you. Barking Mad is a well structured company, and it is always good to know that 24hr support is on hand if ever needed."
Bernie & Susie - 24th Jun, 2014
"Although new to Barking Mad its been one of the best things we have done living on a small farm we have space and plenty of local walks to offer our wonderful friends who have stayed with us. each one is missed and we long for their return.
We have set up a gallery of our new friends and find great pleasure looking at the moments they have shared with us."
Niccola - 4th Jun, 2014
"I can honestly say that being a host for barking mad has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. It has helped me physically, emotionally and financially. After losing my own dearly loved Jack Russell I decided I couldn't have another dog to go through the pain of losing it again. Then along came Barking Mad, it must be nearly 7 years ago now and I've never looked back. All the dogs are such a pleasure and a joy to care for. You love them like they are your own and yes, you miss them when they go home but you know there will be another little one on its way to fill the space very soon . The best thing is that they do all come back regularly so your home really does become a home from home, it is wonderful when they come in and you know they are as happy to see you again as you are to see them. It really is the best thing, everything is in place to ensure you have 24hr help and support if necessary. You can specify what type or size of dog you prefer and also specify when you are available. Basically if you're happy the dog is happy and vice versa."
Karen - 27th May, 2014
"This has been my first week as a host of Barking Mad and I/we are loving
it! My first dog guest was Maisie a bearded collie cross. She stayed with us
for the weekend and was such a pleasure to look after. We had lots of fun at
the beaches and parks. We then had lovely little Malcolm a jack Russell cross.
He was very excitable but settled very quickly. He loved playing in the back garden and on
our walks where he came across rabbits, horses and even hens. We are looking
forward to getting gorgeous Bertie very soon. The house seems strange when we
don't have a doggy guest now.
Thanks again, Brad.
Karen, Brian, Nico and Dylan."
Barbara & Peter - 23rd May, 2014
"Our "visitors" have become part of our family over the years. They are as different as our children, and, just like our kids, we love them to bits. Nicola has proved to be a good friend as well as a wonderful "boss". Of course, we do spoil our dogs but they are on their holiday!"
Bev & Ellie - 15th May, 2014
"We love the flexibilty of having different dogs to look after, and we have a few regulars now, especially over half term and school holidays, they bring such fun into the house, with their own individual personalities, we shower them with love and affection (as would their owners) and get very attached - but we know they have to go home, till the next time..."
Cid - 15th May, 2014
"There are so many reasons to love having dogs come to stay with us..... we love having a variety of sizes and breeds and personalities, there's always something to delight us! My boys love having dogs around to play with, and they don't get bored with walking them or feeding them because there's always something different. We get such fantastic characters come and stay with us, they get us out and about, they fill the house with wonderful dogginess. If there's a downside, it's the sadness when they go back home..... until our next doggy friend comes to stay, that is!"

"I enquired about being a host following my friends' dog being on a 'Barking Mad' holiday. As soon as I met Tina I decided that I would like to become a host, because I was impressed by her friendly professionalism and her genuine love of meeting the needs of dogs and their owners. I have been very well matched with some delightful canine companions! I look forward to the regulars and to meeting new dogs. I have not had any problems as such, but appreciate the speed of response and action from Tina, Colin and Carol-Ann when I have needed information or help with something. I might also add that that Tina, Colin and Carol-Ann are as lovely as the dogs they bring!"
Mick and Shirley - 22nd Apr, 2014
"When we retired, we considered getting a dog of our own. We'd had lots of dogs whilst the children were young but it had been a few years since our last one had died. However, we planned to travel so thought perhaps it wasn't a sensible idea. Then one day, Shirley overheard a conversation about Barking Mad.....and the rest is history! Tina was brilliant - her passion and love for the animals was obvious and we warmed to her straight away. Very soon after, Charlotte, a chocolate Labrador, came to stay with us for 2 weeks. Charlotte adopted us and gave us all her love, attention and affection. The walks, the fresh air, the laughter we had with her were excellent. We said "goodbye" and looked forward to our next dog. Since 2011, when we became hosts, we've had lots of different dogs and return visits from a number of them. It's great getting to know their personalities and learning about them. Tina is always available to consult if there are any difficulties. If anyone is considering becoming a host, we would strongly recommend it. We've never regretted it for one moment! We've just returned from 9 weeks travelling and are desperate to meet our next four legged house guest!"
Karen and Paul - 17th Apr, 2014
"A house isn't a home without a dog in it. Our labrador, Hero loves to have a friend for a couple weeks - they have lots of fun running and playing together, then Hero gets a rest before the next doggy visitor arrives. There's something very special about a wagging tail, and a doggy greeting! We're very pleased we found Barking Mad and treat all our visitors as we would expect Hero to be treated - with love and respect."
Helen - 17th Apr, 2014
"My family used Barking Mad initially for our own dog Sally. She was an old labrador and I never wanted her to be put in kennels when we went on holiday. Tina at Barking Mad came out and totally put our minds at ease. We were shown various hosts, their gardens and all Sally's needs were taken care of. This made us feel so relaxed going on holiday knowing Sally was in the best hands, literally home from home care. She was, most of the time, homed with the same family which was even more reassuring! Sally did take poorly when we were on holiday once and we were up-dated daily by Tina and Barking Mad took extremely good care of her, I will never forget them for that. When Sally passed away a few years ago we knew we didn't want to get another dog and decided on being a host family. It really is the best of both worlds. My 12 year old son particularly loves dogs coming to stay and the love we get from them. We've had all sorts of different dogs and characters. However, as we are busy during school holidays etc, we can select when we would like to take dogs. We have the freedom now and it's so much fun. The great thing is we know we have the back up and support from Tina which is fantastic. If things sometimes don't work out Tina is there to help and even take a dog should we be unable to look after it (which is a very rare occurrence as Tina is excellent at selecting the right dog for the right host). We take lots of photographs for the owners which Tina emails to them, should they wish, on holiday. We also write a little postcard for the families so they know what their pet has been up to while they have been away. It really is a fantastic company and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. If you are wanting company from a dog but without the full time commitment then look no further than Barking Mad. Go on, give it a try.......!"
Sue and Paul - 17th Apr, 2014
"We became hosts for Barking Mad, thinking it would be good to have a dog occasionally and the exercise would be good for us, being retired we need to keep going!!
Tina impressed us immediately..she really works hard at matching the dogs to the people. We love dogs that are good fun on their walks, but behave in the house (who doesn't?) and we have had a range of young and old, big and small and lots and lots of Labradors. If there has been a problem e.g. The dog needs the vet to check something, Tina, Colin or Carol Ann arrive and take the animal to the vet. We had one dog who obviously wasn't happy, and frankly was making us unhappy, perhaps pining for its owner, and Tina took it and looked after it herself. So we never have to worry that we are stuck with an animal that we don't get on with.
Tina has become a good friend, and her team of Colin and Carol Ann are so professional and caring with the animals it is a pleasure to 'do business' with them.
If you are thinking of being a host, do try it...you have a lot of fun, I enjoy the caring for some of the older ones as well as running round with the young ones, without the responsibility of having your own animal. Posted by Sue and Paul Allcroft"

"Due to health issues I am unable to have a dog of my own. Being a host for barking mad means I can have the company and pleasure of a dog, for a period of time with out the resposibility and cost of owning a dog myself. It is nice to know that as a host I can enable owners to have a break safe in the knowledge that their dog is being cared for by someone whose aim it is to give the dog a holiday in a friendly loving enviorment."

"I have been a host for nearly 9 years with my husband and now I am on my own. It is an absolute absolute pleasure to have my little dogs come to stay! I have regular ones and find it a privilege to be trusted with someones pet. They are my friends and it gives me something to focus on meet other dog lovers as well.

"My husband and I thoroughly enjoy being hosts for dogs. Faye is great and runs a valuable service. Every dog we have has it's own wee personality and we grow to love them more and more every day. They are like little rays of sunshine in our home. We are so happy we decided to be hosts. We love it."

"It is a real pleasure for us to look after so many varied dogs and hopefully give them a great time in a caring way close to their home life.Have done this now for over 3 years with nothing but positive experiences and would fully recommend being a host."

"We are the lucky ones that get to look after your lovely dogs my family and i enjoy it because we get to meet so many different characters and they are all individual and whilst they are with us they are treated as part of our family. We love dogs but because of work commitments we can only host during the school holidays so we are always looking forward to our new guest arriving and we hope to be part of Barking Mad for a very long time."
Hi, my name is Nicola and I am now in my fourth year covering the Southport, West Lancashire and North Merseyside area. I have four staff members who all live locally. Sarah lives in Halsall and Joanne and Niccola live in Burscough. I’m very proud to be part of such a professional, friendly, caring and experienced team who are undoubtedly dog lovers. They literally are all Barking Mad!
I live in Leyland (which is just a stone throw away from Tarleton and Mawdesley at the beginning of my territory) with my husband Bri, two teenage children Jordan and Travis, rescue staffy cross Shelly, a couple of free range chickens Mildred and Jess, and the most recent addition is a family of four guinea pigs we rehomed from Freshfields; Sully, Belle, Nala and Boo. Shelly was from the RSPCA in Preston where I briefly became a volunteer and raised money for the centre by running a half marathon. I still find it hard not to include our beautiful cross Springer Casey too, who went to Rainbow Bridge just before Christmas. Ooh I almost forgot the goldfish we brought here from our last home in Belgium!
Prior to taking over the franchise, I had many interesting jobs. I vowed I’d never work in an office and started my working life in an accounts office, followed by an assurance company and then I was a civil servant for several years. I then trained as a primary school teacher which came in very useful when I met my husband and travelled with him in his army career. I’ve been back in England six years and taught in many primary schools until 2013. My favourite job (before this one of course) was a holiday rep working in Portugal and then Tenerife making sure people had a great holiday. Now I’m devoted to ensuring dogs have happy holidays too with fabulous loving host families.

I have used barking mad on two occasions to arrange a sitter for our dog Alfie. He is a Westie and on both occasions Alfie has gone to the same family. By using barking mad we have been able to enjoy our holidays without worrying about Alfie and when we return Alfie fits into his own routine without any setbacks because the family keep him to the routine that he is used to. I would not hesitate to recommend barking mad to other families if they required a sitter for their dog.
Big thank you to Sue and Mark who look after Alfie for us.
We have been using barking mad to look after both our dogs for a few years now. We have always found them to be very professional and our dogs love going to their host family who give them lots of walks and cuddles
Couldn't recommend them more highly, Nicola is great and all her staff genuinely care about the dogs. We wouldn't use anyone else
Holly has been on two stays now and i have been really pleased with the care and understanding that your team and hosts have shown to look after her complex needs. She has returned and settled back home well on both occasions, thank you.i hope her latest host will be able to cope with her again in the future to allow me to go and see my grandchildren
Oscar has just turned 3 and he has holidayed with you 5 times . If I hadn't of find you guys my holiday would not be as enjoyable . I cannot recommend you enough and everything you do .
Another lovely holiday for Cody, just a long weekend this time. He loves to stay with Carol and Michael, and it is a comfort to know he will be cared for and nurtured by hosts that he knows. His postcard tells me what he has been doing but I think if he could talk he would be full of happy tales to tell his Mum.
Thank you Nicola for arranging for Cody to stay with Carol and Michael and a special thank you to Carol and Michael for looking after Cody so well
So pleased we have found Barking Mad Max our boxer loves his hollidays. Good to know he is well looked after he is returns a very happy dog. Thank you Nicola and your team don't know what we would do without you.
Once again our beloved Maisie has returned from her holidays with Greg and Glenda a very happy pooch. Knowing that she is loved and cared for whilst we are away enables us to have stress free holiday. Thank you all.
Denise and Dave Scott
Five star service again. Thank you to Nicola and Joanne for your efficiency and friendliness. My Westie Cody has had another lovely holiday. I tell him he is going on holiday to Auntie Carol and Uncle Michael and his tail wags happily. Great...... lots of cuddles, love and play......
He returned home healthy and relaxed, such a comfort to know he will be so well looked after by a family who love and understand dogs.
Thank you Carol and Michael for giving Cody a lovely time.
PS Cody sends his love and kisses. X
It is so nice to know that when I leave Bobby he is looked after as part of a family. He always comes home looking happy and well cared for. The photographs are nice to have as well.
Our older Lab has just come back from another little holiday with Angela, one of the Barking Mad hosts. He always returns happy and calm, as does our other dog when she goes to a host family. We have complete confidence in the hosts, as they are all experienced dog-owners and know exactly what our dogs need.
We are so pleased that Barking Mad is there for us, Nicola and her team are fantastic and so very helpful, even when we've needed short-notice stays. Thanks again!
Once again our beloved dog Maisie returned from her holiday with Glenda and Greg happy and contented. We can enjoy our holiday knowing that she is given the same love attention and care that she gets at home. Our grateful thanks to Glenda, and Greg for making Maisie so welcome and to Nicola and staff for providing an excellent service.
Again Cody has returned home happy and relaxed. His host family take such good care of him. He has had more interesting walks, even been on a train for the first time, and has enjoyed lots of playtime.
I know I can relax on holiday when he is being so well looked after. Many thanks to Nicola and her team, but specially to Carol, Michael and Hannah for giving my precious fluffy bum such a good holiday. He is looking forward to seeing you again sometime soon.
Many thanks to Niccola and Steve for taking great care of Angel and Charlie, its lovely to have them home again knowing they have been loved and enjoyed a holiday too.
Sacha (my little Westie)stayed with Ted and Dee for 3 weeks, while I had a holiday following an operation. I was worried that this was a long time to leave my little baby. However, I needn't have worried whatsoever. Sacha had a fabulous time and came back very healthy, full of energy and Ted had taught her how to come downstairs on her own (I had been unable to train her following an operation on my leg). I am absolutely delighted with the service and the obvious love and care Sacha received while she was on her holiday. I highly recommend Barking Mad and will have no problems leaving Sacha with Ted and Dee in the future.
Once again, one of our dogs has really enjoyed his holiday with Barking Mad. We never worry when our dogs are with the Barking Mad hosts, as they always come back happy, healthy and relaxed.
Nicola and the team do such a good job, and we feel that they really know and understand our dogs' needs. We love the pictures we receive and it's great to be able to see our dogs in their holiday homes.
Thanks Barking Mad!
Our old dog, Reuben has always been an important member of our family. In the last 12 months our two children got married. Our latest trip was to welcome our first grandchild.
Nicola and her team have made it possible for Dave and me to enjoy the celebrations. First Tina and Des and, latterly, the wonderful Aunty Ruth, have given him relaxing and obviously fun-filled holidays.
I am so happy that Barking Mad are a part of our family now too!
I heartily recommend them!
Many thanks again to John and Helen for looking after Mr Jonty this Christmas. He always returns home happy and relaxed.
Best wishes for 2016 to all at Barking Mad
Ruby was extremely well looked after over Christmas by Debra & Joe. Nicola kept us informed and sent us photos so we were not worried about her whilst we were away. She even sent a video that Debra had taken of her opening Christmas presents.
Barking Mad gives you peace of mind and I am constantly recommending them to dog owners I meet!
Thanks to Nicola & her team.
It's reassuring to know your best friend is being looked after whilst away on holiday, I love receiving updates and pictures of my dog playing on the beach or on walks having fun. She always comes back off her stays healthy and very happy.
Thanks for sorting out Sam's holiday at such short notice. As usual he came back happy after having had a lovely with the host family.
Having received a photo and video of Tess I knew she was settled and happy. Thanks Sue and Mark for taking such good care of her whilst she was with you.
This was the second time that Tess visited and she came back very happy, not at all put out by her change of routine. If she could talk I'm sure she would be asking me when my next holiday is going to be. She will be keeping her paws crossed that she sees Sue and Mark again.
Once again our beloved dog returned from her holidays happy and relaxed. She has a fabulous time with her carers and the photos sent to us and two at the beginning of her stay show how happy she is. A real home from home enabling us to enjoy our holiday with complete peace of mind knowing that Maisie will be well loved and cared for
As you know Dora has recently been on holiday in Halsall. She seemed to be very happy and cared for.
Please let her holiday family know everything is ok and if you would thank them very much and wish them a very Merry Christmas.
I hope you have a good Christmas and thank you
Poppy stayed overnight while we were at our daughter's wedding. She was happy coming home but not distressed in any way - she'd obviously had a great time! It was so good to know that she was being well cared for.
The individuals (names gone, sorry!) who visited us first and then collected and returned Poppy were friendly and professional.
Azi has just enjoyed another Barking Mad holiday with Debra and family. She was very excited to see Nicola when she came to collect her and couldn't wait to jump in the car which was very reassuring. On the run up to our holiday I kept thinking I had forgot something, I ran through everything in my mind and realised what it was. I had forgot to worry about Azi!
Thank you Nicola for arranging again.
Coco came back from her little holiday. She was calm and happy. Thank you
Pippin has returned from her stay with Barking Mad in great form. She looks well and is happy.
Nicola chose a host that was well suited to Pippin and what we as owners expect, this careful placing means we are happy and the comments we received from the host includes their wish to have Pippin again.
We are very grateful to Nicola.
When Dora stayed with a family we enjoyed receiving photos of her. She was picked up on time and dropped off. She seemed very happy. Which helps me when I have to leave her again.
Ollie had a settled time at Barking Mad and came home happy. It was lovely to have the pictures of him in his hosts home and regular updates. The service provided was excellent. Thank you.
We were so sad to hear of the passing of Barbara as our Lhasa Apso Dolly, loved going to spend time with Peter and Barbara and they had become great friends. She always returned happy and healthy and full of life and her post card antics were such fun to read and reassuring that she was in such good hands whilst we were away.
Nicola and Steve have looked after Dolly before and Dolly has made more great friends with them.
Thank you Barking Mad for the service you provide and the peace of mind we have whilst she is in your care.
I always recommend Barking Mad. Posted by Dianne
Yet again Ruby was brilliantly cared for whilst I was away in Australia by a lovely couple Dave & Sue. They love her just as much as we do I think! Thanks Nicola for your caring and efficient manner.
Barking Mad were recommended by a friend and they didn't disappoint. I was a bit nervous about leaving Maggie with people I didn't know but Nicola immediately put my mind at ease. Maggie had a wonderful time with Glenda and Greg. I can't thank them enough for how welcoming they were. Maggie clearly was treated as their own. The photos and emails we received were a true blessing. It was lovely for my children to see first hand how happy Maggie was on her holiday. I will definitely be using Barking Mad again.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to Nicola. What an amazing lady, she was attentive all the way through from the first phonecall to her visiting the house. She was very thorough on Bonnie's likes and dislikes and the poor woman spent 2 hours with us(Husband talks to much). We were so dubious about Bonnie going to someone we didnt even know, she re-assured us that all the hosts were vetted and had dogs before. We also didnt like the fact that we would not meet the host...Anyway we succumbed, Bonnie went away for the weekend, We did ask that she went to someone with no dogs to start with, she went to Aunty Ruths, We got photos, messages and even a postcard on the great time she had. Thank you Aunty Ruth for having our little girl and making sure she was safe, and letting her sleep on your bed! and thank you to Nicola. We have already booked her in for her next holiday, we feel better that she will be safe hands. Thanks again.
As usual, Tia has been returned to us happy and refreshed after her little break away, which in turn makes us happy in the knowledge that she is extremely well looked after and cared for. We cant recommend barking mad enough, a great organisation for dogs and owners alike. Thanks again.
We are very lucky to have found a couple who really like our dog Esme (Airedale terrier), and this gives us great peace of mind when we're away. Also Nicola Sheard, our local Barking Mad agent, is always very accommodating with our sometimes 'last minute' bookings.
Barking mad holidays is fabulous . Appreciated Oscar being so looked after with wonderful people . Thanks a million .
This was the first time we had left our dogs with Barking Mad and we were very impressed. Starting with the text we received the day before our trip confirming arrangements for Dylan and Daisy's 'holiday'. When they arrived at their holiday home we received photos showing how they had settled in, which was reassuring as we were then able to relax and enjoy our own holiday. When they brought the dogs home they brought a postcard telling us what they had been doing while they were away which was interesting. The staff, the two Nicola's, we're both excellent. They are obviously dog lovers and showed understanding and patience in dealing with the dogs, and owners ! They took a lot of time initially getting to know the dogs and getting a full history about them. When Nicola came to collected the dogs and bring them home she didn't rush so that it was a nice calm experience. We would also like to thank Janet and Robert for looking after them so well and hopefully they can come back and see you again soon. We will definitely be using Barking Mad again. Posted by Sheila
Dear Nicola and Debie(who looked after Roxy)
Roxy came back happy in good condition and no hang ups. Thanks to Debie and her family for taking care of her and to Barking Mad for their care and welfare.
Once again job well do
Derek and Linda Reece
We've never needed dog sitters for Max and Dylan before and Barking Mad were recommended by a friend. I'm now more than happy to be the one to recommend Barking Mad. It was great to get updates and know they were settling in well and because they take the time to find out about the dogs, I was able to relax and enjoy the weekend away! Thank you
Process straightforward and painless, Daisy doing a night away to get used to the hosts before pending a month on holiday. Would recommend to friends.

We are so happy with the service provided that we are booking her another holiday for next year.
We have been using Barking Mad since we got Maisie 8 years ago. Since Nicola took over Maisie has stayed with Glenda and Greg, she always comes home happy and from her postcards she has obviously had a good time. We can thoroughly enjoy our holidays knowing that Maisie is in good hands, with both Nicola her team and her foster parents.
I was anxious about Bear's first Barking Mad holiday but needn't have worried at all. Nicola put my mind at ease and Bear had a lovely time on his little break and was delivered home happy, safe and well a couple of days later. It was lovely to get pictures of him during his stay with Christine and she had prepared a lovely postcard to tell us what they had been up to. I've already booked Bear's next Barking Mad hol!
Penny had another fantastic holiday with Aunty Ruth. I have seen her holiday photos and read her post card! We enjoy our holiday more because we know Penny is being well looked after and enjoying herself in her second home.
Shannon and her partner recently looked after my dog Bonnie for 5 days while I was away for my brother's wedding. I was super nervous about leaving Bonnie (she is only 10 months old and had never been away from us before even for a night). However, the care she received from Shannon was second to none. Bonnie came home happy, healthy, well behaved and I honestly think a little bit gutted to be back from her holiday!! Sincere thanks to Shannon for looking after her so well. I would be happy to leave Bonnie in your care again next time we visit my brother and his family xxxx thanks to Nicola also for the lovely photos we received of Bonnie on our first night away. It helped ease my piece of mind to know she was settling into her temporary home xxxxx
I was very pleased with the service and especially delighted to hear that Hugo was ok and had settled in with Sue and Mark. The photos were an added bonus, such a lovely touch. It really put my mind at rest because as this was Hugo's first time away, I was a little anxious.

The whole process was very smooth and we feel confident about leaving our dogs in the care of Barking Mad again.
Our Beagle always comes back from his breaks with Barking Mad looking healthy and happy. Putting a dog into kennels is like going to prison. Fostered with Barking Mad is like going on holiday. If I was a dog I know which one I'd choose. Posted by Peter Whyment

Here we are again another holiday over, peace of mind is worth its weight in gold and that is what we get with Barking Mad. A very big thank you goes to Nicola, without her care and consideration none of this could happen. Thanks also to Sue and Mark who spoilt our Fozzy to the point that he was not bothered if he came home or not,(catering for the little imp's every whim). Also I must mention Joanne and Niccola for their care and attention in the transport of Fozzy.
Cannot praise all of them highly enough.

I would recommend without hesitation, from the pickup of your pet to delivery back home Barking Mad is the best thing ever!! Nicola Sheard is the most lovely Franchise owner, I appreciate the pictures of Fozzy that she posts tome. The thing anybody who uses Barking Mad has to be aware of is that your pet is in no rush to return home due to the fact they have enjoyed being spoilt rotten. I have used the service on many occasions and have peace of mind leaving my pet in the very good care of the hosts. Hope I can mention the brilliant hosts who looked after fozzy , Sue and Mark you have been fantastic he has come home and thinks he can now get away with murder, you have spoilt him, (love it). Here's to the next holiday.

We've been using Barking Mad for quite a while and we always know that Lacey will also have a good time while we are on holiday, which gives us a goodpeace of mind. Lacey has always been with the same carers (Margaret & Dave) which we like as gives sense of familiarity for Lacey.
Nicola is very nice and professional and communicates well. No bad comments to make really.
Ace seemed to have a great time on his 'holiday', was glad to see everyone when he got back!

Reuben is home from his second holiday with Barking Mad. He had welcomed Joanne like an old friend when she picked him up and clambered up his ramp into her car without any hesitation.
I love the photos and postcard updates.
He is relaxed, happy and probably missing Tina and Des a bit right now.
Thank you everybody at Barking Mad for looking after him so well.

Thanks Nicola for arranging another lovely holiday for Azi. It looks like she had a great time with Debra and family. You know I worry about her before we go on holiday but I relax as soon as I have had the message letting me know she has settled in after arriving at her holiday home. Azi is always happy to jump in the car when a member of your team collects her which is reassuring. I appreciate the service provided by you and Barking Mad.
I found Barking Mad a ideal way to ensure that my BIG challenging rescue dog 'holidays' with a perfect family who will love him as much as we do. We have used Barking Mad on two occasions.
He was picked up and dropped off at a convenient time and he was not fused about what went on.
We got a lovely letter with photos from his holiday family with some snippets of what he got up to.
I do recommend Barking Mad to my family and friends. I am sure I will be using Barking Mad again!

Massive thankyou to Nicola and the team, and to Cassie's family for taking such good care of Patrick during my recent hospital stay. I will have no hesitation in letting Patrick go on future holidays with Barking Mad.

We were so pleased that Dolly had such a great holiday and the peace of mind that she is well looked after is the most important thing to us.
Thank you again Nicola for arranging a lovely Barking Mad holiday for our 20 month old Boxer, Azi. Thess and her family were fabulous hosts for Az. It was lovely to hear about the fab walks and runs she had. It was also nice knowing she had 3 lovely children to cuddle. As you know I was concerned as Az has some anxieties when she sees other dogs especially whilst on her lead but I can honestly say from the time Az was collected I didn't worry about her. I was confident that she would have a nice time and that she would be ok. It is so nice to be able to book a holiday knowing that your precious dog will be well looked after, in a dog friendly family home.

Am so glad that we found out about barking mad!
Our dog Molly has stayed with a few different hosts now and each time she comes back very happy and well looked after. This time she stayed with Aunty Ruth for a week and we really enjoyed reading about all Molly's adventures. We even saw photos and a video.
Molly has quite a few foibles and she can be quite difficult to walk but Aunty Ruth even managed to take her off lead. We cannot thank Nicola and Ruth enough! Anyone who uses barking mad can go away having total confidence that their family pet is really enjoying a holiday of their own.
Toby has just had another excellent holiday with Barking Mad - he made a new friend (Zac) and met a new family
Excellent service all round
this is the second time Tia has stayed with her host family and has always come home happy. We can't thank Tia's host Sue, enough. We can go away & relax knowing she is in place were she gets as much love and attention as she does at home which is very comforting to us and Tia. We look forward to her photographs and especially her postcard telling us what she's been doing on her holiday.
Thanks again to Nicola at Barking Mad & to Sue for all the love & care you give our little lady.
The service was amazing , professional and friendly . My wife and I are going on an important family holiday in late December and we booked our lovely dog Marley to go and stay with a host family . He went for a weekend to see if he would be ok with the host family and it was fantastic. After this weekend it has really put our minds at rest for when we go away in december. He actually enjoyed it , didn't fret at all and when he came back was his normal self . We received daily updates and pictures .
I was able to leave my dog for a whole week without any worries at all, and when she came back you could tell she had been happy!

This service is marvellous, can't beat it.
Our two boys are just back from their fifth visit with Barking Mad. Each visit is well planned and organised and they have stayed with the same host on four of the five visits. This gives us the reassurance that the hosts are getting to know the boys well and equally they get to know their hosts and their homes.
We are no longer anxious when we go away that they're well looked after. We know they are and love the photos and postcard you get from each visit.
On each occasion my boys have come back happy and well cared for and are eager to get into Nicola's car on the next visit!!

It's been a pleasure dealing with Nicola over the last few months, she is working really hard to keep us clients 'happy'. We're obviously very grateful to anyone who will look after Esme, our Airedale, we know she's a handful but her Sitters seemed to like her anyway, phew! Big thank you from Ezzie's family.
We have complete confidence in Nicola and her host families at Barking Mad! Our choc lab Dougie has had fabulous holidays and we have some wonderful photos of him enjoying himself!!
Barking Mad provide a brilliant option for owners who want to go on holiday but hate to leave their dogs behind. Nicola and her caring dog-sitters have given our 2 dogs a holiday of their own on several occasions, and they always come home happy and relaxed. We have absolutely no qualms about leaving them, you get photos and updates and you know they are in really experienced hands. A first-class service!
We love the service jess our dog came home happy and relaxed just what we wanted
Once again we have enjoyed our holidays, safe in the knowledge that Snoop was being well cared for by hosts of Barking Mad. Thank you again to Nicola and her assistant (the other Nicola) for their kind help. I always recommend BM to anyone who mentions getting their dog looked after.

Heidi, our lively cockapoo, returned from her first Barking Mad holiday absolutely exhausted. She was kept well entertained and exercised by her host family as well as their two dogs and other pets. It seems that Nicola managed to find the perfect hosts for our dog. We have no doubt that Heidi will be ecstatic when she returns to them for a week at the end of the month! Thanks - we couldn't be more impressed!
After trying for so long to find decent kennels for my dog Penny to stay while were away on holiday was proving hard. This year I decided to try Barking Mad, all I can say is fantastic !
Penny has come back one happy dog, I thinks she's got the holiday blues missing her hosts and walks on the beach !
delighted with the service, attention to detail and comfort that he is in good hands while we are away.
Many thanks to Nicola and host Roxy really enjoyed her holiday she came home as happy as she went which means so much . I would recommend barking mad to friends.Thank you much.
We were very happy with the excellent service that Nicola provided us. Nicola couldn't have made the pick up and drop off any easier and stress free, and the way Bruce showed his affection for her shows what a caring and supportive service she provides.
Thanks also to Karen and her family for caring for Bruce over the weekend and making his stay as enjoyable as it was.
Excellent service ..nicola is very helpful and friendly...my dog loves his host family and has been with them for several years! He comes home happy and well looked after...i would never use kennels for him..i cant reccomend enough...thank you
Thanks to both Nicola and Niccola for giving Angel and Charlie a good holiday,we were able to relax and recuperate on our sunshine break.
Love the service and attention to detail, knowing they will be well cared for,Many thanks once again,
Our lovely patterdale terrier who was a rescue dog and therefore would never go to kennels has always enjoyed his holidays with Barking Mad!
Many thanks Nicola for the excellent service. It was very important that we could go on holiday and be reassurred that Meg and Mabel were cared for just as we would care for them. They returned happy and well and we felt that they had been very much cared for.
We were very impressed by the assessment of each dog, taking into consideration each personality and particular likes and dislikes. It was reassurring that each trait was considered carefully and the dogs were matched up to a particular family. In our case David and Margaret were perfect in order to devote the time and love to our dogs.
What we also liked was that the dogs were collected from home to save us the distress of dropping them off and also to ease the dogs of travelling with Nicola to the host address.
Nicola spent some time with us and the dogs to get to know us. What is also important was that Nicola did not 'rush off' to take the dogs or when she dropped them back off. It was important just to spend 10 minutes giving us the feedback of how the dogs had settled with the host family and also for them to welcome us!
We will use the service again. Thank you Nicola for all your hard work it is appreciated.
Coco always comes home happy and content. Proof that I know she is well looked after. Barking Mad is a service I can trust knowing I can go on holiday without the added of worry of wondering if your beloved pet is being cared for. Thankyou
Thank you so much for looking after Paddy and Max they had a wonderful time. I will definitely use them again and would highly recommend them to lots of my friends x

Ernie was as always looked after brilliantly
I didn't think that I would find somewhere for my 2 shih tszu's to go, whilst I went on holiday after a bad experience with a kennel, but my dogs came back healthy and well cared for which put my mind at ease. I would definitely recommend. Much better than kennels

Being new to barking mad we were a bit apprehensive about leaving Tia, our 12 year old jack russell with a stranger. After our meeting with NIcola we were totally reassured and Tia went to stay with her host, Sue. She was pampered and so well looked after. We were sent pictures and updates which was great. Tia was returned back to us one very happy little dog. We highly reccommend Barking Mad and will be certainly using them again in the future.
We recently left our 2 chocolate labs for 2 weeks to go on holiday. We were a little nervous as we had never left Rosie the 9 month old pup, and Holly had only ever stayed with family before.
We need not have worried, after bring introduced to their hosts for a weekend visit, they both happily went on their way with Nicola without a backward glance!
They returned happy and well looked after and we would certainly use the service again in the future. Thank you. Posted by Lynne Hitchen
Totally recommended Barking Mad! Having looked at several dog sitters Barking Mad was the best option as we had a say in what we wanted for our precious 18 month old Tibetian Terrier, Pippin. Nicola found a host suited to our dog & her lifestyle so it really was a home from home for Pippin.
Our 10 month old boxer, Assie, returned from her mini break looking happy and well. She had a lovely time with Tina and Des and we are happy that she will be having a full 2 weeks with them very soon. We can now enjoy our holiday knowing that Assie is loved and cared for by a lovely couple.
I was very pleased that Nicola took time to get to know Assie before her mini break noting down everything about her and passing the information on to Her hosts.
It was also lovely to receive a card from Tina and Des saying Assie had been good and they were very much looking forward to seeing her again.
Thanks Nicola - great service. I couldn't imagine leaving Assie anywhere else while we go on holiday.
Our 2 chocolate labs have just returned from their first few days away from us and we are feeling confident that they will be fine when we leave them for our real holiday in 10 days.
Holly who is 8 years old has only stayed with family before, and Rosie our 8 month old puppy had never been left at all. They both returned happy and well cared for, and we will be able to enjoy our holiday knowing they are in safe hands and enjoying lots of walks along Crosby beach.
Nicola has been great so far, and we are really happy with the overall service and attention to detail.
Holly even got a birthday card off Nicola last week putting us to shame!

I cannot recommend Barking Mad enough! We left our dog Molly for the first time last week and Nicola made everything so easy. She really got to know Molly beforehand, all her likes, dislikes, funny personality traits and anxieties and matched her to Gill &Colin who looked after her really well & took her for some fantastic runs in the sand dunes. The photos Nicola sent put my mind at ease and Molly came back happy and contented.
We can look forward to our next break now knowing that Molly has a little replacement family. Thank you so much, Nicola, Gill & Colin.
I have used Barking Mad for several years now and my dog Coco (a shih Tzu) has been lucky enough to stay with the same host every time we have been on holiday. I know Coco looks forward to seeing her adoptive family which puts my mind completely at rest. Nicola is fantastic to deal with and goes out of her way to help ensure pick up and drop off fits in with your plans also with the the added bonus of getting updates via your phone to let you know your pooch it truly taken care of. Would highly recommend Barking Mad.
As always, Nicola is an expert at finding just the right family for our very lively dog, even providing a tortoise for his added entertainment! Also, getting a text to reassure me on his first night is an added bonus and excellent customer service.
We can go away and be happy and content knowing Bonnie will also be happy and content when she comes home after her stay with Barking Mad.
A Big thank you to Nicola, Dolly our little princess Lhasa Apso, always makes us feel very guilty about leaving her. Nicola always lets us know that Dolly has settled in well and is ok so we can go away feeling good. She loves her holidays and is her usually entertaining self. When she comes home she is really happy and full of beans. Barbara and Peter and Nicola are her favourites at the moment so BIG thank you for all you do.
This anxious owner could not have been more pleased when Nicola brought back Barney and Oscar after their first experience with another family. But I need not have worried. They'd had a great time and had not given Bernadette and Jason too much grief! Those long beach walks wore them out. Thanks to Nicola!
Hi Nicola. Bekka has returned to us a happy and contented beastie who appears to be missing her short term foster parents! Thanks for making the process transparent and reassuring.
Hi all you pet lovers, just a little note to say never worry when leaving your dog to go on holiday!!Barking Mad has worked wonders for this over protective pet owner. My 11 month puppy spent a few days with his lovely hosts Barbara a Pete he came back spoilt to bits, we did this few days so Fozzy would not feel strange when he visited them for 12 days over New Year. when we were away the lovely Nicola posted pictures and news about how he was getting on, Fozzy returned home and could not have cared less if we cuddled him or not(bit of a blow) he had been so well looked after. he came home one spoilt doggy,.We are going away in march again and have no problems leaving him this time, safe in the knowledge that he has Nicola to transport the little King, who also serenades him to keep him calm!! he then gets all his own way until our return.Thank You Nicola Barbara and Pete
Charlie had a great time with Robert and is still snoozing after all the walking! Will definitely be in touch again, thanks for looking after our boy :)
Thanks to Nicola and Vickie for giving Cody his first holiday. He has been well looked after and came home happy.
I first of all have to thank Nicola for her understanding over my worries about putting my puppy in the hands of a host for 3 days, Fozzy my Shih Tzu had a brilliant time with Barbara and Peter, what a relief it was to have found such brilliant people. From the start to the end of Fozzy's visit was a joy. Fozzy goes again at the end of this month for 12 days and I go with piece of mind. Thank you Nicola Barbara and Peter.

Nicola (plus Aunty Barbara and Uncle Pete!) couldn't have done more to make me feel comfortable and reassured when Shankly (who had been poorly) went to stay with Barking Mad. It's definitely worth every penny to be able to enjoy my holiday knowing that Shankly is in such capable and loving hands. A very professional service, thank you.
Angel and Charlie had a great time, came back very fit!
Thank you to Nicola Sheard, for a first class professional and friendly service. Our elderly poodle, Sanuk was wonderfully looked after and Nicola ensured that his departure and return went smoothly.
Thank you for all you did.
Nicola really went above and beyond to ensure that our blind dog Dexter was matched with a good host and all his extra needs were completely taken into account. This has been our first time using Barking Mad and its the first time we've gone away and felt totally reassured that Dexter would be well looked after. Thanks to both Nicola and the host for taking on the extra work involved in looking after Dexter xx
As a first-timer I am grateful to Nicola for dealing with my anxiety about sending Maggie to stay with 'strangers'. It seems that there really was nothing to worry about. The postcard from Geoff and Ruth says that she settled in very quickly and made herself at home on the sofa, which is lovely to hear!
Thanks to Nicola and all the team at Barking Mad I can go on holiday without worrying if Izzy is ok, the host families always seem so well matched and Izzy comes back relaxed too! Nicola provides a wonderful customer experience I can highly recommend!!
A home from home for Angel and Charlie with lots of love and attention means we can relax and enjoy a holiday and look forward to them coming home happy and content. Many thanks to both Nicola's for looking after them so well.
Great service as usual. Lovely to know that Maisie will be well looked after by people who give her lots of attention. Thanks

Big thank you to Heather who has given us complete peace of mind when Snoop has been in the care of Barking Mad. If it were not for your fantastic service I probably would not have a holiday.
Thank you for looking after Honey & Max so well. They looked healthy and happy on their return. We loved the photo’s of them in the garden and the lovely report card. We hope we can leave them in your capable hands in the future and would certainly recommend you. Formby Aug 2012

Although it’s an extremely busy time at Barking Mad Dog Care, we still managed to register the youngest and oldest dogs we have on the books now for last minute holidays with our lovely host families.
The youngest pictured are Louis the French bulldog and Dojo the Chug who are five months old, and the oldest is Molly the 16 year old Bichon Frise. You can see more of their photos on holiday at https://www.facebook.com/BarkingMadDogCareSouthport
I’d like to also let you all know that the £180.70 you all kindly gave during our event at Tesco Kew in June has been donated with sincere thanks to The Oldies Club. http://www.oldies.org.uk
Sarah on the team used to foster dogs for ‘Oldies’ and knows only too well the good work they do?
Summer is here and I attended the annual Ainsdale Horticultural Show on The Village Green. The sun was out, the band was playing and the atmosphere was great!
I met lots of lovely people interested in being host families , dogs who popped over for a cool drink and their owners who came to say hello.
On the 24th June for the first time we had a 12 hour stint at Tesco Extra at Kew, Southport to show off our recent new logo and we gained lots of interest . We gave away a few hundred Barking Mad ‘Bags For Life, ’ Barking Mad pens and about 100 dog walking helium balloons to children and teens. Biscuit the fluffy dog was with us all day and children enjoyed stroking him and giving him his toy. It was amazing how many people thought he was real at a glance! We unexpectedly raised £180.70 for local animal charities too which was all down to the generosity of the local shoppers. Some of our current lovely host families and customer’s dogs came to say hello too like Ollie pictured with Sarah.
Another shopper brought her mini Chihuahua Gizmo for a cuddle and as you can imagine Gizmo got lots of attention. As a result of a fabulous day we now have another 4 host families on board joining our Barking Mad family!
Much fun was had by all at the RSPCA Fun Day which Sarah attended . The weather was great and we met all creatures great and small from a small pup who wanted to sit with us to a St Bernard.
We were extremely blessed with the weather for Strutt Your Mutt and had a great turnout with all dogs great and small. It was great to join forces with Julie and the Queenscourt Hospice team and we made sure that we had a copius supply of drinking water available for our furry walkers.
Over a hundred dog owners took part and strutted along Ainsdale beach carefully looked after by the marshalls, and Joanne in the team walked with her two dogs Millie and Macey. I grabbed the opportunity to try and raise some extra cash for the Hospice with ‘Guess the amount of dog biscuits in the jar?’ whilst people were registering, getting to know each other and putting on their attire. This alone raised over £50. Queenscourt Hospice are still waiting for all the sponsorship money to come in.
Thank you to everyone for your support for such a local worthy cause!
I’m very excited to announce that Barking Mad Southport are the main sponsors of the event ‘Strutt Your Mutt ‘ taking place on Sunday 9th April at 9.30am starting at Pontins, Ainsdale, Southport. The event is a 5k sponsored walk organised by Queenscourt Hospice and this is the second year it will be taking place. It is a great local cause and will help raise much needed funds.
If you want to join us for a lovely walk with your four legged friend, you can sign up by following the link below:
There will be a prize for the dog that raises the most funds and a fabulous doggy hamper with two runners up prizes. Our team will be out in force on the day so I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Please spread the word to family and friends.
Happy New Year everyone!
Our host families very much enjoyed the company of their visiting dogs over Christmas and New Year. There are a number of photos on my Facebook page-Barking Mad Dog Care (Southport) and a few people have already booked for next Christmas and New Year 2017/18. You can be rest assured that your dogs will have a lovely festive season too as they are welcomed as part of the family.
Due to the success of Barking Mad Southport, West Lancs & North Mersey, BIG news is we have now become VAT registered from the 1st January. Thank you so much to all my existing customers for your continued loyalty, and I’m also extremely pleased that new customers are continuing to register with our first class service. I really have kept prices to a minimum!
We continue this year with our loyalty card and regulars really do benefit from those free days. Keep spreading the word and I look forward to sorting out many more happy dog holidays this year. You really cannot book too soon ;) x
Well a busy month for Christmas Fayres, and Barking Mad were there as always to support the RSPCA at Greenbank High school, Hillside in Southport on 4th December . We now feature an advert in their A4 folder when people adopt animals at the centre as a sponsor ;).
If any of you can spare any blankets for either the RSPCA or Freshfields they are always welcome. They are also in need of specialist foods for those who have dietary requirements. There are also quite a number of dogs in need of a forever home.
December 23rd was personally a sad time for my family as we had to say goodbye to our gorgeous and special 12 year old Casey . Having started her journey in life in Crete and was rescued and brought to Germany where we rehomed her, she has been everywhere with us. She lived in Germany and Belgium and been camping in France and Holland, then finally travelled back to England with us. Such a gentle and loving girl! She is greatly missed as a big part of our family.
October and November 2016
Our fabulous hosts in Southport have found a new dog café that opened in September called ‘The Wagging Tail Café.’ They have enjoyed walking their dogs on holiday and treating them to a bit of dog cake on the menu. They have comfy beds for the dogs, a Halloween event and serve many items from cupcakes, popcorn and ice-cream-see the link below:
http://www.thewaggingtail.co.uk/ Definitely worth a visit!
Another online service for homemade dog biscuit treats is the Doggy Love Bakery in Liverpool . I met these lovely people at the RSPCA fun Dog Show on the 9th October and purchased a couple of bags for my own dogs. Details can be found online or on the banner in the photo below.
I don’t know about you, but here at Barking Mad, we’ve enjoyed the beautiful weather this month which has been very unusual for this time of the year! More lovely walks with our dogs on holiday enjoying the warm sunshine.
This year we are attending the Fun Dog Show at the RSPCA on New Cut Lane in Southport on Sunday 9th October starting at midday till approximately 4pm. This has replaced Paws in the Park at Hesketh Park .The West Lancs dog display team will be there, along with other lovely dog related stalls and fun fundraising activities for both adults and children. Dogs are welcome on a lead. It would be great to see as many of you there as possible to support this great charity which relies on donations.
Wow.. that was a busy one! The busiest summer yet and I’m amazed that there are always last minute enquiries where people have been let down. Fortunately as we have many special host families in the local area, we always have a backup in case of illness or any other unexpected situation. Here’s just a few of our happy dogs on their summer holidays:
It was great to see so many existing customers and host families at Ainsdale Summer Fayre this month. Windy as it was, holding onto our balloons and gazebo, and strategically placing items so they wouldn’t blow away, a great day was had by all. There was so much interest in looking after dogs on holiday, it was great. See you there next year!
Well I’m overwhelmed by the number of host families joining us at Barking Mad Southport, West Lancs and N Mersey. I’ve taken on ten more lovely families since January and this number is growing weekly. One particular amazing couple Samantha and Andrew I met in Southport a few days ago, told me all about an upcoming event called ‘Strutt Your Mutt’ which is a 5k fun sponsored dog walk organised by Queenscourt Hospice at the end of April. It’s particularly close to their heart as Andrew’s mum is receiving help from the Hospice at the moment for his mum who needs care. They are fabulous hosts and Samantha is an amazing artist-examples to follow soon of her amazing pet artwork!
I have decided to donate a £100 to sponsor this great cause and of course it’s doggy related so it would be great if we could have as many Barking Mad people on board as possible to support them.
The date in question is Sunday 24th April at 9.30am. The event starts at Pontins in Ainsdale, Southport and then the event itself is a lovely walk along the beach at Ainsdale for a great local cause. You can register online with the following link or call them on 01704 517420.
More details will follow when you have registered. Sarah (a host and one of my team) and her family with her border collie Cassie have already registered and will definitely be there!
There is a prize too for the dog who raises the most, so what are you waiting for ;)
Happy New Year and then there were 4!
Yes we’re still growing and have taken on another four new lovely host families this month. You may have seen our advert in The Little Black Book which comes out this month annually with The Champion Newspaper. Get booking your holidays now as its gone Barking Mad with bookings for the coming year and my lovely hosts are waiting to look after your lovely dogs ;)
There’ s also four of us now in the Barking Mad staff team-myself, Niccola, Joanne and our new addition Sarah. A big welcome to Sarah!
You can see her in action playing ball in this video!

RSPCA Xmas Fayre
I always support my local RSPCA and enjoy meeting everyone at the stand. I gave lots of 2016 Barking Mad calendars and Barking Mad bags away this year… and spent a lot all for a good cause. It was worth it too as Spot the staffy spent many months in the RSPCA waiting to be rehomed and the lovely Lynn thought our service was perfect for him for her holidays next year-he definitely needed home from home care and was a new addition to her family. Spot settled in a treat with Sue and Mark for his trial sleepover and was lovely.
I also met Kerry at this event where she was selling Aloe Vera products-Forever Living. As well as finding some fabulous products for myself, I learnt that some of the products could also be used on dogs for such things as skin conditions and much more. For more information Kerry can be contacted on 07450014926.
Host Get Together
It was that time of year again for our annual Christmas time host gathering and this year it was held at The Arion at Ainsdale. Host families old and new met for a sandwich platter with crisps and chips and it was lovely to see everyone chatting. As they’re all such special, caring people with their love of dogs in common, there’s always something to talk about and though some had never met before, it was enjoyed by all. Here’s to another successful year and huge, big thanks to them all! CHEERS
Southport College Festive Market
This year I met students as well as staff and other interesting new traders and it was a chance again to spread the word. Our £5000 prize national competition was coming to a close too so there was much interest. Another few new very happy customers on board!
New contacts-Dog Training
I thought it was about time I stopped off to introduce myself at K9 of LC dog Training Academy and what good timing. I passed it many a time on my way home with its landmark of 2 Great Dane stone heads at the entrance. Donna was busy as dogs were arriving ready for a class but when the rush was over, we had a good chat and it was good to learn more about each other’s dog business. Her husband Les is a trainer and other members of their team .As well as holding dog classes on site, Les will come out to your home and do one to one if preferred. Donna took me through to watch the class for a few minutes on the very spacious grassed area and they were all very well behaved. I couldn’t resist making some purchases before my departure; a massive bag of food for my own dogs, some treats and a Frisbee (as I go through them on a weekly basis as I watch them sink in water!)..very handy indeed. I really liked what I saw and what a lovely lady! If you require dog training, please check their website and your first 30mins consultation is FREE. Thanks Donna ;)
Brilliant news and I can’t believe how time has flown! It’s now been two years since I took over the Southport, West Lancs and North Mersey area. Business has literally doubled and I have two part time staff now too. New customers are constantly registering with us and word of mouth is wonderful-thanks to all my lovely loyal customers and hosts. I really haven’t stopped, and Barking Mad is booming! To top it off this year, I received the award for Business Builder 2015 at our annual conference. I feel very blessed that I love my job!
I’ve been very busy out and about meeting some dog groomers this month. Dougie my regular chocolate Labrador on holiday was my motivation for this. His owner Denise was so happy with her local dog groomer that I decided to pay them a visit. Bow Wow Wow is in a wonderful location with extremely friendly, professional staff that welcomed me immediately and gave me a tour. It was a very relaxing atmosphere I felt for the dogs and they have lavender candles too for this purpose. They were busy with their hairdryers and I said hello to the dogs being groomed. I’ve just got a new customer from them too called Ted who recently went on his first Barking Mad sleepover ready for his big holiday.
I’ve added them to my local links so don’t hesitate to pay them a visit. Another groomer I spotted on a roadside board was The Dog House in Burscough. I paid Greg a visit and likewise he gave me a tour of his large grooming shed at the bottom of his garden. His website has some photos of the dogs he’s groomed for your information. If you can recommend any local dog related businesses, please let me know.
Autumn 2014 - The New Team, one year on!
As the business has grown massively over the last year, Niccola (centre) works every alternate weekend and some school holidays, and Joanne (left) works a couple of days during the week.
We really do make a great team!
We now have over 40 lovely host families who look after your dogs in the Southport , West Lancs and North Mersey area which is fantastic!

Everyday at least one more unfortunate creature finds itself with Freshfields as its only hope for a future. We tend to any health issues, usually at expense, caring for the animals, nurturing them in the hope that we can re-home them to loving people in the future. Please... help us to help them!
