A big welcome from Barking Mad, we’re a five-star dog sitting service in Fife & Kinross. We believe in providing dogs with the perfect holiday home when their family is away on their own holiday time! Dog boarding deserves a personalised touch; Barking Mad provides your dog with a loving short-term home.
No dog owner wants to leave their pet behind when they go away on holiday or for business. Traditionally, kennels have been the go-to dog sitter experience, but these are not always the best idea, often with multiple dogs grouped in one place, all being exercised and fed at the same times. You might have a specific routine for your dog, but this won’t be catered for in a dog kennel. Barking Mad is a fantastic bespoke alternative, aiming to keep your dog healthy and happy for the duration of their stay with us.
Any human or animal suffers a little when separated from their loved ones, why would your beloved dog be any different? Dogs are intelligent animals and can sense the difference immediately if there is a change in routine. They long to be with their ‘pack’ – your family – and just think about the excited times when they run to the door sensing a walk is on the cards. When those times vanish it can be distressing.
What better way to relieve this stressful situation than by placing your dog with a family that loves animals, dogs especially, who will follow the strict pet care criteria laid out by Barking Mad? We make sure that your pet is fully at home and comfortable with their host family, and we even insist that they bring along their home comforts. So pack a bag with their specific food, blankets, toys and bowls to keep them relaxed in your absence and comfortable in their surroundings.
Each host family that works with us are vetted in a strict manner, ensuring that you receive the best possible service whilst your dog is in the care of another family. Every little detail is important to your pet, so we do our utmost to keep to the daily routines, types of food, and other items you use in everyday life. When it comes to specialist nutritional supplements or medication, we’ve got that covered for you too, utilising our vast database of dog loving host families.
Have a look through our independently verified reviews and you’ll see that we’re not just bragging without facts behind us, as dog sitters in Fife & Kinross we truly are regarded as the best around. Each client is asked to fill out a short testimonial to ensure that other dog owners can see up-to-date feedback. Our service is being called five-star by our clients, which makes the work at Barking Mad worthwhile!
Something we do like to do is keep you informed while you are away. Your dog is on holiday too, remember, so we know you’ll want to know what they are up to! You’ll be sent a dog holiday postcard with accompanying photos, giving you the peace of mind that they are being well looked after and enjoying themselves. You can sit back and relax that little bit more yourself knowing this. If there does happen to be a problem, we have skilled dog handlers on call with 24-hour backup support.
Although we are proud to be the leading dog sitters in Fife & Kinross, it’s not just your local area that we have covered. In fact, we have dog care branches throughout the UK, so if you are looking for a dog-boarding service a little further afield we’ll be happy to help you out. We also have the ability to place your dog in a home that can take them on board for days at a time, or even several weeks; we are flexible when it comes to our service.
In 2000, Barking Mad was established to help dog owners find a quality dog care service unlike anything else on the market at that time. We didn’t want to just visit your home to feed the dogs and take them for a walk, and then just leave them behind. We didn’t want to let them feel alone, or to miss out on their individual needs being met in a kennel. We understand that you show your dog love and compassion on a daily basis, so we set up a database of like-minded host families and individuals who will do the same in your absence! No other pet care company can rival us for our passion and bespoke service.
Take a look at our brochure, read the five-star reviews, and when you’re ready to talk, we are here. We believe in a personalised approach from the off, so give us a call on 01524 220202 or an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can meet you and your dog to put together a plan to place them in the most loving and caring home available for a short term stay.

The best bit for us is seeing dogs happily settled-in and comfortable with their host. We will, wherever possible, be sure to use the same family each time you book a holiday. There are no minimum or maximum time limits we’re here whenever you need us.
Ask for your loyalty card. When your card is full you receive a FREE stay on us! (1 full card = 28 paw stamps).
If you love dogs but can’t commit to the full time financial and emotional responsibility of having a dog of your own, or if you have a very sociable dog who would benefit from visiting guests coming to stay, then you’ve come to the right place!
Our very own host families are extremely special people indeed. They have been selected carefully and interviewed in depth at home to ensure they meet our criteria. We get to know them really well and have worked with many of them for a great number of years.
Who are our hosts
It goes without saying, all of our hosts, without exception, are absolutely dotty about dogs. Some are actively retired people who’ve had dogs all of their lives but now enjoy the freedom and flexibility of caring for dogs on holiday. Others are younger, often with a family at home, where the addition of a visiting dog is great fun for all.
How it works
We’ve done all the hard work so you don’t have to. We think it’s important that our hosts concentrate on looking after visiting dogs and that they are not exposed to, or distracted by a constant flow of potential customers and dogs coming and going. Our hosts are also protected from the awkwardness of dealing with money, insurance and paperwork, so that the enjoyment of looking after visiting dogs remains their focus.
Support 24 Hours a Day – 7 Days a Week
Looking after someone else’s dog is great fun, however from time to time you may need a little local, on the ground support and it’s great to know we’re on hand 24/7 to provide just that.
If you’re interested in joining our fun, dog loving host community to become a pet sitter we’d love to hear from you.

"We enjoy looking after peoples dogs as it gives us pleasure to think they have come from home to home. Sometimes our commitments are heavy but It fits in with our lifestyle as we can do it as and when we can. It gives us pleasure and hopefully the pets enjoy our company too. Barking Mad are efficiently run and if I had a dog of my own would gladly let them find a host for my."

"Lulu has just been to me on her fourth visit. We've both had a lovely time and it seems strange today without her. She is well known and well loved by my friends and neighbours now as well as the local dogs. We all look forward to seeing her again soon."
Jackie - 6th Jan, 2017
"We had the pleasure of looking after Pip for 2 weeks over Christmas this year! We all loved having him for his 2nd visit with us. We enjoyed the walks (even in the cold and sometimes wet) and my children loved his company too!
I would love to have a dog of my own sometime soon, but looking after dogs with Barking Mad gives me the opportunity to see how a dog would fit into our lives, what challenges it might bring and what delights too! I can test out different breeds and ages too in case I go down the rescue dog route!
Definitely a win win option."
Brenda - 6th Jan, 2017
"We recently had Molly come to stay we all fell in love with her. My dog Wiggles loved her too
She was so good and had us laughing when she showed attention to the Tv.
We enjoyed her company and will look forward to her coming to see us again.

"We thought the service we got from Emily at Barking Mad was very professional - the information we received on Inca prior to our having her was very precise and made our experience all the better. It was good to know she was at the end of the phone especially as this was our first time. Inca was a pleasure to have and as advised needed lots of love and attention which we certainly gave her. We look forward to the next time to host again. Many thanks."
Brenda - 26th Oct, 2016

"Lulu has just gone home after seventeen nights with me. This is the longest stay I've had but it wasn't too long. She is a delightful, easy dog to look after who quickly makes herself at home.
This is the third time she's been to me and I look forward to her next visit."
Brenda - 4th Oct, 2016
"I think Barking Mad is such a lovely idea as the dogs can visit families a bit of a holiday whilst their owners have a holiday too.
We recently enjoyed a visit from a beautiful dog Fozzie he settled into our home quite happily and we enjoyed him too.
Animals need to feel secure with no worries and fitting into a family environment makes for a happy doggie I think Barking Mad is a very good idea
I will look forward to the next vistor on four legs."
Jackie - 12th Sep, 2016
"I have recently looked after Pip for just over a week and really enjoyed it. I am looking to have a dog myself but want to be 100% sure I am doing the right thing before I take the plunge.
I love that with barking mad you get lots of help and support while looking after someone else's precious dog. If you have a problem or the dog becomes unwell you also know that help is at hand. I found the experience rewarding and it was lovely having Pip stay with us. The problem is we missed him when he was gone...
I would like to continue looking after dogs with barking mad.
Celia - 19th Jul, 2016
"Hugo has just had two weeks holiday with me. As a lively two-year-old Springer he was more of a challenge than I've had before but I loved it, and him. We walked many miles and I managed to loose some weight. An added bonus for me!
I think Hugo enjoyed having my undivided attention and he certainly made the most of it. I always think about how I would like my own dog to feel - happy, secure, content, and loved."
Linda - 29th Jun, 2016
"Hello I love having the dogs it gets me out and about too..I am fairly new to the neighbourhood. And I have met people that I would not have met if I was not hosting. All the dogs I have had since I've been hosting have been very good I love them all. I wish I could have some of the small dogs back I had last year!. Posted by Linda"

"I love being a host we find it encourages us to go out more and explore dog friendly places so we get loads of fresh air and exercise. We have the peace of mind that Barking Mad are on the end of a phone if we need them for any reason and its a great way of having a dog without the costs involved. Also if your lifestyle means you cannot have a dog then this is a great alternative. I would definitely recommend it as all the dogs we have had have been easy to care for and friendly, the hardest part is saying goodbye but because you know they will probably have another holiday before too long you don't get upset you just look forward to their next stay."
Anne and David - 28th Jun, 2016
"Hosting a dog gives us a lot of pleasure and is very rewarding. We have only been hosting dogs for 3 months but we're really enjoying it. It gives you the satisfaction of knowing that each dog has had a lot of love and a good home from home holiday. We treat every dog as if it was ours, taking note of the pet profile guidelines. It is a great help knowing that you have the back-up of Barking Mad should anything untoward happen, which gives us peace of mind. John has been excellent matching us with the dogs we've hosted so far."
Brian and Carole - 8th Apr, 2016
"We have been hosting for 18 months now and have come to know the regular dogs we have. The owners have requested many times that they like them to go back to the same host. We find it rewarding that they make these requests.
Nicola is always very careful to match the host and dog and this shows in the requests she gets.
Keep up the good work. A perfect match makes a happy owner, dog and host.
Barking mad prides itself on this and Nicola and her team work very hard to make this happen.
We have just got another first time little doggy today and we hope that he will want to come back again.
A big thankyou to all the team."
Celia - 6th Apr, 2016
"Archie has just gone home after his second visit. He's the most affectionate little dog I've met. Really loving, kind, and gentle. He can be a bit naughty sometimes but we suit one another well and both thoroughly enjoyed our week."
Gwen - 31st Mar, 2016
"We have just had a second visit from a lovely dog that we first met over last Xmas. Having become very fond of her the first time, it was lovely to see her again. She settled more quickly this visit, and was very relaxed. We really enjoyed our time with her, and look forward to her next visit."
Gwen - 24th Mar, 2016
"We have just had a beautiful golden labrador to share our lives with for the past nine days. He was delightful, really good around other dogs and children, and a joy to be with. I'm looking forward to having him to stay again."
Pam - 18th Mar, 2016
"We have just said goodbye to our latest doggy client and thoroughly enjoyed having him here.
He settled in straight away, was friendly and playful. We never imagined choosing this breed ourselves but he's now a very firm favourite and today the house seems empty without him. Hope to look after him again sometime."
Gwen - 14th Mar, 2016
"I enjoy doing the best I can to make sure that my doggy guest feels relaxed, cared for and loved whilst they're away from home. This is what I would want for my own dog, when I have to go away on holiday, so I find it very rewarding to provide this for other people and their dogs."
Jenny - 8th Feb, 2016
"For me, the best part of being a Barking Mad host is getting to know all the different doggie personalities and making friendships with them, particularly when my new houseguest could be feeling a little bit homesick."
Margaret & Stan - 26th Jan, 2016
"We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting a lot of Barking Mad dogs over the last seven years. We have always had terrific support from Brad and team and prior to that from Chris and Alex. In all that time we have only needed help once during a visit, for minor veterinary attention, and that was dealt with very quickly and efficiently. I think this is because the dogs are well matched to their hosts (and the hosts own dogs!) in the first place. We also use Barking Mad for our own dogs holidays."
Adam - 22nd Jan, 2016
"When we moved to Dundee we both missed not having a dog in our lives. Being a host for Barking Mad gave us the opportunity to have that again, even though giving them back at the end is always hard.
It allowed us to see how well having a dog would fit into our lives in a full time situation, and directly influenced our decision to get our own. Now we look forward to hosting other dogs for Angus to play with.
As hosts, the support you receive from Brad is amazing and the detail he goes into to facilitate yours and the dogs well being is incredible.
I would thoroughly recommend anyone who wants to have a visitor now and again, someone who misses the company of the dog but has commitments and everybody who wants a dog but is not sure if it will work to become a host with Barking Mad, you won't regret it!"
Lorna - 22nd Jan, 2016
"I have been a host for several years, I started with Barking Mad as I wanted to have a dog but visiting family in the south made it impractical, so when I am home I have a dog, I have had a great variety of dogs from a little Jack Russell to a huge mountain dog. Barking mad is great because they match dogs with their hosts in all the years of hosting I have never had a dog that I would not have again. Hosting dogs means I go out everyday, I talk to many people and share doggie stories."
Ed and Barbara - 22nd Jan, 2016
"Having a four-legged lodger for a few days is always a pleasure. Still getting over the loss of our own dog but nothing cheers you up more than another wagging tail around the house. Great support from Brad and his team. If only he could do something about this awful Scottish weather."
Kate & Graham - 20th Jan, 2016
"We live in Shirley and have local parks, woods and fields nearby. Whatever the weather we love taking the dogs out and about. They have joined us for barbecues, street parties and made visits to a local elderly care home. Our grandchildren have learned to overcome their fear of dogs by meeting our 'guests'.Having a dog keeps us fit and healthy too. Our garden is large and well fenced so the dogs can enjoy chasing squirrels!
We would love to have a dog of our own but with working full-time until recently and travelling it never seemed the right time. Having dogs for Barking Mad has 'filled the need'. We have had so many dogs to stay (and everyone a pleasure) and one in particular has come twice a year since 2008.
Tina organises things so well - she 'matches' the right dog to the right host - so everyone is happy ( most of all the dog!)"
Susan - 20th Jan, 2016
"I love being a host for dogs with Barking Mad, and enjoy meeting the different visiting dogs, and getting to know each ones individual personality."
Sandra & Terry - 19th Jan, 2016
"We love being hosts to barking mad, Terry is around most of the day, and I work 4 days a week, so we can have doggies almost all the time other than we are on our hols !!, we already have our fav’s Bruno, Bentley, Darcy , Biscuit, Ben the boxer & Gunner, and Tina will try her up most so we can have them on repeat hols, it means a lot to us as we love looking after all the little & big ones, and they all have there own little characters, we have photos of all the dogs we have had since July last year, and look forward to seeing them all again this year, and miss them when they go home, It’s a pleasure to look after doggies on there hols, & and its filled a gap since loosing a couple of our own pets last year,"
Jenny, John and Jean - 15th Jan, 2016
"Being an animal lover - I love working with Barking Mad and being a host for them. I especially like having their beautiful doggies to stay. The doggies all have their own very different characters and we have some good times filled with really good fun and laughs with the doggies that stay with us.
We all really enjoy having the pets and get out and about and sometimes on the odd occasion we take them out to other parks and places close to home. Its just like having your own pet!
I do like the events and walks that Tina at Barking Mad arranges. Its a chance to get out with other hosts and meet them and hear their tales as a host.
I recall a fete we went to lovely sunny day with lots of dogs and we all had such a great time, I recall feeling quite sorry when the fete ended."
Tracey - 15th Jan, 2016
"We have been hosting since last summer and really enjoy the experience and getting to know the personalities of the dogs, even the cheeky ones !
I particularly like walking in the fields and woods nearby with my host dogs as company, and its great exercise too.
Rosina - 15th Jan, 2016
"I first looked after dogs in 2005 & have kept photos of all my visitors. After a break, came back to it a couple of years ago. I have had Millie two years running & cannot wait to greet her again in July, it feels like a special friend spending her holiday with me :)"
Gwen - 8th Jan, 2016
"Sheba, a beautiful Belgian Shepherd dog, was my first experience with 'Barking Mad'. She was adorable, very gentle, and well behaved. She seemed to fall in love with my partner - maybe she saw him as her temporary pack leader - and we both really enjoyed her company over the Christmas period. Having lost my own much loved collie of over 15 years, in October, I had felt lost without a dog to love and care for - so being a 'Barking Mad' host was ideal for me. We're so looking forward to our next doggie guest, and also hope to see Sheba again at some time in the future."
Celia - 8th Jan, 2016
"My last visitor, Pip, was an absolute sweetie. A breed I've not had experience of before and a real delight. She came to me for just a few days before going on to her regular family.
She loved her bed - well actually my bed - and when she was ready to go up at night she would stand at the bottom of the stairs, with one paw on the bottom step, and stare at me until I gave in."
Elaine - 9th Nov, 2015
"We really love our holiday dogs, we like to spoil them, love them, lots of cuddles and make sure they are really happy with us, it's lovely to get the same dog(s) over and over again, they just make themselves at home, and all our dogs know where the 'treat' cupboard is.. We get such a lot of love from them and look forward to them returning."
Sarah and Stan - 9th Nov, 2015
"We adore having new Barking Mad dogs come to stay and love it even more when they return for second and third visits. Its such a pleasure to spend time with these much loved dogs and take them for walks on the beach and around the countryside. We know that when our 'crazy' Collie goes to stay with a Barking Mad host, she will be safe, happy, and much loved."
Liz - 4th Nov, 2015
"We have really enjoyed hosting our last two dogs, Nelson and Finn. As a family we enjoy meeting the new dogs and letting them be a part of our family, albeit only for a while. It is good to know if we have any issues we can just call Emily. We hope to keep hosting even when we get our own dog, (something my husband would never have agreed to until he realized how complete a dog makes a home)."
Debra - 4th Nov, 2015
"We have had a full calendar for October starting with a surprise arrival as another host was sadly taken poorly. Ruby arrived within 40 minutes of the phone call but soon settled in and became a family favorite. Then came Azi, she takes over our lives but ooh how we love her. Lastly we had Jess, an old lurcher who turned into a puppy again when it was walkies time. Each very different but all very lovable."
Diana - 15th Oct, 2015
"I have always had dogs since I was born, having lived on a farm. I cannot remember ever being without dogs. Now I am on my own it is great to have more than one dog.
I am a dog lover, plus Kali my lab just love to go on walks and have company at home.
So we are both very happy bunnies"
Nicky - 13th Oct, 2015
"I started pet sitting nine years ago for Barking Mad.
It is very enjoyable and I love the country and Beach Walks. I have to make an effort to get out with the dogs here.
I have many regulars that come year after year. Each dog has its separate character. With the pairs I love watching the integration between the two dogs.
I work for Ian Carney who pays a lot of attention to detail, doesn't mind going over things with me if I am not sure and always makes sure the dog is familiar with my bungalow before he leaves. He always promptly answers the phone and I feel that I am not alone with the responsibility of someone else's dog.
My life would be empty without Barking Mad.

"Having just said goodbye to our 2nd holiday dog whom we've enjoyed entertaining and looking after. We look forward to our next dog!"
Carole - 21st Sep, 2015
"Nicola and her team always go the extra mile to ensure they are acting in the dogs best interest. If there is any doubt about a dogs health she will always act accordingly so that the owners can rest assured that there dog will get the best possible attention and the owner can relax and enjoy their holiday. We have always welcomed all our lovely dogs for holidays and they enjoy their stay.
Keep up the good work and keep sending these lovely dogs for their holidays that they can enjoy.
A first class team who cares unreservably for the dogs in their care. Posted by Carole"
Debra - 17th Sep, 2015
"We have just enjoyed a lovely long weekend with Roxy the staffy. She is so well behaved we hardly knew she was there but now she has gone our home is a quieter sadder place. This is why we love Barking Mad as each dog gives us a smile!"
Sarah and Stan - 9th Sep, 2015
"We love taking our four legged holiday friends for walks through the fields and to the beach, Its a privilege to get to know the new dogs and become friends and really special when they come back to us for a repeat holiday full of cuddles and fun."
Angela - 21st Aug, 2015
"I have just become a host for Barking Mad and recently cared for my first dog, a lovely old Labrador. He fitted in so well with my own two dogs and I thoroughly enjoyed giving him a special holiday for a few days and am really looking forward to helping out again. It is something very dear to my heart and feel I am being of use to others in providing a safe and welcoming home from home for someone's beloved pet. Plus my own pets also enjoy the company."
Elaine - 21st Aug, 2015
"We love looking after our holiday dogs, they are all really lovely, friendly and usually make themselves at home straight away. We especially like to have the same dog back time after time and they always look really pleased to see us again."
Brian and Carole - 19th Aug, 2015
"Monty is always a pleasure to have in our home.. Just gone back to his home after another great holiday.

"I love having dogs I was brought up with my father's GunDogs we always had 2 or 3 at a time. A friend saw you advertising for people to look after them while a way on holiday or just for a week- end. So I did just that. I loved having Maisie also Kali loved it as well."
Cynthia - 10th Aug, 2015
"My Barking Mad dogs, many of whom come back again and again, light up my life. They are all different, with different hopes and needs, and getting to know them and earn their trust and affection is pure joy. They go everywhere with me, visiting friends, shopping, and of course on lots of nice healthy walks, good for me as well as them. Total strangers have become friends, stopping me in the street with "What's this one's name, then?" - or even, on between days, with a disappointed "No dog today?"
God bless BM, my area manager Ian, my owners, and first and foremost, all my dogs."
Celia - 4th Aug, 2015
"Rolo has just gone home after his weekend trial. He passed with flying colours. 10/10 I would say and I'm looking forward to his return towards the end of the week.
Well done Emily - you worked out straight away what sort of dogs are best suited to my situation. Quicker than I did."
Pam & Ray - 21st Jul, 2015
"After a year of being without a dog it was great to have not one but two dogs in the house. To see two little faces greeting us from their crate when we returned home was lovely. They settled in well and Emily made sure we were happy with them. Our grandchildren who live opposite were constantly here playing with them, which they adored. If only we had heard about Barking Mad when we were dog owners and didn't want to use kennels!!!!!!!!"
Filomena - 9th Jul, 2015
"Having Pebbles for a few days was delightful and Finley enjoyed the company. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of dealing with a dog other than my own and understanding her needs.
She seemed extremely happy and made herself at home immediately. All doggie friends on park enjoyed meeting her and she was in her element.
Great fun all round."
Mary - 8th Jul, 2015
"I've often asked myself why on earth anyone would want to be a host for Barking Mad. Belly rubs, staffie, Henry's smelly farts, being first out in pristine snow, pickle's snoring (how the walls vibrate), watching Starsky grow from a gangling four month pup into a well behaved teenager. I can go on and on but my favourite is sleeping on the settee on a hot afternoon having a 'nana nap' with a happy, contented pooch sleeping on my stomach dreaming of rabbits.
In 2014 I looked after 24 different dogs, most of whom returned numerous times. So far this year I've had 18 from little to large to very large (ah yes - Dudley). If I put my foot down and ask for time out to have a holiday myself then I get those puppy dog eyes from Ian (the boss) suggesting that I would love to take a dog with me. I generally succumb and thoroughly enjoy our time together.
Would I recommend being a Barking Mad host to anyone else? Having a boss like Ian who is very keen and hands on makes being a host easier. Should anything crop up he will be straight round to deal with it. I love hosting and would urge those people who are thinking about it to have a go. Where else can you wake up to a pair of soulful eyes, a lolling tongue and a wet nose in your immediate field of vision - that's enough about the old man!
Hi you folks at head office. I have spoken to Ian and he says that if you use this can you put it on both his Bath and Dorset sites please. Many thanks. Mary xx"

"Having lost my beloved 15-year-old Westie last July I decided to sign up as a Host with Barking Mad towards the end of the year.
To be honest the first dog that came to me didn't really suit me and I wasn't sure I would do it again. But Emily persuaded me to have another try and I've had several dogs since which have all been delightful. My favourite, Lulu, has just gone home after her third visit.
I know she loves coming to me and I love having her."
Shannon - 27th May, 2015
"I love looking after all the different types of dogs that come for there holiday with me. I love caring for them as if they where my own. It gets me out and about meeting new people and their dogs too. All the dogs I've had come everywhere with me and even though each dog had a different personality they where all great to have. I look forward to caring for more dogs as well as caring for the same dogs that i have had."

"Just coming to the end of another period of hosting a Barking Mad dog on holiday. We really appreciate what Nicola and her team do to connect the right dog to the right family. After having dogs all our lives the time came for us not to be selfish and home another dog in later life. Barking Mad filled that gap and we adore giving a home from home holiday to these special dogs. It's just what we wanted for our dogs rather than kennels.
We feel privileged to be a host for Barking Mad and look forward to giving the next dog with a good home, a good holiday.
Nicola and her team are very professional and give the owners and host families a very professional approach which makes a good holiday for the dogs and a lot of fun and satisfaction for the hosts.
Keep up the good work and can't wait for the next dog to come on holiday. Thank you to you all. Brian and Carole"

"I have loved having the pugs, a breed I've been thinking about getting. Was so nice to have a dog in the house again. All very well behaved and was nice to know Emily was always on call should the need arise. Looking forwards to my next house guest. Sue"

"Lulu, a delightful little Coton de Tulear, was collected from me yesterday after a nine-day stay. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I was sorry to see her go. - Can't wait for her to come back again."

"Love looking after our holiday dogs. It's a brilliant, well run company, with people who really do care about the dogs, I would highly recommend to would be hosts or dog owners who can rest assured their babies will be well looked after."

"Really enjoyed having Hamish. Appreciated the support, from Emily, with the walking issue and the fact I could call if any issues.
Next dog please.

"Me and my family love being a part of the Barking mad team! It makes me feel happy knowing the dog isnt in kennels and instead having a fun time in the our home. Its also great for my own two dogs, it gives them the chance to make new friends and socialise with other dogs all shapes and sizes!"

"I recently hosted my first little visitors from Barking Mad. I was slightly nervous having 3 at once, but I need not have been concerned, Emily was very good with lots of info about what I needed to do.
They very quickly settled in and I really enjoyed having their companionship. I loved taking them out each day and watching them play with their toys."

"It's now twelve years since I first asked Barking Mad to look after our lovely Boxer Amber.Later,we became hosts and since Amber died,Barking Mad has helped to fulfill our enjoyment of canine companionship with dogs of many different breeds and temperament.
It is lovely when we have repeat visitors,to know that their owners are just as pleased with the Barking Mad service and care of their cherished dogs as I was with Amber."

"We love the opportunity of hosting dogs as we no longer have of our own. This is a great way of having a dog around the house without the commitment of owning a dog."
Liz - 30th Sep, 2014
"My family and I love being hosts as it gives us the chance to meet lots of different dogs and get to know them.
The house feels empty once the dog has gone but we really enjoy giving the dogs a holiday and the owners piece of mind that this member of their family is being cared for safely and for a few days is a part of our family.
It is always good to know that Emily is on the end of the phone for support and the clear guidelines from the owners let us know what the dog enjoys and what their routines are."
Bruan and Carole - 22nd Sep, 2014
"We have just had our first dog on holiday and jess was a pleasure to have. We have always had dogs but lost our last one a year ago. It was a hard decision not to have another, but our age is against commiting to owning another. We saw a local advert for hosts and Nicola from barking mad made the whole process so easy.
Its the best decision we could have made and cant wait for our next doggy to come for a holiday. They make the house a home again. We love it. Thanks Nicola."
Monica - 28th Aug, 2014
"I lost my dog after 15 yrs together , so Barking Mad is ideal for me, I so enjoy having my doggy visitors, every one of them have their own characteristics, which is so nice to discover, whether they like playing ball, or tug of war with one of their toys, and I enjoy our walks as much as they do as well. "How does one sum up being a Barking Mad host? Fun, good loving company, enjoyable healthy exercise and sociable walks when holiday dogs are here. When they are not, then time alone to relax, visit friends, have days out, holidays etc, but soon something is missing. You can't beat doggy company! So I look forward to my next 4 legged holiday guest.
When they arrive I read their notes (what to feed, when to walk, favourite games) all the information I need to make them feel at home. Together we enjoy their holiday and I help them write a holiday post card at the end of their stay!
Life couldn't be better, especially when they come again and their body language, eyes and tail all say 'great to be back, let's have more fun.' Penny the Patterdale, Ellie the Collie, Riley and Alfie thank you for coming into my life. I'm sure you are the first of many more holiday makers who I'll enjoy welcoming into this holiday home for dogs.
When my 16 year old Bonnie went to doggie heaven recently I couldn't decide whether or not to get another dog. There were advantages on both sides, so I got in touch with Barking Mad and with help from Nicola I became a holiday home for dogs. It's great fun, varied, flexible and rewarding; The benefits of having a dog whenever you want, without being tied all the time.
Thank you Barking Mad for enhancing my life.

"I have always owned animals but current circumstances don't allow me to commit full time to the care of a pet. I missed so much not having one around, saw the advert for Barking Mad and Barking Mad took me on. It is the perfect solution! I have had the privilege of looking after some wonderful dogs, enjoying walks and cuddles with my little friends. Now I always have a doggie to look forward to, some of them stay with me regularly, which is especially fun. Any drawbacks? - having to return my little friends at the end of their holiday!
Becoming a Barking Mad Host is one of the best decisions I have ever made!!"
Mavis - 30th Jun, 2014
"I have been hosting for Barking Mad for almost six years now, and have so much enjoyed the company of some beautiful dogs of many breeds. I didn't want to get another dog of my own, so this was a perfect solution to have the opportunity of having a lovely dog for company, walks and fun, and yet be free to go away whenever I chose. As time goes by, certain dogs return for repeated holidays, which proves that a happy dog means a happy owner who entrusts their much loved pet to you. Barking Mad is a well structured company, and it is always good to know that 24hr support is on hand if ever needed."
Bernie & Susie - 24th Jun, 2014
"Although new to Barking Mad its been one of the best things we have done living on a small farm we have space and plenty of local walks to offer our wonderful friends who have stayed with us. each one is missed and we long for their return.
We have set up a gallery of our new friends and find great pleasure looking at the moments they have shared with us."
Niccola - 4th Jun, 2014
"I can honestly say that being a host for barking mad has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. It has helped me physically, emotionally and financially. After losing my own dearly loved Jack Russell I decided I couldn't have another dog to go through the pain of losing it again. Then along came Barking Mad, it must be nearly 7 years ago now and I've never looked back. All the dogs are such a pleasure and a joy to care for. You love them like they are your own and yes, you miss them when they go home but you know there will be another little one on its way to fill the space very soon . The best thing is that they do all come back regularly so your home really does become a home from home, it is wonderful when they come in and you know they are as happy to see you again as you are to see them. It really is the best thing, everything is in place to ensure you have 24hr help and support if necessary. You can specify what type or size of dog you prefer and also specify when you are available. Basically if you're happy the dog is happy and vice versa."
Karen - 27th May, 2014
"This has been my first week as a host of Barking Mad and I/we are loving
it! My first dog guest was Maisie a bearded collie cross. She stayed with us
for the weekend and was such a pleasure to look after. We had lots of fun at
the beaches and parks. We then had lovely little Malcolm a jack Russell cross.
He was very excitable but settled very quickly. He loved playing in the back garden and on
our walks where he came across rabbits, horses and even hens. We are looking
forward to getting gorgeous Bertie very soon. The house seems strange when we
don't have a doggy guest now.
Thanks again, Brad.
Karen, Brian, Nico and Dylan."

"Our "visitors" have become part of our family over the years. They are as different as our children, and, just like our kids, we love them to bits. Nicola has proved to be a good friend as well as a wonderful "boss". Of course, we do spoil our dogs but they are on their holiday!"
Bev & Ellie - 15th May, 2014
"We love the flexibilty of having different dogs to look after, and we have a few regulars now, especially over half term and school holidays, they bring such fun into the house, with their own individual personalities, we shower them with love and affection (as would their owners) and get very attached - but we know they have to go home, till the next time..."
Cid - 15th May, 2014
"There are so many reasons to love having dogs come to stay with us..... we love having a variety of sizes and breeds and personalities, there's always something to delight us! My boys love having dogs around to play with, and they don't get bored with walking them or feeding them because there's always something different. We get such fantastic characters come and stay with us, they get us out and about, they fill the house with wonderful dogginess. If there's a downside, it's the sadness when they go back home..... until our next doggy friend comes to stay, that is!"

"I enquired about being a host following my friends' dog being on a 'Barking Mad' holiday. As soon as I met Tina I decided that I would like to become a host, because I was impressed by her friendly professionalism and her genuine love of meeting the needs of dogs and their owners. I have been very well matched with some delightful canine companions! I look forward to the regulars and to meeting new dogs. I have not had any problems as such, but appreciate the speed of response and action from Tina, Colin and Carol-Ann when I have needed information or help with something. I might also add that that Tina, Colin and Carol-Ann are as lovely as the dogs they bring!"
Mick and Shirley - 22nd Apr, 2014
"When we retired, we considered getting a dog of our own. We'd had lots of dogs whilst the children were young but it had been a few years since our last one had died. However, we planned to travel so thought perhaps it wasn't a sensible idea. Then one day, Shirley overheard a conversation about Barking Mad.....and the rest is history! Tina was brilliant - her passion and love for the animals was obvious and we warmed to her straight away. Very soon after, Charlotte, a chocolate Labrador, came to stay with us for 2 weeks. Charlotte adopted us and gave us all her love, attention and affection. The walks, the fresh air, the laughter we had with her were excellent. We said "goodbye" and looked forward to our next dog. Since 2011, when we became hosts, we've had lots of different dogs and return visits from a number of them. It's great getting to know their personalities and learning about them. Tina is always available to consult if there are any difficulties. If anyone is considering becoming a host, we would strongly recommend it. We've never regretted it for one moment! We've just returned from 9 weeks travelling and are desperate to meet our next four legged house guest!"
Karen and Paul - 17th Apr, 2014
"A house isn't a home without a dog in it. Our labrador, Hero loves to have a friend for a couple weeks - they have lots of fun running and playing together, then Hero gets a rest before the next doggy visitor arrives. There's something very special about a wagging tail, and a doggy greeting! We're very pleased we found Barking Mad and treat all our visitors as we would expect Hero to be treated - with love and respect."

"My family used Barking Mad initially for our own dog Sally. She was an old labrador and I never wanted her to be put in kennels when we went on holiday. Tina at Barking Mad came out and totally put our minds at ease. We were shown various hosts, their gardens and all Sally's needs were taken care of. This made us feel so relaxed going on holiday knowing Sally was in the best hands, literally home from home care. She was, most of the time, homed with the same family which was even more reassuring! Sally did take poorly when we were on holiday once and we were up-dated daily by Tina and Barking Mad took extremely good care of her, I will never forget them for that. When Sally passed away a few years ago we knew we didn't want to get another dog and decided on being a host family. It really is the best of both worlds. My 12 year old son particularly loves dogs coming to stay and the love we get from them. We've had all sorts of different dogs and characters. However, as we are busy during school holidays etc, we can select when we would like to take dogs. We have the freedom now and it's so much fun. The great thing is we know we have the back up and support from Tina which is fantastic. If things sometimes don't work out Tina is there to help and even take a dog should we be unable to look after it (which is a very rare occurrence as Tina is excellent at selecting the right dog for the right host). We take lots of photographs for the owners which Tina emails to them, should they wish, on holiday. We also write a little postcard for the families so they know what their pet has been up to while they have been away. It really is a fantastic company and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. If you are wanting company from a dog but without the full time commitment then look no further than Barking Mad. Go on, give it a try.......!"
Sue and Paul - 17th Apr, 2014
"We became hosts for Barking Mad, thinking it would be good to have a dog occasionally and the exercise would be good for us, being retired we need to keep going!!
Tina impressed us immediately..she really works hard at matching the dogs to the people. We love dogs that are good fun on their walks, but behave in the house (who doesn't?) and we have had a range of young and old, big and small and lots and lots of Labradors. If there has been a problem e.g. The dog needs the vet to check something, Tina, Colin or Carol Ann arrive and take the animal to the vet. We had one dog who obviously wasn't happy, and frankly was making us unhappy, perhaps pining for its owner, and Tina took it and looked after it herself. So we never have to worry that we are stuck with an animal that we don't get on with.
Tina has become a good friend, and her team of Colin and Carol Ann are so professional and caring with the animals it is a pleasure to 'do business' with them.
If you are thinking of being a host, do try it...you have a lot of fun, I enjoy the caring for some of the older ones as well as running round with the young ones, without the responsibility of having your own animal. Posted by Sue and Paul Allcroft"

"Due to health issues I am unable to have a dog of my own. Being a host for barking mad means I can have the company and pleasure of a dog, for a period of time with out the resposibility and cost of owning a dog myself. It is nice to know that as a host I can enable owners to have a break safe in the knowledge that their dog is being cared for by someone whose aim it is to give the dog a holiday in a friendly loving enviorment."

"We are the lucky ones that get to look after your lovely dogs my family and i enjoy it because we get to meet so many different characters and they are all individual and whilst they are with us they are treated as part of our family. We love dogs but because of work commitments we can only host during the school holidays so we are always looking forward to our new guest arriving and we hope to be part of Barking Mad for a very long time."
Elaine and John provide the Barking Mad experience throughout Fife and Kinross. They cover right across the Kingdom from Star in the East to Rumbling Bridge in the West - if you live in KY1 to KY7 or KY11 to KY13 then they'll be more than happy to help you out.
Elaine is a dog lover at heart and growing up always had a family cocker spaniel. When she moved to her first home she had two Alsatians Jo & Jake, but it wasn't long before 2 became 15, when Jo had a litter of cheeky pups, that brought a lot of joy. Since then she has also owned two Border Collies - Riggs and Bex who were brothers that, when she went to the farm to see them, she couldn't bear to separate, so she came home with 2 dogs instead of one!
When the chance came to join Barking Mad in 2014, she simply couldn't say no – Elaine says “I’m proud to be part of a very professional team who are also passionate about dogs & delivering true first class service. I am dedicated to making sure that every dog has his (holi)day & all my hosts are true dog lovers who are just as passionate as me”.
Now she loves living just outside of Scotlandwell with her husband, gorgeous daughter, 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs, 2 rabbits & 4 super Springer Spaniels - Woody, Shadow, Bracken & Jazz and wee Willow the Cocker Spaniel - who all have boundless amounts of energy and love nothing more than romping over Bishop Hill, up East Lomond or round Loch Leven.
John shares Elaine’s passion for pooches and he also grew up with a family cocker spaniel. At the start of 2016 he took the opportunity to become Elaine’s Barking Mad partner, as he says “it’s great that we share a love of dogs and have the chance to work together to make sure we deliver the best possible experience for every dog who holidays with us and for all our amazing hosts”.
If you’d like to have a chat about the Barking Mad service in Fife and Kinross, please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 01592 841064.
Whilst my wife and I enjoyed a well earned holiday in the sun our wee boy had a fabulous time with his "holiday" family and their lovely Lab. We got lots of photos and videos of him having a fab time and when he finally came back to us he sulked for a day missing his new best pals....
I would definitely rate these guys and trust them to look after your beloved mutt and will use them a gain in the future although for now we are happy to give him lots of hugs and love now he home with us :)

First time my border collie has had to use kennels, looked on the net usual thing, read reviews as any responsible owner would do, did not have an instant "feel good factor".
Saw by chance and thought that`s a catchy name for a kennel, how wrong was I, it`s a fantastic one to one fun filled holiday for mans best friend, living in a house with dog loving, like minded hosts giving, and treating your dog better than one of the family.
The attention to detail given by Elaine even prior to collecting Tess (yes door to door service) was first class, and I new Tess was in good hands.
On return Tess was in first class condition, clearly had a whale of a time, and none the worse for, or even better for her experience.
All I can say is, your dog loves you and trusts you, therefore YOU would be BARKING MAD to send them anywhere else.
100% honest feedback
Fantastic service and will definitely use again!! Alfie was happy, calm and settled when he returned from jenny's. Elaine kept us informed at every step. First time using barking mad but certainly not the last. ????????????????
Absolutely delighted be the care and communication given by Elaine. Jenny looked after Alfie so well and he was so calm and happy when he returned home
Would definitely recommend for anyone worried about leaving their "baby" when on their hols. Posted by Dianne
I tried barking mad for the first time last weekend. I was a bit apprehensive at first but Elaine managed to put us at ease. While we were away Elaine sent us updates and photos to let us know how the dogs were getting which helped to let us know that they were both happy. When the dogs were brought home they wanted to go away with Elaine again so they obviously enjoyed their holiday as well. I wouldn't hesitate using this service again.
This is the first time I have used Barking Mad.It was very last minute. Was very impressed to the attention of detail. A very professional service from start to finish. We were nervous about leaving our dog Cooper but Elaine is totally committed to providing the best possible care for your pet. Would highly recommend.Thank you Norma and Lindsay for looking after our boy.
This was the first time we have used barking mad and We cannot rate the service We received highly enough.
It is very professionally run, but at the same time so personal and friendly. We loved the photos and little updates whilst we were away.
We have two quite boisterous labs and they were so well looked after.
We will certainly be using barking mad again when we have to go away without the dogs.
Thank you to all concerned.
A very professional service from start to finish. We were nervous about leaving our elderly retriever with another family but needn't have worried. Elaine is totally committed to providing the best possible care for your pet. Would highly recommend.
Lucy is an older 'girlie' and I was concerned about putting her into kennels. Barking Mad was the perfect alternative. Her hosts took great care to provide her with a 'home from home' where she became friends with all of the local dogs.
Elaine provided the right balance of a professional but caring service from the start and I was able to go off on holiday confident that Lucy was in good hands and enjoying her holiday too. Communication was excellent throughout the time Lucy was with her hosts with photos and a postcard on her return.
I would definitely recommend this service to other dog owners.
I can really only copy the comments of the last reviewer who said: "First time for us and Elaine completely put us at ease. Our little 'puppy boy' left happy and came home happy".
While describing ours as a "puppy boy" (he's aged 14) may not be entirely accurate, the rest of the comment describes our experience absolutely. Many thanks Elaine and I highly commend your services to all fellow doglovers.
It looked like Minnie enjoyed her holiday (as you saw when she came home). Will be happy to use your service again and recommend you to our friends who have dogs.

This was Jenny,s first experience of Barking Mad.She is elderly a bit frail and gets very anxious at kennels. She came back very happy after her Barking Mad stay.It was nice getting feedback from Elaine about her when we were away.We will use them again
This was our first time using Barking Mad and we were pleased with all aspects of the service. Elaine is professional but approachable and very understanding of the dogs needs. Alfie went willingly (liver treats maybe swung it) and after his week away, came home healthy and happy! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Barking Mad to any owner who wants their dog to be looked after, as well as you would yourself. A big thank you to Lynne,Alan and Emma for welcoming Alfie into their home.
Monty has been looked after by Barking Mad whenever we go on holiday for about 3 years now. We have always found them extremely accommodating to both ours, and our dogs needs. Elaine is extremely professional (as was the previous team), and is an absolute pleasure to deal with. I wouldn't take our beloved boy anywhere else. Posted by Jean
I would thoroughly recommend Elaine and Barking Mad. Our 4 week trip to Australia was enjoyed all the more for knowing that Rosa and Sasha were being well cared for back home. The regular communication from Elaine and photos were greatly appreciated. Elaine runs a very professional service and is an obvious dog lover! She is quite meticulous in the detail she goes to to get to know your dogs giving us great confidence that they were going to be well cared for. Thanks to Margaret and Tony for looking after the girls and for allowing them to try and dig to Australia - hope they didn't do too much damage!
No plans for another holiday at the moment but will definitely use Barking Mad again!
Thank you Elaine
we had a wonderful holiday knowing that Blue was having a great time too. The photo's and video you sent put our mind at ease. Thank you Lynne Alan and Emma for looking after Blue so well we very much appreciate it. Will definitely recommend and use Barking mad again.
We left mitzi in the care of Brenda and Ben whilst we were sunning it up in Majorca .. We were able to relax and enjoy our holiday knowing she was being looked after really well . She's home and wouldn't even know she had been away . Settled back into her daily routine great . It's an amazing service that Elaine runs, worth every penny knowing that your dog is well looked after . Will definitely use the service again . Hopefully soon xx well done Brenda and Ben ..
Barking Mad Fife provided a great holiday for my dog and gave me peace of mind. Marlene and Dave did a superb job of caring for coco and Elaine provided brilliant updates and co-ordinated his stay wonderfully. Very happy with this excellent service. Many thanks x Posted by Hazel
Great service. My boys had a great time and came back happy. Good communication as well. Will certainly use again
Shyloh's second time in boarding with Elaine and once again she excelled. I had to change times and dates twice, but nothing was too much trouble, Elaine was extremely accommodating. We went away with total peace of mind knowing that Shyloh was once again happy with his Barking Mad family. Thank you Elaine.xxx
Another happy holiday for Guthrie with his Barking Mad family. Thanks for the great care and peace of mind for us.
Until next time---- xxxxx
Our cavalier went on holiday with Barking Mad in July and it was faultless. She had a great holiday and was so well looked after. We had peace of mind and updates which was great for us to know she was having a super time. We would not hesitate to use again or recommend. Thank you x
We are first time dog owners and knew that we wanted a lovely safe home for our dog during our holidays. Elaine came and visited us and met Ellie. She arranged a lovely couple to take Ellie on "holiday". We tried an overnight stay - which went well - and settled our anxieties!.
We received photos of Ellie enjoying herself on her holidays, and a lovely postcard. Ellie seemed to thoroughly enjoy herself.
Have recommended Barking Mad to family and friends.
Just wanted to say a huge thank you for organising Molly's holiday for us - she had a great time! We were a bit nervous about leaving her as she is so young but the photos and videos put us at ease and reassured us she was having a ball. The kids also loved having bracken jnr to take away with them - lovely touch and really helped! Molly is looking forward to her next holiday already. Thank you, Gill and Molly x
This is the 3rd time I have used Barking Mad, and once again they excelled themselves. Auntie Shelly and her wee pooch made Archie very welcome into her home. Lovely to have the peace of mind knowing your pooch is being well cared for. I would have no hesitation in recommending Barking Mad to everyone.

This is the first time I have used Barking Mad as have just moved back to the area. It was very last minute. Was very impressed to the attention of detail and our year and a half year old Westie ( Ruby ) had a great time with Shelly and Shyloh. Wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Thanks for the excellent care given to Roxy from Marlene & Dave. I have no doubt she had them wrapped round all her paws ! It is great to know your pet is so well cared for. Thanks also to Elaine for all her help with everything and keeping me posted about Roxy when I was away.
Rocco went away with Barking Mad for 9 days. What a great time he had! He was more than looked after by great hosts David and Isla. Elaine, who went the extra mile for us, was fab, she's 1 in a million and great at her job. I would recommend her to anyone with a pet. Rocco will definitely be on holiday again. Thanks so much

Great reassurance for us to know your dog is getting the care you want them to have. Would recommend Barking Mad to all my friends. The daily updates and photos and brilliant!!
I was really worried when we were going on holiday as we lost our doggie sitter. We thought about kennels but had a bad experience before. So my husband went on the Internet and found Barking Mad so we thought we would give it a try. The service we got was so friendly and professional. They listen to everything you have to say about your pet, its behaviour, any medical problems etc and write it all down and put it in your pets file. We got photos and a video when we were away which was so reassuring. When we got him home he was such a happy wee chap. I would highly recommend their service its second to none. Well done the Barking Mad Crew. Posted by Betty Low
wonderfull, friendly and reassuring. Would recommend barking mad to anyone & everyone. After an awful experience with dog kennels I would never consider using them again, especially after finding barking mad, Elaine & Stuart!! Thanks again from me & Maddy!!

It really does make your holiday so much more relaxing when you are firm in the knowledge that your much loved dogs are settled and relaxed in their holiday home, having received photos and videos showing them relaxed and happy in their environment.
We cannot fault Elaine of Barking Mad Fife who went above and beyond the call of duty by not only visiting our dogs in their home but also coming on a walk with them to get a complete picture of their personalities and routines. One of our dogs has previously returned from boarding quite upset with us and didn't "speak" to us for a couple of days, as if he was in the huff with us for leaving him to go on holiday. We had none of this after his Barking Mad holiday - both our dogs were in great condition and were their usual happy selves when they returned to us. We feel so much more comfortable about our next holiday!
We were a bit apprehensive before booking as Lewis was going away on his own for the first time, he had always been with his brother Harry but sadly he's no longer with us. But we had no reason to worry, Elaine put us at ease straight away and the hosts Tom and Jean were brilliant and it turned out they had looked after both boys before. He obviously had a great holiday and came back home a very happy boy. We also appreciated the messages and photo we got sent whilst on holiday and the photo and postcard on his return. Thanks so much Elaine your doing a great job and we look forward to our next trip away.
The service we have received has been very good and Millie came home to us looking very well.
It was obvious from the way Millie was she has had a good time and been well looked after.
This was substantiated by the photo and video Elaine had for us.
Thanks to Elaine for her help in looking after Rosy last week. It was great to get a phone call a couple of days before to confirm pick up times and to get a video sent which put our minds at rest that Rosy had settled in well. It is also much better that I can pay my bill by balance transfer rather than having to write out a cheque. Great service and Rosy came back looking really well.
Megan has now had 6 long holidays with the same BM family. She trots off to the BM car without a backward glance, much to our disappointment. We get regular reports about how she's getting on when we're away and when she comes back she always looks good and well cared for. Alison's after holiday report makes it very clear how much she cares for Megan. Although we have never met we regard Alison as a friend. We cannot speak too highly of her and Elaine. We would never dream of leaving her with anyone else.
Darcy our Golden Retriever has been going to stay with the lovely Carol for the last 3 years, it's her home from home and she always comes back looking fit and healthy. We never have to worry about her while we are away which is such a blessing. Thanks Elaine for all your hard work!!

I would like to say how at ease I felt over our wedding weekend knowing our Scamp and Jock were in good hands. They came back extremely happy and healthy looking.
The whole process from registering through to completing our booking was painless. At the end of the day we want to know our dogs are going to be placed with the right foster parents and enjoy their stay.
I would totally recommend Barking Mad to anyone. We are looking forward to setting up dates for them to go on their next holiday!!

We never worry about our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Leah, when we go on holiday. When she's picked up she's always keen to get in the back of the car and have a sniff about. When she comes home, she's always pleased to be back but you can tell that she's been loved just as much at her "holiday home" as she is with us.
Thanks for doing a great job of finding such a good host for Logie - we can see how much you love dogs when you come to pick him up !
We are delighted to recommend Elaine to anyone looking for the very best for their dog when they go on hols !
Peter and Fiona
Taz enjoyed his 2 week holiday with Barking Mad he came back his usual happy self. We also enjoyed our holiday knowing that Taz was well looked after. He will be back next year.
Highly recommend Barking Mad. Coco and Lola had a lovely few days with their host family. They were well looked after and settled in great, and we had total peace of mind that they were getting lots of cuddles and attention. They are booked in again for June, would not put them anywhere else.
Thanks Elaine fab service.

REMY had a great holiday with barking mad
he was well chilled out sleeping on the sofa etc
Elaine has it well worked out to look after dogs
we will take him back
Always happy with the excellent care and attention plus the re-assurance that our dog is well looked after - always comes back a 'happy chappy'
Poppy has had yet another super holiday. This worked out longer than expected as we came back from our holiday to find out we had to go to a funeral down south.Elaine went out of her way to accommodate Poppy and she spent an extra week with new foster carers .Thankyou from Poppy for making her hoiday so comfortable At 14 years old and on medication this could have proved difficult but she has come home healthy and chilled .Think I will turn into a dog and hope to get similar results .We will definitely be using you again It is so good to be able to relax and know your loved ones are being taken care of
Rosie & Cassie had a lovely weekend away with Barking Mad. It seemed to be very chilled with lots of attention & cuddles. I would have no hesitation in using them again when we are away on holiday.
Holly spent a weekend with Joyce. She came back raving about how well she had been looked after and how much she had enjoyed herself. Unfortunately she had a wee fit while she was away and we cannot praise Joyce and Elaine enough with the care she received. She made a full recovery by the time she came home. I will definitely be using Barking Mad in the future. We have lots of trips out to my place in Portugal and will be very happy knowing she will be well taken care of.
Archie's holiday with Joyce was a great success. We know that because he just strolled in quite relaxed, obviously very happy with his experience. He was looking good too and had been very well cared for.
For us it gave us peace of mind knowing Archie was in a loving and caring place while we were in Australia.
Thanks so much we will definitely use you again.
we have used Barking Mad services for several years now, with all our dogs, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them! A massive thank you to our hosts for taking such good care of our furbabies on their holidays. They have clearly thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and are looking forward to their next visit!
My standard poodle Libby just loves her holidays with barking mad host families. Your requirements are always taken into account such as once after an operation Libby needed to be kept quiet and so visited another host home for that holiday. She goes off without a second glance and comes back just the same as she went. I would recommend barking mad to anyone.
Our dog Decland has now had around 3 holidays with hosts with Barking Mad, and before we were recommended to Barking Mad we had many people who looked after him, we did not have piece of mind and it ended up in a disaster.
We cant thank Barking Mad enough for the time that was spent on seeing to Decland's ever need and keeping him to his routine.
He has just come back from host's in Fife and I can tell he has been well looked after and spoiled, Thank you so much.
Also thanks Elaine for making sure everything was in place, you are doing a fantastic job.

Cal is a well loved family pet who we would not give to anyone to look after unless we felt that he was 100% taken care of in the same way he would be at home and this is why we use Barking Mad. We can go away knowing that Cal is being well looked after and enjoy our family holiday without being concerned about his welfare. I would highly recommend Barking Mad to anyone.
Sasha is a rescue dog and can't go to kennels because of her previous experience. We therefore had to look for an alternative when we were going on holiday. We found Barking Mad and Sasha has enjoyed many holidays with them over the last six years. She now waits impatiently at the front door on collection day, eager to be off!
Not only do Barking Mad and their hosts take care of Sasha as if she was their own, they have also got to know us. They are exceptionally friendly, completely professional and an important part of our lives. I would highly recommend Barking Mad to all dog owners.

This is the second time that our Dog Milo has been with Barking Mad.
We take comfort that he is in good hands and that both Barking Mad and the hosts ensure our dog enjoys his vacation whilst we are on ours.
Isaac & Maryann.
My dog Maggie had her first Barking Mad holiday recently. The initial meeting to get to know her lasted for over an hour and the detail which was taken about her habits / likes etc was reassuring.
This was the first time she had been away with anyone other than family and I expected to worry about her but didnt! I was kept up to date with emails and photos (in which she looked happy and relaxed!).
I will definitely use Barking Mad again and would recommend them to anyone.
Lynne and Maggie.
Thank you for looking after our frisky puppies Candy and Sonny so well. My husband and I were really impressed with the service.
It’s amazing that this month we celebrated our 3rd Anniversary of running Barking Mad here in Fife and Kinross. We have hosts from the Crook of Devon all the way across to East Wemyss and we were delighted that they took the time out to join us and celebrate with a wee BBQ – we were even joined by Dave & Gordon who were both out on holiday. We are so grateful to our hosts and the trouble they always take to make sure the doggies they are look after have an amazing time. So a BIG thankyou and here’s to the next 3 years.
After our Remembrance Walk back in April so many people said they’d loved to have joined us but sadly couldn’t make it so we’ve decided to launch “Canine Capers & Cakes”. This is a quarterly walk where everyone is welcome and our first one took place this month at Leven Beach where we had 32 doggies tearing up the beach and having an amazing time. It was great to see so many having a wonderful time and not a single squabble amongst them. And it was nice to be joined by so many of our lovely customers who delighted to meet some our hosts for the very first time… next walk will be on the 26th November and we do hope you will be able to join us even if it is a wee bit chilly!
If it’s July this can mean only one thing – school holidays! And it’s been a very busy year for us but lovely to see so many furry friends old & new out with enjoying fabulous holidays with our fantastic hosts. It was great to see so many being able to join us at 2nd Chance Kennels annual fund raising event, Bark in the Park, at Loch Ore Meadows near Lochgelly. It’s a great day out for everyone – two legged and four legged! This year we raised an amazing £134 for the charity selling the great craft work done by the Barking Mad Hatters as well as liver treats and a “Guess my Name” competition.
At this month’s Dugs & Mugs walk we took the chance to celebrate John’s birthday – what better way than a windy beach, lots of four legged furbies tearing around… and of course cake!
We are delighted to say that we sponsored the Best Family Class at Fife Greyhound Rescue’s 10th Annual Show and we also had a stand there selling items made by our Barking Mad Hatters club. The day was a great success for them and they managed to raise over £2,500 which is amazing – if you think that £10 will feed 5 dogs for a week you can see how important this even is to keep them looking after the poor doggies in need of a forever home. If you want to find out more visit them at http://www.greyhoundrescuefife.com/
And another very proud moment for us was winning “Most Improved Business” at the annual Barking Mad Conference. We’d like to take the chance to thank all of our wonderful hosts who do such an amazing job looking after the doggies and helping us ensure that we deliver a 5 star service – thank you.
There was also a 3rd celebration this month as we took the chance at our Dugs & Mugs walk at Pettycur Bay, Kinghorn to sing Happy Birthday to one of our special hosts who was celebrating a special birthday. It might have been a wee bit damp but that didn’t dampen our spirits and we had a wonderful time.
To mark Dog Remembrance Month we opened up our monthly Dugs & Mugs to anyone & everyone who wanted to join us at Leven Beach for a walk. It was a chance for people to reflect on doggies who are no longer with us but who have brought us so much joy and left so many paw prints on our hearts. For the doggies who joined us it was a chance for them to have a great run around, playing in the surf and chasing balls across the sand. Afterwards we had a great gossip with a cuppa and a slice of cake – Elaine had been busy baking the day before!
Even with a busy start to the year we’ve launched our new host craft club – Barking Mad Hatters… why? Well last year sadly one of hosts passed away very suddenly and his wife was understandably at a complete loss. As she would no longer be able to host she was also sadden by the thought of no longer being part of the Barking Mad Family. You don’t get away that easily we said… what else do you love to do? Knitting was the answer and so the Barking Mad Hatters craft club was born. We meet once a month at Rejects in Kirkcaldy to have a coffee, share ideas and give each other any help that’s needed. Anything that is made by the club will be sold in aid of our chosen two local charities – 2nd Chance Kennels, based in Thornton, and Fife Greyhound Rescue
What happened to Christmas? It seems to have flown by but we started our festivities in the best way possible – hosting a wee party to say a BIG thank you to all our wonderful hosts. We had a great afternoon and it was a real pleasure to hear them all chatting away about the lovely doggies they had been looking after and the fun and happiness it brings them.
We both believe that doggies know when they are being looked after by someone who really cares and that’s true for all our hosts. They all love dogs which is why your four legged best friend always come home so relaxed and happy… it’s also why we continue to get so many 5 star reviews from our customers. We love to hear how pleased our customers are and our hosts love to know that they truly are appreciated.
It’s that time of year again where for most of us it’s a time of celebration, catching up with family and friends and having fun. However for some it can be lonely time… fortunately here at Barking Mad we can make sure you are never lonely. Being a host and part of our community is not just about looking after doggies… it’s about being part of our wee Barking Mad family. We like to catch up with everyone for a natter, have coffee mornings, Dugs & Mugs walks and of course our Christmas Party. So if you fancy joining us or know someone who would then give us a call.
If you’re looking for a Christmas tree and fancy something a bit quirky then get your skates on and pop down to Portmoak Moss by Scotlandwell (on the A92 between Leslie and Kinross) on Sunday 11th December. You can pick your own tree and they’ll cut it down for you – trees are free but you can make a donation to Portmoak Community Woodland if you want. There are hot drinks and mince pies too.
We’d like to take this chance to wish all our customers and our special hosts a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
Well we had a fantastic summer and with being so busy with so many dogs coming out on holiday with us the months just flew by. Between July and August we drove over 2,300 miles with doggies and truly covered our area from Crook of Devon, down to Comrie and all along the coast through Dalgety Bay, Burntisland, Kirkcaldy and East Wemyss back up to Glenrothes and Kinross – we had doggies everywhere! It was great this month to catch up with our lovely hosts and treat them to breakfast cob and cuppa while we all swapped stories and shared photos of our four legged guests.
And if that wasn’t busy enough for us we were also joined by a new member to our wee clan – Willow. A gorgeous tri-colour Cocker Spaniel she has made herself right at home in our pack and has caused great amusement with our hosts.
A busy start to the summer…...
We were delighted to be invited to the inaugural Burntisland Dog Show and Elaine had a tough time judging the puppy class and the pedigree class with so many fabulous dogs in the ring. It was also great to see so many of you there and get a chance to have a wee chat & doggie cuddles
…Dugs & Mugs on a Sunday
You may have seen on Facebook pictures of your lovely pooch join us on one of our Sunday walks. Nicknamed “Dugs & Mugs” it’s a chance for hosts to join us for a walk with any holiday dogs and a wee cuppa afterwards - they’re always enjoyed by all and we’ve been to Lochore Meadows, up the hills from Pitcairn, Glenrothes and down the beach at Leven… we’re looking at organising a customer walk too so if you’re interested let us know.
BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our fabulous host Joyce…
We’d like to wish Joyce a massive happy birthday as she turns 80 this year. She is a wonderful host and has had over 50 doggies come and stay with her on holiday. We were lucky as she joined us for one of our walks and brought along a birthday cake she’d been given – of course it had dogs on it!
Bracken’s Bonus Winners
We have 3 more lucky doggies who have one double loyalty paw prints for their latest holidays, April’s winner is the adorable Sapper, May’s winner is the delightful Daisy and June’s the lovely Levi – congratulations to you all and can’t wait to see you all again.
Alzheimer Scotland inaugural “Walkies”
If you can’t make the Great British Dog Walk why not join us for the inaugural “Walkies” events being hosted by Alzheimer Scotland during Dementia Awareness week. It’s taking place at Lochore Meadows on Saturday 4th June starting at 9.30am… for more information click here.
More great walks to enjoy:
And keeping my New Years resolution to bring you walks I have two great places for you this month. The first I discovered recently and it starts at Pitcairn Centre, Glenrothes KY7 6ET where there’s good parking. From here you have a choice of routes, a gentle stroll round Coul Den reservoir to a more challenging hike that can take up the Lomonds (or as far as you like).
And the other great location is Devilla Forest Trail which is just off the A985 between Dunfermline and Kincardine – it’s well sign posted so you can’t miss the car park. There’s a network of forest roads and paths to explore and a great chance to see red squirrels in the Scots Pine trees – the Red Squirrel Trail is only just over a mile but there are 700ha to keep you going.
Fundraising Quiz Night for The Guide Dogs for the Blind
Why not join us at Gallagher’s in Kirkcaldy on the 29th April at 7.30pm where we’ll have a Barking Mad team taking part in the quiz. It will it be a great night supporting a great cause and also a chance to chat to our wonderful Barking Mad hosts. For information about the quiz and ticket availability please call Alison at The Guide Dogs on 07921 337939
And a great café too…
I’ve found a fabulous doggie friendly café in Kinghorn, The Barn at The Loch, thanks to my wonderful host Thora who’s been looking after the beautiful Bo for the last three months. It’s great having a cheeky latte and a blether whilst the pooch is curled up at your feet and if you’ve indulged in a slice of cake there’s plenty of paths to stroll around.
Winner of Bracken’s Bonus
March’s winner of Bracken’s Bonus is Max, who enjoys double loyalty points for his last holiday… well done Max – can’t wait to see you again.
Bracken’s Tip Bit
A lot of my customers ask what the treats are I use when I first meet their dogs or when I come to collect them as the doggies always love them – even those who are not normally food obsessed. The secret – they’re made by my husband for Bracken and his buddies. They really are very simple to make and only takes three ingredients:
Recipe – 500g lambs liver, 2tbsp dried parsley and 2tbsp dried mint. In a food mixer blitz the lamb’s liver until it is a paste and then mix in the dried parsley and mint. Take a sheet of grease proof paper, lay it on a baking tray and spread the mixture evenly to a thickness of approximately 3mm – 5mm. Then place it in an oven at 50c for approximately 10 hours and then turn over. Give it another couple of hours by which time the liver will be dried out but still soft. Now just cut into small pieces as a very tasty treat for you pooch.
The Great British Dog Walk on Behalf of Hearing Dogs for Deaf
A date for your diaries folks and also help support a very good cause. We’re very proud to supporting this very worthy cause and it’s a great day out for you and your doggie. You can choose from two beautiful routes, 3km or 8km, at one of Scotland’s finest Edwardian mansion houses. We look forward to seeing many of our wonderful customers and hosts there.

Recommend a friend and your dog receives a free day on their next holiday. Also if you know someone who would be a perfect Barking Mad host please let me know and again you will receive a free day for your dog if they sign up.
Well I can’t believe that 2015 has passed already and it’s been such an amazing year meeting so many wonderful doggies and seeing them have such fabulous holidays. To celebrate we had a wee Christmas party for hosts old and new – it was a great afternoon of swapping tales and having a laugh at some of the escapades that pooches get up to.
If you are interested in becoming a host then come and join us at Dobbies, Dalgety Bay for a coffee on 4th February… you can have a chat with fellow hosts and find out what it’s all about.
My resolution this year is to find and share dog friendly walks in Fife – some will be easy whilst others might be a bit more of an effort but all will guarantee a fun time for your dog. First up is Portmoak Moss, just beside Scotlandwell, and is a loop of approximately 1 mile on the flat. There’s a good path goes through woodland and round the peat bog which is being restored but if it’s been raining wear your wellies as there’ll be lots of puddles. Most days there’s a small herd of deer grazing in the middle and if you’re lucky you’ll see a red squirrel.
There’s space to park and would recommend you start your walk beside the stables - to find it on a map simply click here
September / October 2015
You learn something new every day working here…
Have you ever heard of the Thunder Shirt? It’s a coat for helping dogs to become calm when their either anxious, frightened or over excited. At a recent registration I was shown one in action on a retriever who was a young bouncy boy who was super excited to meet me – the calming effect though was instant. I’m always a bit sceptical about such products but was so impressed that I had to look into it more and I’m now getting one for Shadow my very own bouncy boy!
Why not join me on Facebook?
It’s official - I now have a new Facebook page… this is where you can see what doggies really get up to on their holidays with lots of photos and videos. It’s also where I’ll be posting special limited offers so to keep up to date with my latest news simply like the page – you can find it here
September’s winner is the very happy boy Korey the Springer who enjoyed an awesome holiday with his host Shyloh (the cute Shih Tzu) and October’s winners are the delightful duo Ruby & Coco who had a fabulous break in the country - both enjoy double loyalty points!
New service now available - Richard’s Holistic Pets
Some great news to share with you. One of my fabulous hosts Richard has started providing the complimentary therapy Animal Reiki in Burntisland. This therapy is used to help stressed or ill animals in conjunction with veterinary treatment and uses natural healing energy. If you want to find out more give him a call on 07548 035492.
Well officially that’s summer over and whilst the weather hasn’t been great here in Fife all our doggies have enjoyed a fabulous summer holiday… whether in the park, at the beach or in the garden they’ve all made the best of it and had wonderful time….
And it’s all down to my wonderful team of hosts who all just love looking after doggies… so as a wee thank you we enjoyed another high tea at Dalgety Bay and a good old blether. If you’re interested in becoming a host and want to find out more, just give me a call and we can have a wee chat.
We can’t forget Bracken’s Bonus… the winner this month is the amazing Poppy, who I think you’ll agree that age 17, is just adorable.
There’s been so much going on over the last couple of months here in Fife, it’s hard to decide what to share with you all. We’ve had lots of doggies enjoying their summer holidays with us, despite the weather, whilst you’ve all been off having your own fun in the sun. Before we hit our busiest time of the year, I took the opportunity to spoil my hosts with a wee ‘afternoon tea’ treat. We all had a lovely time at Dobbies in Dalgety Bay, sharing our dog stories and just enjoying the company of so many dog loving friends.
We’ve recently had a fantastic weekend supporting Second Chance Kennels at ‘Bark in the Park 2015’, Lochore Meadows. What an amazing turn out this year and thankfully the rain held off for us. As well as donating a Barking Mad Hamper, we also raised further cash for a great cause with our ‘Blue Dog’ by guessing his birthday. We were also joined by lots of customers, hosts and ‘holiday dogs’, a wee hello got them 6 loyalty points on their cards. It really was a great opportunity to meet so many lovely dogs and their owners who came and had a chat our stall.
Bracken’s Bonus is also going down a treat…………Bernard, Stimpy and our family trio of boys Finn, Ozzy and Jake have all earned double loyalty points for their holidays over the last few months. So many customers are enjoying that extra free day.
Exciting piece of news to share about Bracken’s Bonus – can you believe April marked 6 months already? To celebrate Bracken decided that we should not have 1, not even 2 but that we needed to have 3 lucky winners. So those lucky pooches who won double loyalty paw points are:
2. Archie & Bramble
Whilst Bracken was picking his winners Bracken Junior enjoyed a wee holiday with the McHale family in Tenerife making sure the kids didn’t forget about Charlie & Daisy who were enjoying their holiday too.
And a date for the diary – Sunday 26th July is “Bark in the Park” at Lochore Meadows, Lochgelly. It’s a real fun day with lots to do and see. There are stalls, raffles and competitions for everyone young and old to enjoy as well as a chance to see lots of doggies of all shapes and sizes. So come along and show your support for Second Chance Kennels and when you do don’t be a stranger – come and say hello as we’ll have a stand there.
Finally, do you know a dog friendly café or pub in your area that would like a tub of doggie biscuits to share with our canine friends? If you do let me know and I’ll pop by with a tub... after all if you’re enjoying a pie and a pint your friend will enjoy a bowl and a biscuit. You’ll already find tubs in the following places:
The Well Country Inn, Scotlandwell
The Muirs Inn, Kinross
The Wemyss Central Hotel, East Wemyss
The Rustic Dog, Blairhall
