We’re all going on a summer holiday!

Capture dogs.PNG

Summer is well under way here in Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley with lots of dogs enjoying their Barking Mad holidays! We’ve had a great first year so far meeting lots of gorgeous dogs along the way and of course meeting our lovely host families.

Providing home from home dog boarding for all these lovely dogs is such a pleasure and you can see from the photos above they have a great time too. Some of the dogs are having their first holiday with us and some are on their fourth holiday already this year so looks like some loyalty cards will be getting full!

We are out and about in September at a couple of shows so come say hi if you can. We will be at Ecclesfield Gala in the park on Sunday the 4th and then at the Rain Rescue Dog Show on the 11th.

5 Reasons to use Barking Mad

Whenever you go away on holiday there’s always the issue of asking your friends or family to look after your beloved dog for a week or two. But if you use our Barking Mad home boarding service you won’t have to worry about imposing on friends and family again and your dog will have as good a holiday as you…. If not better!

People often ask me what the benefits of Barking Mad are so I have made a short list of the 5 main reasons to use the most trusted dog sitters in Sheffield, Rotherham & Barnsley.

1. Dogs get all the cuddles and playtime they would get at home (sometimes more!)
Our host families are absolutely mad about dogs and love them like their own. They will care for your dog as part of the family whether that means a cuddle on the sofa (if they are allowed), playtime in the park or a nice long walk through the woods.

2. A healthy home environment.
Your dog goes to a safe and comfortable home where they can roam free as they would in their own home. This enables them relax and have a stress free holiday just like you.

3. Holidays are tailored to your dog’s needs.
Every dog has its own needs and every home is slightly different so we take the time to create a full schedule for your dog. We cover everything from meal times, walks, favourite toys, behaviour with other dogs and if they are allowed on the furniture etc. This way we can keep your dog’s day to day routine and make sure they have a real home from home experience.

4. A happy dog
Dogs will miss their loved ones when they are away and it is hard to let them know that they will be back home soon. However, dogs tend to live in the moment and by living with another family in a caring home environment they will relax and settle down much quicker. This will result in a happy dog as they are loved and cared for receiving individual attention that kennels can’t provide.

5. Complete peace of mind.
You can enjoy your holiday to its fullest knowing you have left your dog in professional hands, safe and happy. Because we only house dogs on a one to one basis (unless it’s two dogs from the same family) you can rest assured that they are getting the love and care they deserve.

It's Showtime!

                           stall.jpg  cupcakes.jpg

We have been very busy over the last couple of months meeting people at various local shows and spreading the word about Barking Mad. Since June we have attended summer fayres at Ravenfield, Stocksbridge, Maltby and Hillsborough with 2 more to go before summer is over!

Our homemade doggy themed cupcakes went down really well and we managed to collect some money for a good cause at the same time.

We have met some wonderful people and dogs which have resulted in new customers and hosts joining the Barking Mad community. If you haven’t seen us yet and want to discuss our dog boarding service or talk about becoming a host then come and see us at one of our upcoming events below.

Saturday 23rd July – Wentworth Garden Centre
Sunday September 4th – Ecclesfield Gala
Sunday September 11th – Rain Rescue Fun Dog Show

Dog Rescue Donation

Bentley was in the Rotherham Advertiser recently with his new friend Jessie the rescued Staffie. We raised £100 for Rain Rescue by selling our homemade dog biscuits. It’s only a small amount but the money will go a small way towards building a brand new kennel block for all the rescue dogs they take great care of each and every day.

There are so many dogs in need of a new home in the Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley area and organisations like Rain Rescue need all the help they can get to help them carry on the great work that they do.

Simple Homemade Dog Biscuits

We recently gave away some of our homemade dog biscuits at a craft fair and they were such a hit with the dogs we wanted to share the recipe so you can make your own. They are really simple to make, don’t contain any nasty additives and you can even save yourself some money.

Biscuits video.jpg
Ingredients
320gm Wholemeal Flour
100ml Hot Water
1 Stock cube Beef or Chicken
1 Egg
Method
1. Mix the stock cube with 100ml of hot water and allow to cool.
2. Add the water to the wholemeal flour.
3. Lightly beat the egg and add to the mix.
4. Mix by hand and then knead the dough for roughly 4/5 minutes.
5. Roll out the dough to about 1cm thickness – Tip: If the dough is sticky place in fridge for a few minutes to cool. You can also roll between two sheets of greaseproof paper.
6. Cut out using a bone shaped cutter (available on ebay) and place on baking tray in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes.
You can view the video of how to make these on my Facebook page here – Home Made Dog Biscuits

New recruit!

At Barking Mad Sheffield, we have decided it’s time to grow our team and take on another member to help with our busy times.
The only trouble is we have no idea what to name him (it’s definitely a him I checked)!
So if you would like to help us name this lovable chap then please head over to our Facebook page and give us your suggestions.

A Barking Mad Competition!

We recently ran our first Facebook competition giving away some Barking Mad goodies and we are pleased to say it went really well! Many people got involved from around Rotherham, Barnsley and Sheffield with the post receiving 45 likes, 49 shares and reaching over 10,000 people.

The main prize was ‘Buster’ the big cuddly dog who found his way to our lucky winner Ryan. We heard Buster is really enjoying his new home and has settled into the family really well.

Our 4 other winners received a Barking Mad calendar or a Barking Mad Bag and Pen.
Stay tuned for more competitions in the future…

Top Dog!

Last week I contacted a local Pet Photographer based in Rotherham to have a new picture taken for my webpage, facebook and twitter. I spoke to Ryan “The Top Dog Photographer” and we arranged to meet up a few days later. Me and Millie met with Ryan in our local area and although it wasn’t raining the soggy muddy ground proved to be a challenge we ended up a little muddy by the end of the shoot.

Ryan was very professional and I couldn’t have been happier with the end result. If you are looking to capture the real character of your best friend then Ryan is the man for the job. You can see some of his amazing work on his website - The Top Dog Photo Company
