December 2016

Merry Christmas and a Barking Mad New Year!

It’s been a hectic but wonderful year for me, during which we have welcomed so many new hosts and customers, and organised more holidays for dogs in Lancashire than ever before. A big thank you to everyone who has trusted us to take care of their dog’s and I look forward to lots more fun in 2017.

We are getting a bit of a rest though now and will be treating our Border Terrier Derby, who loves the seaside, to a trip to the beach on Christmas morning and then a hike up the Old Man of Coniston in the Lake District at New Year. You can keep an eye on our trips and post your own festive doggy pictures on our facebook page at www.facebook.com/BarkingMadDogCareSouthLancashire

You can still contact me during the festive period via telephone or email so if you want to make a booking for 2017 or find out more about us, do get in touch.

Host Christmas Get Together

December is one of the times when my wonderful community of Barking Mad hosts get together to meet one another and share stories of the fabulous dogs they have cared for during the year. It’s also a great opportunity for me to say thank you to them for providing dogs with many loving holidays and peace of mind for their owners. Here’s a small selection of them sharing some festive cheer.

Max is an Olympet Champion!

2017 has been an amazing Olympic year, but we have a medal winning dog of our own here in Lancashire. Earlier in the year Max the black Labrador from South Lancashire won the nationwide competition amongst our social media followers to find the dog that most deserves a Barking Mad #Olympets Gold Medal.

We received many fantastic entries from across the country but Max’s really stood out! His owner, Caroline Parr, told us:

“Max is certainly one of the #Olympets. He is worthy of a medal in the pool, which he originally started when he was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia as a puppy and now it’s his favorite place to be. He would be a mean sausage bobber too, having been awarded a certificate for it during the 2012 doggy Olympics at daycare.”

We think that Max is a very deserving winner and he was delighted when I went to present his medal and prize. He looks truly handsome sporting his Barking Mad medal and Caroline will be treating him to some lovely Christmas toys and treats with his Pets at Home voucher.

Max also has a wonderful holiday to look forward to next Summer as Caroline also uses our dog home boarding service in Great Eccleston.

You and Your Dog can Help Tackle Loneliness

Taking your favourite dog for a visit, could be the perfect conversation starter to break the ice with lonely or elderly neighbours this Christmas!  Barking Mad is encouraging dog lovers to share a little festive spirit with our local neighbourhood.

Age UK has revealed that a staggering 1.2 million older people are 'chronically lonely’.  If you would like to help us tackle this statistic, think about visiting someone with your dog. A common sense approach is obviously required, and your dog must be of suitable temperament. Although this is one our busiest times of the year with the school holidays approaching, we still have availability during most of Summer thanks to the many more lovely people that have joined our community of host families this year

This Summer also marks the 2nd anniversary of me running Barking Mad in this area and I can’t believe where the time has gone. We really have gone from strength to strength and I would like to thank all my loyal customers, not to mention my wonderful community of host families, without which we could not do what we do. Barking Mad South Lancashire is delighted to be supporting Lancashire Dog Walkers, a new group for dog owners and dog lovers. The group organises regular informal guided walks of about 3 miles about once a month in lovely locations, usually including parkland and other locations suitable for off-lead walking. It’s a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people and their dogs. People who love dogs but don’t have one of their own are also very welcome! More than 20 people came to their last walk around Cuerdon Valet Park in October (see picture).
For those who like a longer walk, sister group Lancashire Weekend Walkers offers longer, more energetic hikes and welcomes dogs on a lead. For more information about future events please email lancs.walkers@virginmedia.com or visit and like their facebook page at www.facebook.com/lancsdogwalkers
