September 2017

What a busy and eventful September we have had! It’s all been happening at Barking Mad Lancaster, from a brush with royalty to receiving certified canine first aid training, to ensure that we can continue to provide the best possible dog sitting service in Lancaster and Morecambe and the surrounding areas.

On the 14th of September we attended the Westmorland County Show with our colleague Alison, from Barking Mad South Lakes - Cumbria. The shone down on us and we had a lovely day filled with meeting lots of gorgeous doggies and friends new and old. We really enjoyed chatting to people about what we do and the 5* dog holidays we can offer their pets. It was great to say hello to so many of you!

There was a very special visitor to the showground this year as HRH The Prince of Wales was in attendance and actually walked right by the Barking Mad stand! Can you spot him in the photo below, with Kathryn in the background?

At the start of the month Kathryn attended a fantastic training course run by Hydropaws of Morecambe with tutor RVN Rachel Bean. The course covered all aspects of canine first aid and CPR. Your dog’s safety and welfare are our number one priority and we are committed to constantly improving the dog home boarding care which we offer.

We’re filling up fast with bookings for the festive period so if you are planning on going away don’t delay in contacting us on 01524 401222, to discuss dog care availability. We’re looking forward to providing lots of happy dog holidays filled with crisp, bracing walks and snuggles by the fire. You can take a peek at what Willow got up to on her recent dog holiday below!

August

It has been such an exciting time at Barking Mad Lancaster this August! As well as being very busy organising lots of dog holidays for your furry best friends, we have welcomed two brand new members of staff to our dog sitting team. The very fabulous Sue and Fiona are both devoted to dogs and can’t wait to meet all our wonderful canine customers, their lovely owners and of course, our amazing host families

Even though you may think that the main holiday season is drawing to a close, we still require more dog lovers to help us with dog sitting in Lancaster and Morecambe. Becoming a Barking Mad host is such a wonderful experience and allows people, for whom owning a dog just wouldn’t be possible, to enjoy companionship and exercise. A recent study by the University of Liverpool showed that dog walkers were motivated to walk their pets by the feeling of happiness it gave them.

As a host for Barking Mad, we agree with you in advance, the sort of dogs you feel would fit in with your lifestyle and how often you are available to have them. Each dog is chauffeur driven to your home and comes with everything they will need for the duration of their stay. From bowls to biscuits and toys to treats, the dog’s owner will have provided all their familiar essentials. All you have to do is enjoy spending time with your new canine companion!

If you would like to find out more about becoming a host for Barking Mad you can visit www.barkingmad.uk.com/dog-holidays/become-host or call Kathryn on 01524 401222. If you know someone that this may appeal to, please tell them about us.

We can hardly believe that we are now moving into September and thought we’d share a couple of snaps of a couple of our late summer dog holidays. Jeff and Max had a lovely time and as you can see, really made themselves at home.

July 2017

What an exciting, busy July we have had and what gorgeous, lovely dogs we have had to stay!

We really try our hardest to provide the very best dog home boarding experience that we possibly can and it is so rewarding when we receive feedback from our customers.

Barking Mad partners with Trustpilot, Europe’s largest and fastest growing consumer review platform, to allow our customers to share their experience of our home from home dog care with other dog lovers.

We receive fantastic feedback and five star ratings on a regular basis but this month has seen some particularly lovely comments and so we would like to say a huge thank you, to anyone who has taken the time to leave a review.

Layla and the Whale.

Im Layla I'm the little Pug
Made famous now in rhyme100_6282.jpg
I'm on holiday with Ellie-May
And we're having a wonderful time.

But today is hot,the sort of day
When you'd welcome a cooling dip
But they fenced the pond,I can't get in
I've checked every inch of it !

That's when I heard the splashing
The birds were in their bath,
And I thought to myself on this hot day
'I'm having some of that !'

So I reached and stretched and stretched and reached
Though it's not far off the ground,Till at last I'm having a paddle                                                             100_6285.jpg
My hot little paws cooling down.

100_6286.jpg

But what's that in the water ?
It's big and it's blue with a tail,
Oh,it's just the toy they gave me
It's Moby,the Bath Store whale.

I can see Ellie is looking at me
And I know what's in her mind,
But I don't care it's cool in here
And I'm having a whale of a time !

In a first for the dog sitting industry, Barking Mad’s television advert launched on 15th May! If you haven’t managed to catch #celebritydogHobbes on air yet you can visit: www.barkingmad.uk.com/video to see what all the fuss is about. We’re very proud to be involved in such an exciting project and can reveal that the actual car in the advert belongs to Kathryn Thompson, of Barking Mad Lancaster!

We are big fans of Hobbes, the gorgeous apricot Cockerpoo, who is such a superstar! He is helping to spread the word about the benefits and enjoyment of being a Barking Mad dog holiday host.

On the 7th of May we were delighted to attend the 14th annual Barking Mad Dog Care Conference, which was held at the stunningly located Lakeside Hotel, on the shores of Lake Windermere. It was fantastic to catch up with fellow Barking Mad business owners from throughout the country, coming together to share experiences and ideas. The aim, as always, was to improve the Barking Mad experience for both customers and hosts and we came away feeling inspired and looking forward to welcoming lots of happy doggy holiday makers over the coming busy Summer months.

April 2017

We would like to use our April news update to pay tribute to our Golden Retriever, T.J, who we devastatingly had to say goodbye to on Easter Monday. T.J was a Barking Mad legend, who had appeared in dog sitting training videos and online adverts for our National Head Office, as well as being the most amazing part of the family for fourteen years. He will never be far from our thoughts and will be very sadly missed as he runs free at the Rainbow Bridge.

It has been a tremendous privilege to have T.J in our lives and we would like to share some happy memories of our wonderful canine best friend. He was a gorgeous, big softy who just loved our company and would follow us about religiously. He had never been in kennels, hence Kathryn’s delight when she found out about Barking Mad home dog boarding as an alternative and her subsequent decision to run her own dog sitting business.

T.J was a real character who despite being scared of cats and plastic bags blowing in the wind, made it his mission to rid the world of squirrels! Luckily (for the squirrels) he never caught one but he would have had no idea what to do with one anyway. Despite a dislike of water, T.J adored muddy puddles and playing ball but only on his terms. He would chase a ball the first time it was thrown and then parade around, making a game of you trying to get it out of his mouth. If you threw the ball again he would look at you in disbelief!

As a typical Golden Retriever, T.J adored food and could often be found begging and drooling. In later years, despite losing most of his hearing and us having to communicate with him with hand signals, uncannily he could still always hear food wrappers being opened! T.J, we will miss you so much and you will always be in our hearts.

We can’t wait for one of the most important developments in Barking Mad history! Keep checking back to find out more…

We are very proud to be involved with the launch of the very first Dog Remembrance Month on April 3rd. As dog lovers we understand only too well how hard it can be when your beloved pet crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Many people simply don’t understand that dogs are a part of the family and how heartbreaking it can be to lose them. Dog Remembrance Month offers the opportunity to celebrate our canine best friends’ lives whilst providing mutual support and understanding. You can find out how to get involved here and also join our Facebook Group.

February 2017

2017 heralds the arrival of a brand new, fresh image for Barking Mad and our car was the first in the whole network to receive its facelift! Our new look conveys our absolute love of dogs, the happy holidays which they enjoy with us and the warm friendly, home from home service we offer.

                                                       Kathryn's car.jpg

This February has been a very special month as we have celebrated the fourteenth birthday of TJ, our adored Golden Retriever. He is now a very distinguished, elderly gentleman who thoroughly enjoyed all the attention lavished upon him! He was truly spoilt and received lots of lovely gifts, particularly from Uncle John and Aunty Dorothy who live nearby. We have also been looking back at some of his puppy photographs and reminiscing.

Age is no barrier to a dog holiday with Barking Mad Lancaster! We provide five star rated dog sitting in Lancaster and Morecambe and the surrounding area, for young dogs and the more mature canine alike, as long as they are fully vaccinated. With stunning Morecambe Bay scenery right on our doorstep and incredible dog walks around every corner, we are really putting our best paws forward and making the effort to just get out there! December 2016

Barking Mad Lancaster would like to wish all our customers, host families and friends, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We have had a busy year organising lots of very happy holidays for dogs, in the beautiful Morecambe Bay and Lune Valley area and matching up lots of lovely dogs with our equally lovely host families. We have received many fantastic reviews and we would like to let you know that we really appreciate and value your feedback.

                                                                Kat1.jpg

We are delighted to tell you that there will soon be letters about Barking Mad dogs, winging their way across the country! One of our fantastic hosts happened to mention to us that she missed having a penpal to write to. She enjoys looking after dogs who are on holiday so much but she missed being able to write about them too. After giving this some thought, we managed to put her in touch with another host in the North East, courtesy of Tracey Johnston of Barking Mad Cleveland, Teeside and Darlington.
We are so glad that Gaynor and Rachel will be able to correspond about their shared love of dogs and are pleased that we could put them in touch. With our adorable doggy holiday makers, we’re sure they’ll have lots to write about!

We really hope that everyone has a fantastic Christmas and that Santa Paws brings everything you dream of. We’re looking forward to providing more five star rated dog holidays, with home comforts in 2017!

October 2016

Layla a lovely little pug and her boxer sister Ellie May are regular Barking Mad holiday makers who love spending time with our wonderful hosts Shirley and Richard. Layla is a real character and her owners joke that when she is wearing her harness, she becomes a “portable dog”. Following their last break with Shirley and Richard, Richard wrote the following poem for her owners, who were thrilled and we all think Richard has missed his vocation in life!

Layla’s Great Escape

We’d just off for our walk through the woods
It’s one of our favourites and the smells are all good
We’d gone through the gate and he’d unclipped our leads
We have a quick shake, it’s good to be free.

We don’t want him lost so we keep him in sight
We’re responsible dogs and we do things right
And that’s when I noticed the rumbling sound
And felt the vibrations coming up through the ground.

A big herd of wildebeests? Horses or cattle?
Whatever was coming, it made the ground rattle
To fight or put flight? Going round in my head,
I don’t want to be squashed, I don’t want to be dead.

Now I may be little but I’m really brave
And I’d fight any fight, my friend Ellie to save
I looked at Ellie and she looked at me
And wondered if it’s easy for dogs to climb trees?

Then all of a sudden, the cause of the noise
Two mighty Labradors, a girl and a boy
Came hurtling at us and going so fast
It looked as if the walk could well be my last.

I prepared to do battle and fight for the cause
I stood to my tallest and readied my paws
Then all of a sudden I felt myself fly
I must be an Angel now, I must have died!

Was I crushed in the melle or torn limb from limb?
Death wasn’t so bad, I didn’t feel a thing
I look down, and Ellie’s just walking along
The turmoil, the dogs, and their owner had gone!
He knows the owner and the dogs are all play
But he’d lifted me up, he said just in case.

Being small’s an advantage I wasn’t aware
Till I felt myself hoisted up into the air!
So there wasn’t a battle, and I didn’t die
But I didn’t leave Ellie and I didn’t cry
But this whole adventure’s left me all agog
And happy that I am a portable dog!

September 2016

Following a really busy summer holiday period with a total of 167 dogs out on their holidays. September followed in a similar fashion with over 40 dogs holidays being booked in. On Thursday 8th September we enjoyed a very wet & muddy day at Westmorland County Show with Alison Quigley from the South Lakes Barking Mad branch, who was also celebrating her 1st year in business.

She brought along a beautiful cake, which looked amazing and tasted very delicious. It was nice to see people from head Office including Lotti, who really fancied a piece of the lovely cake and to see some of our customers and hosts visiting our stand, including Kassi who was on a Barking Mad holiday.

 August 2016

Alison Quigley, franchisee in the South Lakes, met Clare Malley photographer at the Lakeland Business Women’s Network. She asked her if she could take some new pictures for Barking Mad South Lakes and Barking Mad Lancaster, the locations she works as a professional photographer.

Clare arranged everything and met us with our dogs, TJ (Golden Retriever) and Yeshe (Bearded Collie). Clare likes her photo shoot to be in a local, familiar place where dogs are relaxed as that brings out their personality – it certainly did that, the results are super and special keepsakes for us and our families.

Clare was very professional and we at Barking Mad couldn’t have been happier with the beautiful albums she designed with us, they were gift wrapped and presented to both Alison and me – we will treasure them and share with all our customers too!

If you are looking to capture the real character of your pet/best friend, then Clare is the photographer for you. She can provide beautifully framed prints, various sized canvases and bespoke albums. You can see some of her amazing work on her website www.claremalleyphotography.com Twitter / Instagram: @ClareMPhoto or contact E: clare@claremalleyphotography.com M: 07899957130

We have been delighted to welcome so many new customers, alongside our loyal existing customers and we wish everyone a happy holidays where ever you are this summer!

Would you enjoy a dog for company?

If you love dogs but feel you cannot make the commitment to own one, why not become a host for us?

You look after dogs at a time that suits you and your lifestyle, as long as you have time available we would love to hear from you. Our hosts are generally retired people, families, people working from home and anyone who is longing for companionship with a dog.

We would not be able to provide our Barking Mad service without such fantastic hosts, who care for their canine visitors as if they were their own. Hosts say their house feels empty when they don’t have a dog to care for and look forward to the next one arriving. Every dog enjoys having a little holiday of their own!

Below are just a few of our happy holiday makers.

October 2015

Hello, Digger here and the handsome chap next to me is my dad Gelert.
Dad has taught me so many things, like how to behave (I try hard), how to look at people so they give me treats and to eat my food as soon as it is given to me (I learnt that the hard way as I was not as quick as my dad at first !)

Digger the black labrador on dog holiday
Recently a new human came to visit us, I was a bit nervous at first but dad said not to worry as she was “Barking Mad”, but in the best possible way. She asked lots of questions about me because she already knew all about my dad and I gave her my most appealing look. When she left, dad said I had done very well and that she would come back again soon and take us away for something called a “holiday”.

When the Barking Mad lady came back, dad jumped into the car so I followed and we set off to our “hosts” Shirley and Richard. Well I don’t know what I had been worried about, dad told me we would have a lovely time and we did. We had lots of walks with lots of new places to explore and a fantastic garden to play in. Dad said Richard had been a bit worried as to why I was called Digger but was glad to learn that I didn’t live up to my name.

When we went home, our human had been sent pictures of us on our holiday and we took her a postcard telling her what we had been doing. She knew we had had a wonderful time and we can’t wait for her to go away again so we can go on another Barking Mad holiday.
