September & October 2017
Well the leaves are falling and the nights are drawing in but we are still very busy here with lots of doggies having late summer holidays. The weather has been surprisingly mild and some of our holiday guests have had a wonderful time on the beach with their hosts. I even managed to fit in a visit with my Tetley & Luna.
One of our lovely customers got married in September and as she had met her husband-to-be while walking their dogs it was only fitting that the dogs were part of their big day. I was more than happy to oblige when she asked if the dogs could be brought to the church for photos, what a lovely family they make.
As the end of October draws near I know a lot of owners will be anxiously waiting for November 5th and the never ending nights of fireworks. If your dog gets stressed by fireworks please check out the Blue Cross website for tips on how to cope.
July & August 2017
Phew we have just about survived the busy summer period and as it draws to an end I would like to thank my wonderful hosts for accommodating all the lovely doggies who have had holidays these last 2 months.
Here are a few who have had a great summer holiday with us.
We said a sad farewell to Brisbane this summer, she has been a Barking Mad customer for 2 years having arrived from the USA with her family when they moved here for Brandon's work. However promotion beckoned and they have now moved to Germany, I send my best wishes to Brandon, Emily and the boys. Below is an extract from an email I received from them now they are settled in Germany.
Thanks for the note! We just got our internet hooked up last night, so we now can function a bit more normally. We are starting to try to get our feet under us and start figuring out where things are and finding our way around. The boys started school on Tuesday, so today is day 3 and they are doing pretty well considering all the change! So fingers crossed things keep going well.
It truly was a pleasure having you and such lovely hosts to watch Brisbane while we were on holiday. It just made traveling so much easier and carefree, knowing she was in good hands. We will miss all of you! I am not sure that we will be able to find anything quite as grand here in Germany, but hopefully we can find something that works.
Well summer is well and truly here, we have had some very hot days during the past month and our doggy holiday makers have been doing their best to keep cool ..... with the help of our wonderful hosts.
Miko was on an extended holiday with Luke and Vicky. He enjoyed swimming in the river and the sea, he had fun in the padding pool and even lay in the bath to cool down.
If you would like to find out more about keeping your dogs cool through the summer months then check out the Blue Cross website here.
I had a great day at the beginning on June at the Great North Dog Walk in South Shields. I teamed up with my colleagues, Sue, Karen and Valarie and together we enjoyed meeting many of the 22,000 dogs who participated in this great charity event. Guess who turned up and took part in the walk ... Miko! and he had a great time.
If you want to take part in this event next year, it will take place on Sunday 3rd June 2018 http://www.greatnorthdogwalk.co.uk/
May has been an extremely busy month ...... I was invited to talk at a local group, The First Friday Friends Group in Norton, Stockton on Tees. Myself and my host Jo, along with 2 of our four legged holiday makers had a lovely afternoon and the members were keen to hear how Barking Mad worked and what being a host entailed. The afternoon was a great success.
I also attended the annual Barking Mad conference. This is always a fantastic event and it was made even more special this year as I won an award for Most Improved Business. This was a great surprise and I would like to thank all my lovely customers and amazing hosts for helping me achieve this.
The month ended supporting a local charity at the Stray Aid yearly dog show at Hardwick Park, Sedgefield. We were blessed with sunshine all day and there was a great turnout. What a great day.
As the Teesside, Cleveland & Darlington branch continues to grow I have been joined by Geoff who will assist me with driving, transporting all our lovely customers to and from their holiday destinations. Geoff has been a customer of Barking Mad for the past year and a half, he is retired from his full time work and when he heard I was looking for an assistant he expressed an interest.
Geoff has been training with me since January and completed the training workshop at Head Office in February. He is now looking forward to meeting everyone over the coming months.
Spring is here and the sun is shining, well for today (I hear there is snow forecast for tomorrow).
At least we had a lovely sunny day when I attended a local dog show and charity walk in aid of St. Cuthbert's Hospice earlier this month.
It was held at Riverside Park, Chester le Street and I was there supporting my colleagues Karen Buckham (Durham) and Sue Seward (Washington, South & North Tyneside).
It was a fabulous day and very well attended by lots of lovely doggies and their owners. Here are a few pictures of the day.
At the beginning of the month a new café called The Doggie Diner opened in Blackhall Colliery. I popped in with a friend and my dog Millie to check it out.
We were all very impressed, they have a very good human menu and lots of treats for the dogs, Millie loved the ice cream cookie. It is a great idea and I wish Sue & Dave good luck with their new venture. http://doggiediner.co.uk/
Dreams Take Flight With Big Competition Win!
Emma McAfee of Darlington was blown away to be announced a winner of a Virgin Balloon Flight, in a national free prize draw!
The chance to see beautiful Britain from a totally amazing new perspective, was offered by local 5* dog holiday specialists, Barking Mad (Teesside, Cleveland & Darlington) in a very exciting and uplifting competition. The big question now is who Emma will invite to ‘come fly with me!’
Emma who works as a dog groomer at Canine Creations in Darlington entered the competition while attending a charity dog walk at Hardwick Country Park in Sedgefield. She lives with her parents and their 4 dogs, Summer, Alfie, Jasmine and Tino. Dad Rob was especially pleased as a balloon flight was something he had always wanted to do and he will be delighted to accompany Emma on this very special day.
Tracy Johnston of Barking Mad said:
“We are so excited to announce a winner for this experience of a lifetime! It was lovely meeting Emma and her family and a pleasure to present them with their prize. I hope they have a fabulous day.
Emma is the lucky winner of a luxury hamper which includes two tickets for a Virgin Balloon flight and champagne and chocolates to celebrate the occasion.
A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my customers, hosts and visitors to this page from myself and Luna, Millie & Tetley.
2016 has been a great year for myself and Barking Mad Teesside, Cleveland & Darlington. The business continues to grow thanks to the great work my host families do and the amazing Trustpilot reviews off my lovely customers. I hope you all have a fabulous festive time and I look forward to welcoming everyone into 2017.
MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR
We had a great turnout at The Place in the Park coffee shop for our annual Host Christmas Party. It has been another busy year and I couldn't do without these wonderful people who welcome the Barking Mad dogs into their homes.
We had a lovely buffet lunch and it was great to see everyone chatting about the various dogs they have welcomed over the past year and comparing stories, the photo board was a great focal point as they all looked for their favourites.
A great big thank you to everyone who came and also to those who couldn't make it. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
My host families are always spreading the word about becoming a host family as I always need more hosts.
If you are interested in becoming a host or know someone who fits the bill perfectly, please contact me on 01429 860846 or email me on firstname.lastname@example.org
Because we are growing, we are looking for a driver to help us take friendly dogs to and from their holiday home in one of our fully equipped, insured cars.
This is a flexible self employed opportunity and hours vary because of the nature of the business and will include evenings and weekends. Shift length could be 2-8 hours. My base is Hartlepool, Cleveland so all staff are required to come here to collect the car and paperwork before the start of their shift.
Must have excellent customer service skills, a clean UK driving license held for at least 3 years.
Most importantly you must be crazy about dogs!
If you would like more information please email email@example.com
Wow the summer holidays are drawing to an end and it has been a very busy time. We have had lots of regular customers coming back to stay with their favourite hosts and many new doggies signing up for their first Barking Mad holidays and everyone has had a great time.
Here are just a few of our summer visitors.
Kermit Benji & Smudge
I have welcomed some new host families this summer too, Hanna & Tony, Ann & Karen, Carole & David, Jean & Ken and Sylvia - I look forward to bringing you some lovely four legged friends to stay, I am sure you will all become firm favourites.
A Bark in Hardwick Park
I will be supporting Strayaid on Sunday 28th August. They are holding a Bark in Hardwick Park which is a sponsored dog walk and fun dog show and they are expecting a good turnout. It is being held at Hardwick Country Park, Sedgefield and it starts at 10 am. Please check out the link below for more information. Please say hello, I look forward to seeing everyone at this great event.
June has been a very busy month and it has flown by. I have met lots of lovely new dogs and their owners, all looking forward to their first Barking Mad holidays this summer.
I exhibited at two shows this month in Sedgefield, the first one was organised by StrayAid and the second one was to raise funds for Butterwick Hospice. Both were a great success with lots of dogs turning up for the show and dog walk.
It is nice to see the weather warming up as at the beginning of the month I did a walking challenge with a friend (she had to complete 15,000 steps in a day) so we decided to tackle Roseberry Topping. As you can see it wasn't the warmest of days and it was blowing a gale at the top but we smashed her challenge, completing over 22,000 steps and we had a great day despite the weather.
In between collecting and delivery dogs, the Barking Mad car went on an epic journey to Plymouth and back, a total of nearly 800 miles in two days. I was on my twice yearly trip to collect my son from university and the car was full to capacity with his belongings ..... no room for doggies that day, but at least the sun was shining.
In April the Barking Mad annual conference is held at the Lakeside Hotel, Windermere .... it is a great opportunity for everyone to get together to discuss the events of the previous year and to plan for the coming 12 months. It is also a great social event and an opportunity to catch up with colleagues from elsewhere in the country, this year there were quite a few new faces which is great as the company continues to grow.
I was honoured to be presented with an award this year - The National Social Media Award 2016. Here I am with Lee Dancy receiving my award. If you haven't already, then please do check out my Facebook page https://business.facebook.com/BarkingMadDogCareCleveland/

Stray Aid Gala Day and Dog Show at Sedgefield Racecourse, TS21 2HW
Why don't you come along to this ever-popular Gala Day and Dog Show. This year at has moved to Sedgefield Racecourse to allow for a Companion Dog Show ring to be added to the day. This is in addition to the Fun Dog Show, fairground rides, face painting, stalls etc. The amazing Pugility (yes, it IS Pugs doing agility! Fantastic to watch!) The Stray Aid rescue dogs need your support. Saturday 28th May, judging starts at 11am, entries admitted from 10am. Come along and look out for me on my Barking Mad stand.
Happy 'Barking Mad' Anniversary!
My hosts, Pamela & Pete have just celebrated 1 year of hosting with Barking Mad. During the past year they have hosted nearly 20 different dogs for me, many who have returned for repeat holidays. Hosting for Barking Mad is perfect for Pamela & Pete, who are without a dog since their Dalmatian passed away a few years ago. Hosting is flexible, they let me know when they are available and I in turn match them to the most suitable dogs that fit with their lifestyles. Pamela & Pete love all different breeds and love to go out walking to the beach or the local woods with their visiting guests.
Would you like to be a host for Barking Mad?
Being a host means you have all the enjoyment of looking after a dog without the fulltime financial and emotional commitment. You have full support from myself at all times. I deliver the dog to you with all their belongings, bed, toys, food etc. If the dog becomes unwell during their holiday and needs to visit the vets, I take full responsibility for this and ensure the dog is treated appropriately and goes to the vets. All you need to supply is an abundance of cuddles and lovely walks.
I always need more lovely hosts, if you or someone you know:-
• Recently lost your own dog and miss the cuddles, companionship and exercise of your beloved furry friend.?
• Are you retired, working from home or maybe a Teacher who would be free to have dogs during school holidays?
• Do you need more exercise?
• Are you lonely and miss the social interaction that comes with owning a dog?
• Do you already have a dog that would love a playmate to visit?
If you are interested or know someone who fits the bill perfectly, please give me a call on 01429 860846 or email me on firstname.lastname@example.org
Prize Draw Winner!
In January all customers who booked a dog holiday (and a few who had already booked well ahead) were entered in a free prize draw to win complimentary transport on their booking. I'm pleased to announce that the winners were the owners of little Maxie, seen here.
Maxie is a regular and loves to stay with Pamela & Pete or Felicity when on her Barking Mad holidays. Her owner was delighted to receive the news and we look forward to seeing Maxie in March.
Another regular, Bonnie has just enjoyed a week long holiday. The weather was particularly wet that week but as you can see that didn't stop Bonnie having a fabulous time. He was back to his pristine self when he went home of course, big thanks to Ann who tackled the challenge of daily muddy paws brilliantly.
Happy New Year. I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year. I did, it was nice to chill out with family and friends and catch up with all the news. It wasn't all relaxing in front of the fire though, there were quite a few dogs spending the festive period with Barking Mad so there was lots of collections and deliveries to be done.
One dog who had a very special holiday was Bobby - he not only celebrated Christmas and New Year with hosts Pamela & Pete, but also his birthday and they made sure he was centre of attention the whole time.
His hosts even took a video of him opening his birthday present! Click here to watch it!
January is proving to be a busy month with customers booking holidays early to make sure they get their dogs favourite host, so don't forget as soon as you book your holiday then please get in touch.
Recommend a friend and your dog receives a free day on their next holiday. Also if you know someone who would be a perfect Barking Mad host please let me know and again you will receive a free day for your dog if they sign up.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
I would like to wish all my lovely hosts and customers a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year! I would especially like to thank all my fantastic hosts and customers for their loyalty which has enabled me to make the Teesside, Cleveland & Darlington branch of Barking Mad such a success. I look forward to seeing you all next year. Here's to another successful Barking Mad Year!
As 2015 comes to an end I hope you are all organised for Christmas. Please remember, do not leave your booking for next year until the last minute, especially if your dog has a favourite host. We are filling up fast for next year so get in touch as soon as you know your dates.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
With Christmas and the New Year fast approaching what better way to round off the year than with a THANK YOU party for all my amazing hosts. This was a great success, so many hosts turned up and it was lovely to hear them share stories of the dogs they had had to stay. Many of them said how lovely it was to meet the other hosts and put faces to the names of the people I'm always talking about. I think some of them will keep in touch with each.
The Hartlepool Mail photographer turned up and took some great photos, they plan on running an article on how hosting for Barking Mad can help combat loneliness.
I held this years party in The Place in the Park café, Ward Jackson Park, Hartlepool. The buffet was amazing, thank you Maria for helping make this day a great success.
From little to large, old and young, Barking Mad can accommodate your dog. All your dogs have different needs and requirements and we can match them with the most suitable host families so they can continue their home from home routines. We have had a wide variety of dogs holiday with us this month and here are a few photo's.
My hosts are fantastic and as a Thank You for all their support I am hosting a Christmas get together on 25th November. It is a great opportunity for them to meet and chat with one another. If anyone is interested in hosting and would like to meet my host families then you are more than welcome to come along (please contact me for details).
The nights are drawing in and the days are getting colder, what better way to end 2015 than as the winner of our fantastic competition. You could win £5000 to spend on the holiday of your choice in 2016. If you haven't entered yet then click here for your chance to win.
You are never too old to have a Barking Mad holiday. We have had lots of lovely dogs holiday with us this summer and amongst them were some old timers. My hosts were keen to give them the holiday they deserved at a more leisurely pace. He are some photos of our older guests.
All our holidaying dogs have had a great time this summer, whether it be chilling on the sofa, playing in the garden or visiting the beach.
Wolfe & Rory
Cory & Missy
Wow what a difference a year makes. I have been 'Barking Mad' for just over a year now and this summer has been busy, busy, busy and we are only half way through. I would like to say a great big thank you to all my lovely hosts who are welcoming dogs of all shapes and sizes into their homes, some for just a weekend others for two or three weeks. Together we aim to give all visiting dogs the best time ever, whether it is swimming in rivers, playing on the beach or just snuggling up on the sofa, we have a host for you.
Here are some of the lovely dogs that are having a fabulous summer with Barking Mad.
I attended a Pet First Aid Course with my neighbouring Franchisee Sue Seward from Tyne & Wear. This was organised by Pro Training's Charlotte Deighton from Dog Days Academy (pictured below).
We found the day very informative and the course included practical tips and advice on how to deal with a wide range of dog related ailments and accidents, this included CPR training to use on a dog who isn't breathing. Hopefully I will never need to use this training but I believe it is essential to know when looking after dogs.
Charlotte also gave us a great deal of tips and showed us how to deal with:-
• Deep wounds - how to dress them
• Burns - what to do immediately until you can get the dog to the Vets
• Electric shocks
We were also given a list of everyday foods that can be poisonous if a dog eats them, these included chocolate, onions, grapes, currents and many more. If they are ingested in large amounts they can be fatal.
It was a lovely day and I will certainly be passing on the knowledge I gained on this course to my lovely host families!
15 year old Molly is staying with Barking Mad Ltd while her elderly owner is in hospital. This is her fifth week now with my host Jo and she is totally relaxed and having a wonderful time. At the request of the family, the hospital agreed Molly could visit. So last week I collected Molly and Jo and off we went for a very emotional reunion. Hats off to University Hospital of North Tees for letting this happen, Molly brought a smile to the many people we passed and there were a few tears shed on the ward. All the staff who should have finished their shifts had stayed back to meet the little dog they had all heard so many stories about. A great big thank you to my host Jo for accommodating Molly for so long and for being so flexible. At Barking Mad we will go that extra mile for our customers.
As the busy summer season approaches I would love to recruit more hosts, so if you or someone in your family are retired, work from home, maybe even a teacher who misses the company of a dog in the school holidays then why not become a host. Not all dogs stay for as long as Molly, some only have a weekend break, others a week or two. The great thing about hosting is the variety of dogs you could be looking after with no personal expense and you always have the full support of myself and Barking Mad.
At the end of May I will be attending a Pet First Aid course. I am really looking forward to this and will post information and pictures next month.
It's official, Cleveland, Teesside & Darlington has a new team member. Caroline has been joining me on my collections and deliveries for some time now and gradually learning how Barking Mad works and as we come into the busy summer period she has officially joined the team to help out at busy times and when I have that much needed day off. I have known Caroline for over 30 years (now that makes us sound old) and we are great friends as well as being related through marriage. She doesn't have her own dog at the moment but has owned Dobermans in the past, her last dog Desmond was a rescue Doberman who had had a very poor start in life, being badly neglected and she nursed him back to full health and he led a long and happy life.
We had a very busy Easter with quite a few last minute bookings, but thankfully we were able to provide holiday accommodation for all these dogs thanks to my wonderful hosts, many who changed their own plans to accommodate visiting dogs. As I get busier I would love to recruit more hosts, so if you know of anyone who may be interested please do let me know. Here is just a selection of the dogs on holiday this month.
Spring is in the air. The nights are getting lighter and hopefully soon the weather will be a little warmer, what better way to spend the spring days than with a canine companion. So many people love the company of a dog but don't want to commit to one full time. As a Barking Mad host you get all the pleasure of a dog in your own home without the long term commitment and expense that comes with owning a dog. All our dogs come to you with everything they need to make their holiday with you as close to their home routine as possible. Our holidaying dogs come in all shapes and sizes, meet some of our regulars below. If you would like to welcome a dog into your home for their holidays, please do get in touch.
Well the christmas holidays have started. To help get in the festive mood I was at the Greatham Christmas Market last week, despite the cold weather there was a great turn out and I met lots of lovely people, quite a few were interested in becoming Barking Mad hosts. My free prize draw for afternoon tea for two at Gladys Vintage Tearooms was won by Jane Tetlow of Greatham.
Some lovely dogs have been on pre Christmas mini breaks and others are having a Barking Mad Christmas, here are a few of them.
As we go into 2015 I would like to say a big thank you to my hosts for all their support during 2014 and I would like to wish my hosts, customers, their dogs and any visitors to this page
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR
Meet Sam, isn't he handsome, he has just enjoyed his second holiday with Barking Mad where he really made himself at home and was thoroughly spoilt by host Heather.
It has been a busy month, here are some dogs enjoying their Barking Mad holidays.
If you fancy some last minute winter sun or have a Christmas shopping trip planned, don't forget to book as soon as possible for your four legged friends so they get to stay with their favourite hosts!
I now have a mobile credit/debit card terminal so booking those last minute holidays couldn't be easier. If you have already registered with Barking Mad then just give me a call to book your next holiday and you can even pay over the phone by credit/debit card instead of cheque.
Lots of lovely dogs have been on holiday this month, see a selection of photo's below. Interest continues to grow for the Barking Mad service in the Teesside area and I will be doing some advertising in a few local magazines in the coming months. As a special promotion to coincide with these adverts, any holidays booked before the 30th November 2014 will benefit from a 10% discount.
I have recruited another lovely couple as hosts, Rose & Bill look forward to welcoming your dogs into their home. More hosts are required, so if you or anyone you know miss the company of a dog, have spare time on your hands, are retired or work from home then contact me for more information.
I was invited onto the Mike Parr show on BBC Radio Teesside on Monday 27th October 2014 to talk about how the Barking Mad service works. Click here to listen to the interview!
September has been a very eventful month. It started with myself, my son Liam and my best friend Lisa running in the Great North Run and raising money through Just Giving for Oesophagoose at the RVI, Newcastle. It was a very hot day but we completed it in a respectable 2.5 hours and we have raised £445 so far.
The next day, despite my aching limbs I found myself at the Angel of the North for a photo shoot with my three colleagues, Tina Young (Northumberland), Carrie Jarvis (Newcastle and Tyne Valley) and Sue Seward (Tyne and Wear). Between us we provide the Barking Mad home from home holiday service for dogs throughout the North of England. We are a great team, one newspaper tagged us 'The Dream Team' and although we all cover our own individual areas we are always there for each other, whether it be for advise or just a coffee and a chat.
A few dogs had some repeat holidays this month, Rosie wasn't too happy having to leave the warmth of the fire in her holiday home and Alfie had a great day out at the Stokesley Show with his host family. I was there too and it was a lovely surprise to see him. It was a great day, with over 20,000 visitors even though the weather was miserable with rain most of the day - it didn't stop Alfie having fun.
I would really like to recruit more hosts in my area. Are you retired or work from home? Do you miss the company of a dog? Do you miss the exercise and the social side of owning a dog? If you answer yes to any of these questions you could be just the person we are looking for. Why not become a Barking Mad host, it is great fun, all the benefits of owning a dog without the full time commitment. If you are interested or know someone who is, then please contact me on 01429 860846 or email me at Tracy.Johnston@BarkingMad.uk.com.
On 20th September 2014 the annual Stokesley Show will take place. This is always a good day out for all the family. I will be there with my dogs, hope to see you. http://www.stokesleyshow.co.uk
Here's some photos of Timber on holiday - he couldn't wait to have a swim, he loves water and it doesn't matter whether it's clean or dirty - bath time for him when he got home!
It has been a busy month again and it has been lovely getting out in the glorious sunny weather meeting lots of lovely dogs and their owners, many who are looking forward to using Barking Mad for their future holiday plans. I have recruited two lovely new host families, Olive and Glenys & Norman, they are looking forward to getting out and about with their new dog guests in the coming months.
Some recent dogs, big and small, but mainly big on mini breaks and very successful trials. Timber, the Labrador is looking forward to a four week holiday next month with David after they got on so well.
I am always looking for more hosts to join the Barking Mad family and I have some banners around town - look out for them! If you or someone you know would love to look after dogs whilst their owners are on holiday with full support from myself, then please do give me a call on 01429 860846.
Where has June gone? It has been such a busy month, I have met lots of lovely dogs and their owners and we have lots of holidays booked for the summer months. I have recruited a few new host families who are very excited and can't wait for their first holiday visitors. I would love to meet and recruit more hosts so if you are interested then please contact me. My three Schnauzers can't wait to go on a Barking Mad holiday and decided to try out their holiday name tags before going on their favourite walk in the overgrown fields.
Hello, what a busy few weeks I have had with Barking Mad, I have met lots of lovely people and their dogs. The Great North Dog Walk took place on Sunday 8th June 2014, this is an annual event and the aim is to raise lots of money for charity whilst also breaking the world record for the largest number of dogs walking with their owners during the course of the day.
Myself and Carrie Jarvis (Newcastle & Tyne Valley) were there promoting Barking Mad and we had an enormous amount of interest from dog lovers throughout the North East of England. I took part in the 3.5 mile walk with my 3 Miniature Schnauzers and the 23,000 + other dogs, who came in all shapes and sizes.
We held a free prize draw to win a Luxury Afternoon Tea for 2 at Matfen Hall Northumberland, this was won by Laverne Elrick of South Shields and she can be seen receiving her voucher from us. A great day was had by all.
