Hello, I’m Jacqui Clark and I provide the Barking Mad service in the Edinburgh and Lothians area. I cover all the main towns and surrounding areas, including Edinburgh, South Queensferry, Livingston, Linlithgow, Broxburn, Bathgate, Blackburn, Penicuik, West Linton, Peebles, Innerleithen, Dalkeith, Loanhead, Bonnyrigg, Musselburgh, Prestonpans, Port Seton, Tranent, North Berwick and Dunbar. I live near the small village of Nine Mile Burn, just outside Penicuik with my husband, Black Labrador Charlie, 2 cats and 5 chickens.
I always had dogs as a child and was delighted to be able to have my very own dog when we moved here to the countryside. I gladly took time out of work to train what was a very exuberant (and now marginally less lively adult dog!) I was previously a host for Barking Mad and really enjoyed the variety of dogs who came to stay with us-and loved to see them all settle so quickly into their holiday home. There were always lots of stories to tell the owners about the dogs’ holiday, such as new places visited, new animals discovered for the first time and doggie-friendships made. Having had a few years off after spending many years working in the Charity Sector I’m really pleased to have joined the incredibly enthusiastic and committed team at Barking Mad. I thrive on combining my enjoyment in working with people with my love of dogs, as they have always played a big part in my life.
If you would like to know more about the excellent services we provide in your area, call me on 01968 675522. I’d really love to hear from you!
We're delighted to provide our service in the following towns and surrounding areas:
- East Calder
- North Berwick
- Port Seton
- South Queensferry
- West Calder
- West Linton

Our golden retriever Hamish just had his first stay with a family through Barking Mad. He came back very relaxed and happy and had obviously got on really well with his hosts.
Jacqui really took care in finding out all about Hamish and getting a good match for him. We will definitely use Barking Mad again and would highly recommend the service. It's a great peace of mind to know your pooch is being well looked after when you're away on holiday.
Back home now and spent the morning relaxing with Bonnie and our family.
We wanted to say a big thank you to Jacqui for helping us find a family to look after and care for Bonnie while we were away. It was a huge deal for us leaving her as it was our first away from her but what a great experience she had! How lucky were we to have found a great match for her first time round!!
Jane and her family were the perfect family with a good mix of exercise and cuddles... And a lot of love!!! Exactly what she needed!!!
We would absolutely use 'Barking Mad' again for any of our future holidays.

Louis has just had his first trial stay with Barking Mad and it was a great success - all thanks to Jacqui and the hosts (Helen and Bob). From the start Jacqui was very helpful with all my questions. During our initial meeting Jacqui spent loads of time getting to know Louis and providing us with valuable information about potential hosts. After our initial meeting Jacqui was continually on hand to answer any of my questions. Through discussions Helen and Bob were deemed the ideal hosts for Louis, and correctly so. Throughout his short start away I received pictures and text updates via. Jacqui from the hosts and Louis looked very relaxed and happy. It was a great peace of mind for me and rest of Louis' family knowing that he was having a lot of fun. I am so glad I found Barking Mad and I am sure Louis is looking forward to his next holiday in March.
We have used Barking Mad for several years when we go on holiday, first with an elderly yorkie and then with Milo, a very large, exuberant yorkie. Both dogs have always enjoyed their holidays and we don't have to worry when we go away.
When we had a family wedding to attend Barking Mad was the obvious solution. Due to fairly short notice the usual host wasn't available but Milo had a great time with Phyllis. He is looking forward to his holiday with Dennis in the summer.
Gyoza is a very active 7month old Pug girl puppy.
She loves chasing a ball, playing hide and seek, running around, biting everything... she never stops!
Therefore we took a while to find the right place for her to stay during the Christmas holiday when we had to fly to Matthew's family in Wales.
We were recommended Barking Mad and were both were really impressed with the service in many ways.
Our organiser Jacqui was really kind and knows how to treat little dogs very well. She visited us to meet Gyoza for around an hour to see which host family would suits her. Gyoza immediately fell in love with Jacqui, it was a great meeting. Jacqui also explained how the system works very well, and it was very reassuring.
The second impressive thing was our host family Eileen, a retired nurse. Initially Matthew and I were worried that Gyoza would be too active for Eileen, but we were very wrong. When Gyoza came back from her holiday she looked so happy and healthy. She obviously had a great fun time with Eileen and her family
The last thing was "Barking Mad report" about Gyoza's holiday.
Jacqui sent me a report about how happy Gyoza settled with Eileen's family, so during the holiday we didn't have to worry about Gyoza, even though this was the first time she was separated from us. After Gyoza's holiday, Jacqui gave us some holiday photos and a postcard! They will be a great memory for Gyoza.
Because Gyoza is a very active puppy and takes lots energy from us, Matthew and I will need a short break again in the near future, but now we know about Barking Mad, we won't feel guilty about leaving Gyoza behind. Spending fun time with the host family is an exciting holiday for Gyoza, too!
Thank you Jacqui, we will ask you to arrange Gyoza's holiday again sometime soon!
The whole process from start to finish was excellent. Maddie seemed to have a brilliant time with her host family and I will definitely be using Barking mad again.
Breagha came back from her Barking Mad holiday a very happy and contented girl. This is really the first time we have left her for any period of time and we were delighted to be reassured that she had recognised her carer and had settled in quickly. Barking mad offer a marvellous service. Jacqui is so good with Breagha when she meets her, and it is great to see her hopping into Jacqui's car clearly looking forward to her adventure. A big thank you to Jacqui and to carer Ruth for taking so much care with our girl and giving us peace of mind on our holiday.
As regular travellers with a much loved miniature schnauzer we have been so well looked after by Barking Mad, Edinburgh - that's all three of us!Meg has had some lovely holidays with delightful hosts and we have had real peace of mind. Thank you to Jacqui Clarke for all her care and attention, always delivered with a big smile!
Skye, our labradoodle, is just back from her first Barking Mad holiday. She was well cared for by her host family, who from their insights on the 'post card', really got to know her well and her quirks. They obviously gave her a lot of care and spent time with her. We would not hesitate to use the service again. From the initial registration to the collect and drop off, the service was great. It meant we could relax and enjoy our holiday.
Just wanted to let you know that we think Barking Mad is such a great way to have peace of mind when it comes to dog care....allowing the owners to slope off and not worry....I had used kennels for many years for Molly and Milly and because they had each other the leaving behind bit was easier....company for each other. When Molly died, not so easy and Milly very nervous and I guess not too happy or settled. I used to get Iain to take her but found it too difficult, coward that I am!!
With Barking Mad it is so different. Thankyou for matching up Milly with Dennis. I know they both get pleasure from each others company and that is good for all of us.
If for any reason Dennis couldn't take Milly, I have every confidence in your matching skills.
All hard work for you with not a lot of free time, everyone going on holiday now all year round!!!
Thankyou for such a great service....... Posted by Pam Gotts
Molly & Murphy had a great holiday in August with Donald & Iona and their family. They came back happily exhausted after all the great exercise they had running in the fields. Jacqui was great at keeping in touch to let us know how they were doing, this makes all the difference to us and helps us enjoy our holiday without worrying about them. Ziva is just back from her first Barking Mad holiday, although we hope she didn't bark, like mad! Ziva came back looking very happy and well looked after and seems to have had a lovely time with Ishbel. This was her first time ever away from home and we were a bit worried she wouldn't settle, but we needn't have worried. We are already looking at booking her for a second holiday! Thanks for all the care and attention, Jacqui, and to Ishbel for making Ziva feel so at home!
It's always with bitter sweet anticipation a holiday approaches as it means your much loved pet has to be handed over to someone else. However, I must say that without fail, when we have used Jacqui and Barking Mad, my dog Harry has always come home bright cheerful and very fit. My recent holiday was no exception and his host, Margaret and her husband obviously looked after him with love and care. He suffers from hip dysplasia and his exercise requires careful monitoring and once again this was taken care of. The pick up and drop off arrangements were also spot on. I would thoroughly recommend them if, like me, you really care who looks after your most 'faithful friend'.
Just got Clova back after another successful stay with a Barking Mad host. It makes such a difference to us knowing she is being well looked after whilst we are away - so much nicer than kennels! Thanks so much Jacqui.
It was so important to us that our precious Bobby was in safe hands while we were on holiday. He's a rescue dog and we did not want to take him back to a kennel environment. When we met Jacqui and heard about the service offered we felt very happy.
We did a trial run for a few nights and Bobby stayed with Pat. She cared for him so well and we have now just got back from a 2 week holiday and we have a very contented little dog. Jacqui and Pat gave us peace of mind so we could enjoy our holiday. We would recommend this service to anyone that wants the best for their dog. A very big thankyou.
Jacqui and hosts Iona and Donald offer a fantastic service and Rudi just adores them. I have peace of mind to take a break as I know he is well cared for and he can't wait to go on his holiday when Jacqui arrives! It's lovely to see my boy go off on his holidays with a waggy tail. Thank you so much Jacqui, Iona and Donald...oh and not forgetting the special furry host Corrie.
Fantastic service Barney one happy doggie !!!!!
The service provided by Jacqui and Barking Mad is amazing. Breagha is our baby and the prospect of putting her into kennels was not one we relished. Thanks to Barking Mad Breagha had a short trial holiday and came back happy and we'll cared for. We can now plan our real holiday knowing she will be cared for the way we want. Many thanks to Jacqui and host Ruth.
A Massive Thank you to Barking Mad who found a wonderfull holiday home for my 2 Yorkshire Terriers Maisie and Archie.Like most of us i worried about leaving them with strangers, but there was no need.Seeing them 7 Days later i could tell straight away how happy they had been, they didnt want to come home. They had been with the perfect host (Thank you) and soon told me they couldn't wait to go again.I highly recommend Barking Mad to anyone.
From the initial consultation with Jacqui, who was very understanding, I felt comfortable and reassured that Frank would be well looked after despite previous difficult experiences at kennels. Hosts were found and Frank was collected with no fuss and whisked away on his holidays, I soon had a text to show Frank totally relaxed and making himself at home with John and Betty. On his return, I was assured no problems had arisen and I received a postcard telling me how much fun he'd had, he did all his favourite things! Frank settled back in as if he'd never been away, unlike previous kennel experiences, he obviously enjoyed himself. Thank you so much to Jacqui and John and Betty for giving Frank a wonderful holiday, he'll be booking again soon!
Carrie looks great after her holiday, very happy to have her home and it was great to relax on our holiday knowing she would be really cared for.
Thanks to you and to host Christina
We signed up with Jacqui at Barking Mad in Oct last year with a view to using the service in Spring / Summer 2014. However a family bereavement in Jan this year prompted us to write to Jacqui with a very last minute request for a family to take Molly & Murphy for one night so that we could attend the funeral. The quick response and service we got from Jacqui was fantastic and meant we could travel and attend the funeral with a bit less stress. By all accounts Molly and Murphy had a lovely time with their host family and this has given us the confidence and reassurance for the future. Jacqui, we can’t thank you enough for your understanding and support !

Barking Mad provides an excellent service from start to finish. It allows you to go on holiday with the reassurance that your dog is in caring hands and is following his settled routine of his own bed, good food, walks, company and loving attention. This is something you cannot expect from kennels, no matter how good they are. My local co-ordinator Jacqui Clark gave a very thorough, thoughtful, caring and professional service and obviously loves dogs – a very important feature in my opinion. I will have no hesitation in using Barking Mad again”
We are absolutely delighted with every aspect of the service we have experienced from Barking Mad, from the initial consultation with Jacqui, our local franchisee, to the care of our beloved dog Barkley.
It was Barkley's first time away from home and we were concerned how he would fare, but he obviously had a marvellous time at the hands of his devoted host and is eagerly awaiting a return visit! We have every confidence that he will enjoy himself just as much next time and can relax knowing he is in expert hands.'
Loki has returned from her holiday extremely satisfied and actually quite tired! She had been on so many walks and adventures, I'm not sure she even missed us! I haven't seen her so happy and waggy tailed. Thank you so much for looking after her so well. She will definitely be back
"The service provide by Barking Mad, and Jacqui in particular, was excellent from start to finish. The care in placing Morag in the right environment was evident and it was obvious that Morag thoroughly enjoyed her time staying with Pat. In truth, probably enjoyed it too much!! Everything that was promised was delivered, including text messages and emails whilst we were away, which helped put our mind at ease. We will definitely use the service again and would have no hesitation in recommending Barking Mad."

Just want you to know how pleased we are with our first experience of Barking Mad. Our elderly dog Willow is so much happier going on her walks and her holiday has given her a 'second wind'. We were worried about leaving her but the whole thing was a great success, thank you so much.
Thank goodness a neighbour recommended Barking Mad. Since then we have used the service for the past 5 years. In our experience Barking Mad provide a high level of service with good communication and information. Staff are professional and enthusiastic with the host carers working hard to ensure dogs have a wonderful holiday. As a result we are able to enjoy our holiday in the knowledge that our dog is well cared for and happy, and in fact "having a ball" of a time. Each time our dog has been with a host carer he has returned home happy, fit and well groomed. Especially nice to receive is the 'holiday photo' sent with a description of what your dog has been doing on holiday. 'Brilliant'. So, well done to all at Barking Mad-without you we would not be able to enjoy our holidays.
Lottie came home after her "holiday" very happy and it was clear she had been well cared-for during the week we were away. Barking Mad was a great solution for Lottie as she is quite nervous around people and dogs she doesn't know. The fact that she was spared the stress of a boarding kennels made our holiday much happier and I would certainly use Barking Mad again and recommend you to others.
What a fantastic service! Used for the first time for Jackson our 3 year old Lhasa Apso, and would definitely use Barking Mad again. Efficient and dedicated service - Jacqui is fantastic and very understanding. Look no place else!
We are so grateful for all of your efforts to coordinate a fantastic doggy vacation for Monty, even at short notice during the spring school holidays. We really had such a lovely time and what made it even better was knowing that our large Labradoodle was being so well looked after. As usual, he was returned to us happy and healthy. This is the fourth time we have used Barking Mad as it gives us the peace of mind we need to be able to really enjoy our getaways. In fact, we are already planning our next holiday!
It gave us such peace of mind to know Milly was not on her own at kennels following the death of her 'mate' of 10 years. She benefitted so much from all the TLC and walks the host gave her.
Just wanted to tell you how happy we were with every part of your service for Wilson-he came home very happy and content!
Barking Mad are the most reliable, friendly and warm company offering a service above any others.
Great service, very happy and will use again.
