Hi, I’m Diane and I run Barking Mad Southampton alongside my husband, Paul. Since I was a child, animals have been a huge part of my life. During secondary school, I spent time working on the school farm — and I absolutely loved it. That early experience sparked a passion that led me to study at Sparsholt College, where I pursued my love for animal care.
I began with horticulture, agriculture, and general animal care before moving on to complete a First Diploma in Animal Care and a National Certificate in Animal Care. These courses covered a wide range of animal-related topics, and further deepened my understanding and love for all creatures great and small.
After college, I spent some time working in a boarding kennels. Although I loved the work, it was too far from home, so I returned to Southampton. Over the years, I’ve had a variety of customer service and health & social care roles — always holding onto the dream that one day, I’d return to working with animals, where I truly belong. That dream has now become a reality.
Paul and I have a beautiful Golden Retriever named Willow. She’s gentle and affectionate, but shy around other dogs and sensitive to barking. She absolutely thrives on human companionship and loves cuddles and walkies. Traditional kennels just weren’t the right fit for her — and that’s how I discovered Barking Mad.
It was the perfect match for Willow — and for me. I knew right away that this was the new adventure I’d been waiting for. Today, I’m proud to offer a personalised, caring, and kennel-free experience to dogs across Southampton. I treat every dog like part of the family, because I know that’s exactly what they are.
