Hi there, we're Barking Mad dog sitters in Warlingham a great alternative to dog kennels. What makes us unique? Our sitting services are provided by host people and families just like you that will look after your pet in a way that you would totally approve of. Loving and leaving behind your dog is tough to do and it's really made more difficult when you know they may be placed in a kennel being fed & watered perhaps walked once or twice per day along with many other dogs. Our host families are just like you and I, they're able to take care of your pet as if you were looking after him or her yourself.
Dogs are naturally part of a pack therefore you, as far they are concerned, are a part of their pack. When the pack splits up even temporarily during the day with you being at work this can be a stressful time for your pet, by ensuring that they still have their familiar routine and friendly company around them this stress is greatly reduced and the separation anxiety usually experienced disappears. Matching your needs to the right host family is really important to us. We want to make sure that we get it right so that while you are away your dog is having a great time too. We put together a bespoke service which puts your dog with the best carers who will really take care of your dog while you are away.
Every one of our hosts have been carefully selected by our team of experts to ensure that they meet with the needs of our customers. It is important to keep to a routine and this consists of the time of day they are generally walked and fed. If your dog requires any particular attention such as medication given they we are happy to assist with that as well.
Our reach is UK wide. Not only are we Warlingham's favourite dog sitters but we're the UK's favourite too. Our host families are just about everywhere throughout the UK. Our local branch is just a short trip away from wherever you are. Just check our testimonials from previous and repeat customers should you have any concerns whatsoever. Like all good businesses Barking Mad Warlingham thrives on great reviews and word of mouth recommendations, we hope to have yours soon too.
You will obviously want to know how they're getting on while you are away and with our regular updates to Facebook etc you can rest assured that they will be receiving the very best treatment possible. We are able to send you pictures and progress reports of how they are getting on and of course if there was ever any need to notify you in an emergency we will do this at the earliest opportunity, but please be assured that our expert family of dog sitters can take care of any eventuality.
We started Barking Mad in the year 2000 after we realised that dog lovers everywhere were missing this type of service, other similar organisations have appeared since but nobody can rival our custom made bespoke service and level of care. Other providers sometimes have helpers who'll call at your home and feed your dog and take them for a walk but your dog needs company, attention and love. You know yourself that at times your dog can almost feel human, we know plenty of people even view their dog as their children. Wouldn't you want the best for any family member if it were accessible? Well we do too.
We invite you to see all of our dog loving families and carefully consider your host family before you decide to pick. Our entire process is simple and it all starts with a phone call or a form submission, so what are you waiting for?

Host families are given a Pet Schedule detailing all of the information we gathered at the initial registration meeting and we’re on hand 24 hours a day 7 days a week to support them.
We’ll send a photograph of your dog to you as soon as he’s been safely delivered to the host. The very next day we give you a ‘rest easy’ update, so you can then sit back, relax and enjoy the rest of your time away in the knowledge we’ve got everything covered.
On the day of return you’ll receive a fun postcard from the host and we’ll stamp your loyalty card so you can gain points which will entitle you to a free night away.
The best bit for us is seeing dogs happily settled-in and comfortable with their host. We will, wherever possible, be sure to use the same family each time you book a holiday. There are no minimum or maximum time limits we’re here whenever you need us.
Ask for your loyalty card. When your card is full you receive a FREE stay on us! (1 full card = 28 paw stamps).
If you love dogs but can’t commit to the full time financial and emotional responsibility of having a dog of your own, or if you have a very sociable dog who would benefit from visiting guests coming to stay, then you’ve come to the right place!
Our very own host families are extremely special people indeed. They have been selected carefully and interviewed in depth at home to ensure they meet our criteria. We get to know them really well and have worked with many of them for a great number of years.
Who are our hosts
It goes without saying, all of our hosts, without exception, are absolutely dotty about dogs. Some are actively retired people who’ve had dogs all of their lives but now enjoy the freedom and flexibility of caring for dogs on holiday. Others are younger, often with a family at home, where the addition of a visiting dog is great fun for all.
How it works
We’ve done all the hard work so you don’t have to. We think it’s important that our hosts concentrate on looking after visiting dogs and that they are not exposed to, or distracted by a constant flow of potential customers and dogs coming and going. Our hosts are also protected from the awkwardness of dealing with money, insurance and paperwork, so that the enjoyment of looking after visiting dogs remains their focus.
Support 24 Hours a Day – 7 Days a Week
Looking after someone else’s dog is great fun, however from time to time you may need a little local, on the ground support and it’s great to know we’re on hand 24/7 to provide just that.
If you’re interested in joining our fun, dog loving host community to become a pet sitter we’d love to hear from you.

"We recently had Fozzie for several days it was such a joy to have him my dog Wiggles loves him a lot.
My whole family love him as did our friends where we walk every day.
We look forward to his next visit.

"We enjoy looking after peoples dogs as it gives us pleasure to think they have come from home to home. Sometimes our commitments are heavy but It fits in with our lifestyle as we can do it as and when we can. It gives us pleasure and hopefully the pets enjoy our company too. Barking Mad are efficiently run and if I had a dog of my own would gladly let them find a host for my."

"Lulu has just been to me on her fourth visit. We've both had a lovely time and it seems strange today without her. She is well known and well loved by my friends and neighbours now as well as the local dogs. We all look forward to seeing her again soon."
Jackie - 6th Jan, 2017
"We had the pleasure of looking after Pip for 2 weeks over Christmas this year! We all loved having him for his 2nd visit with us. We enjoyed the walks (even in the cold and sometimes wet) and my children loved his company too!
I would love to have a dog of my own sometime soon, but looking after dogs with Barking Mad gives me the opportunity to see how a dog would fit into our lives, what challenges it might bring and what delights too! I can test out different breeds and ages too in case I go down the rescue dog route!
Definitely a win win option."
Brenda - 6th Jan, 2017
"We recently had Molly come to stay we all fell in love with her. My dog Wiggles loved her too
She was so good and had us laughing when she showed attention to the Tv.
We enjoyed her company and will look forward to her coming to see us again.

"We thought the service we got from Emily at Barking Mad was very professional - the information we received on Inca prior to our having her was very precise and made our experience all the better. It was good to know she was at the end of the phone especially as this was our first time. Inca was a pleasure to have and as advised needed lots of love and attention which we certainly gave her. We look forward to the next time to host again. Many thanks."

"Lulu has just gone home after seventeen nights with me. This is the longest stay I've had but it wasn't too long. She is a delightful, easy dog to look after who quickly makes herself at home.
This is the third time she's been to me and I look forward to her next visit."
Brenda - 4th Oct, 2016
"I think Barking Mad is such a lovely idea as the dogs can visit families a bit of a holiday whilst their owners have a holiday too.
We recently enjoyed a visit from a beautiful dog Fozzie he settled into our home quite happily and we enjoyed him too.
Animals need to feel secure with no worries and fitting into a family environment makes for a happy doggie I think Barking Mad is a very good idea
I will look forward to the next vistor on four legs."
Jackie - 12th Sep, 2016
"I have recently looked after Pip for just over a week and really enjoyed it. I am looking to have a dog myself but want to be 100% sure I am doing the right thing before I take the plunge.
I love that with barking mad you get lots of help and support while looking after someone else's precious dog. If you have a problem or the dog becomes unwell you also know that help is at hand. I found the experience rewarding and it was lovely having Pip stay with us. The problem is we missed him when he was gone...
I would like to continue looking after dogs with barking mad.
Celia - 19th Jul, 2016
"Hugo has just had two weeks holiday with me. As a lively two-year-old Springer he was more of a challenge than I've had before but I loved it, and him. We walked many miles and I managed to loose some weight. An added bonus for me!
I think Hugo enjoyed having my undivided attention and he certainly made the most of it. I always think about how I would like my own dog to feel - happy, secure, content, and loved."

"Hello I love having the dogs it gets me out and about too..I am fairly new to the neighbourhood. And I have met people that I would not have met if I was not hosting. All the dogs I have had since I've been hosting have been very good I love them all. I wish I could have some of the small dogs back I had last year!. Posted by Linda"

"I love being a host we find it encourages us to go out more and explore dog friendly places so we get loads of fresh air and exercise. We have the peace of mind that Barking Mad are on the end of a phone if we need them for any reason and its a great way of having a dog without the costs involved. Also if your lifestyle means you cannot have a dog then this is a great alternative. I would definitely recommend it as all the dogs we have had have been easy to care for and friendly, the hardest part is saying goodbye but because you know they will probably have another holiday before too long you don't get upset you just look forward to their next stay."
Anne and David - 28th Jun, 2016
"Hosting a dog gives us a lot of pleasure and is very rewarding. We have only been hosting dogs for 3 months but we're really enjoying it. It gives you the satisfaction of knowing that each dog has had a lot of love and a good home from home holiday. We treat every dog as if it was ours, taking note of the pet profile guidelines. It is a great help knowing that you have the back-up of Barking Mad should anything untoward happen, which gives us peace of mind. John has been excellent matching us with the dogs we've hosted so far."
Brian and Carole - 8th Apr, 2016
"We have been hosting for 18 months now and have come to know the regular dogs we have. The owners have requested many times that they like them to go back to the same host. We find it rewarding that they make these requests.
Nicola is always very careful to match the host and dog and this shows in the requests she gets.
Keep up the good work. A perfect match makes a happy owner, dog and host.
Barking mad prides itself on this and Nicola and her team work very hard to make this happen.
We have just got another first time little doggy today and we hope that he will want to come back again.
A big thankyou to all the team."
Celia - 6th Apr, 2016
"Archie has just gone home after his second visit. He's the most affectionate little dog I've met. Really loving, kind, and gentle. He can be a bit naughty sometimes but we suit one another well and both thoroughly enjoyed our week."
Gwen - 31st Mar, 2016
"We have just had a second visit from a lovely dog that we first met over last Xmas. Having become very fond of her the first time, it was lovely to see her again. She settled more quickly this visit, and was very relaxed. We really enjoyed our time with her, and look forward to her next visit."
Gwen - 24th Mar, 2016
"We have just had a beautiful golden labrador to share our lives with for the past nine days. He was delightful, really good around other dogs and children, and a joy to be with. I'm looking forward to having him to stay again."
Pam - 18th Mar, 2016
"We have just said goodbye to our latest doggy client and thoroughly enjoyed having him here.
He settled in straight away, was friendly and playful. We never imagined choosing this breed ourselves but he's now a very firm favourite and today the house seems empty without him. Hope to look after him again sometime."
Gwen - 14th Mar, 2016
"I enjoy doing the best I can to make sure that my doggy guest feels relaxed, cared for and loved whilst they're away from home. This is what I would want for my own dog, when I have to go away on holiday, so I find it very rewarding to provide this for other people and their dogs."
Jenny - 8th Feb, 2016
"For me, the best part of being a Barking Mad host is getting to know all the different doggie personalities and making friendships with them, particularly when my new houseguest could be feeling a little bit homesick."
Margaret & Stan - 26th Jan, 2016
"We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting a lot of Barking Mad dogs over the last seven years. We have always had terrific support from Brad and team and prior to that from Chris and Alex. In all that time we have only needed help once during a visit, for minor veterinary attention, and that was dealt with very quickly and efficiently. I think this is because the dogs are well matched to their hosts (and the hosts own dogs!) in the first place. We also use Barking Mad for our own dogs holidays."
Adam - 22nd Jan, 2016
"When we moved to Dundee we both missed not having a dog in our lives. Being a host for Barking Mad gave us the opportunity to have that again, even though giving them back at the end is always hard.
It allowed us to see how well having a dog would fit into our lives in a full time situation, and directly influenced our decision to get our own. Now we look forward to hosting other dogs for Angus to play with.
As hosts, the support you receive from Brad is amazing and the detail he goes into to facilitate yours and the dogs well being is incredible.
I would thoroughly recommend anyone who wants to have a visitor now and again, someone who misses the company of the dog but has commitments and everybody who wants a dog but is not sure if it will work to become a host with Barking Mad, you won't regret it!"
Lorna - 22nd Jan, 2016
"I have been a host for several years, I started with Barking Mad as I wanted to have a dog but visiting family in the south made it impractical, so when I am home I have a dog, I have had a great variety of dogs from a little Jack Russell to a huge mountain dog. Barking mad is great because they match dogs with their hosts in all the years of hosting I have never had a dog that I would not have again. Hosting dogs means I go out everyday, I talk to many people and share doggie stories."
Ed and Barbara - 22nd Jan, 2016
"Having a four-legged lodger for a few days is always a pleasure. Still getting over the loss of our own dog but nothing cheers you up more than another wagging tail around the house. Great support from Brad and his team. If only he could do something about this awful Scottish weather."
Kate & Graham - 20th Jan, 2016
"We live in Shirley and have local parks, woods and fields nearby. Whatever the weather we love taking the dogs out and about. They have joined us for barbecues, street parties and made visits to a local elderly care home. Our grandchildren have learned to overcome their fear of dogs by meeting our 'guests'.Having a dog keeps us fit and healthy too. Our garden is large and well fenced so the dogs can enjoy chasing squirrels!
We would love to have a dog of our own but with working full-time until recently and travelling it never seemed the right time. Having dogs for Barking Mad has 'filled the need'. We have had so many dogs to stay (and everyone a pleasure) and one in particular has come twice a year since 2008.
Tina organises things so well - she 'matches' the right dog to the right host - so everyone is happy ( most of all the dog!)"
Susan - 20th Jan, 2016
"I love being a host for dogs with Barking Mad, and enjoy meeting the different visiting dogs, and getting to know each ones individual personality."
Sandra & Terry - 19th Jan, 2016
"We love being hosts to barking mad, Terry is around most of the day, and I work 4 days a week, so we can have doggies almost all the time other than we are on our hols !!, we already have our fav’s Bruno, Bentley, Darcy , Biscuit, Ben the boxer & Gunner, and Tina will try her up most so we can have them on repeat hols, it means a lot to us as we love looking after all the little & big ones, and they all have there own little characters, we have photos of all the dogs we have had since July last year, and look forward to seeing them all again this year, and miss them when they go home, It’s a pleasure to look after doggies on there hols, & and its filled a gap since loosing a couple of our own pets last year,"
Jenny, John and Jean - 15th Jan, 2016
"Being an animal lover - I love working with Barking Mad and being a host for them. I especially like having their beautiful doggies to stay. The doggies all have their own very different characters and we have some good times filled with really good fun and laughs with the doggies that stay with us.
We all really enjoy having the pets and get out and about and sometimes on the odd occasion we take them out to other parks and places close to home. Its just like having your own pet!
I do like the events and walks that Tina at Barking Mad arranges. Its a chance to get out with other hosts and meet them and hear their tales as a host.
I recall a fete we went to lovely sunny day with lots of dogs and we all had such a great time, I recall feeling quite sorry when the fete ended."
Tracey - 15th Jan, 2016
"We have been hosting since last summer and really enjoy the experience and getting to know the personalities of the dogs, even the cheeky ones !
I particularly like walking in the fields and woods nearby with my host dogs as company, and its great exercise too.
Rosina - 15th Jan, 2016
"I first looked after dogs in 2005 & have kept photos of all my visitors. After a break, came back to it a couple of years ago. I have had Millie two years running & cannot wait to greet her again in July, it feels like a special friend spending her holiday with me :)"
Gwen - 8th Jan, 2016
"Sheba, a beautiful Belgian Shepherd dog, was my first experience with 'Barking Mad'. She was adorable, very gentle, and well behaved. She seemed to fall in love with my partner - maybe she saw him as her temporary pack leader - and we both really enjoyed her company over the Christmas period. Having lost my own much loved collie of over 15 years, in October, I had felt lost without a dog to love and care for - so being a 'Barking Mad' host was ideal for me. We're so looking forward to our next doggie guest, and also hope to see Sheba again at some time in the future."
Celia - 8th Jan, 2016
"My last visitor, Pip, was an absolute sweetie. A breed I've not had experience of before and a real delight. She came to me for just a few days before going on to her regular family.
She loved her bed - well actually my bed - and when she was ready to go up at night she would stand at the bottom of the stairs, with one paw on the bottom step, and stare at me until I gave in."
Elaine - 9th Nov, 2015
"We really love our holiday dogs, we like to spoil them, love them, lots of cuddles and make sure they are really happy with us, it's lovely to get the same dog(s) over and over again, they just make themselves at home, and all our dogs know where the 'treat' cupboard is.. We get such a lot of love from them and look forward to them returning."
Sarah and Stan - 9th Nov, 2015
"We adore having new Barking Mad dogs come to stay and love it even more when they return for second and third visits. Its such a pleasure to spend time with these much loved dogs and take them for walks on the beach and around the countryside. We know that when our 'crazy' Collie goes to stay with a Barking Mad host, she will be safe, happy, and much loved."
Liz - 4th Nov, 2015
"We have really enjoyed hosting our last two dogs, Nelson and Finn. As a family we enjoy meeting the new dogs and letting them be a part of our family, albeit only for a while. It is good to know if we have any issues we can just call Emily. We hope to keep hosting even when we get our own dog, (something my husband would never have agreed to until he realized how complete a dog makes a home)."
Debra - 4th Nov, 2015
"We have had a full calendar for October starting with a surprise arrival as another host was sadly taken poorly. Ruby arrived within 40 minutes of the phone call but soon settled in and became a family favorite. Then came Azi, she takes over our lives but ooh how we love her. Lastly we had Jess, an old lurcher who turned into a puppy again when it was walkies time. Each very different but all very lovable."
Diana - 15th Oct, 2015
"I have always had dogs since I was born, having lived on a farm. I cannot remember ever being without dogs. Now I am on my own it is great to have more than one dog.
I am a dog lover, plus Kali my lab just love to go on walks and have company at home.
So we are both very happy bunnies"
Nicky - 13th Oct, 2015
"I started pet sitting nine years ago for Barking Mad.
It is very enjoyable and I love the country and Beach Walks. I have to make an effort to get out with the dogs here.
I have many regulars that come year after year. Each dog has its separate character. With the pairs I love watching the integration between the two dogs.
I work for Ian Carney who pays a lot of attention to detail, doesn't mind going over things with me if I am not sure and always makes sure the dog is familiar with my bungalow before he leaves. He always promptly answers the phone and I feel that I am not alone with the responsibility of someone else's dog.
My life would be empty without Barking Mad.

"Having just said goodbye to our 2nd holiday dog whom we've enjoyed entertaining and looking after. We look forward to our next dog!"
Carole - 21st Sep, 2015
"Nicola and her team always go the extra mile to ensure they are acting in the dogs best interest. If there is any doubt about a dogs health she will always act accordingly so that the owners can rest assured that there dog will get the best possible attention and the owner can relax and enjoy their holiday. We have always welcomed all our lovely dogs for holidays and they enjoy their stay.
Keep up the good work and keep sending these lovely dogs for their holidays that they can enjoy.
A first class team who cares unreservably for the dogs in their care. Posted by Carole"
Debra - 17th Sep, 2015
"We have just enjoyed a lovely long weekend with Roxy the staffy. She is so well behaved we hardly knew she was there but now she has gone our home is a quieter sadder place. This is why we love Barking Mad as each dog gives us a smile!"
Sarah and Stan - 9th Sep, 2015
"We love taking our four legged holiday friends for walks through the fields and to the beach, Its a privilege to get to know the new dogs and become friends and really special when they come back to us for a repeat holiday full of cuddles and fun."
Angela - 21st Aug, 2015
"I have just become a host for Barking Mad and recently cared for my first dog, a lovely old Labrador. He fitted in so well with my own two dogs and I thoroughly enjoyed giving him a special holiday for a few days and am really looking forward to helping out again. It is something very dear to my heart and feel I am being of use to others in providing a safe and welcoming home from home for someone's beloved pet. Plus my own pets also enjoy the company."
Elaine - 21st Aug, 2015
"We love looking after our holiday dogs, they are all really lovely, friendly and usually make themselves at home straight away. We especially like to have the same dog back time after time and they always look really pleased to see us again."

"I love having dogs I was brought up with my father's GunDogs we always had 2 or 3 at a time. A friend saw you advertising for people to look after them while a way on holiday or just for a week- end. So I did just that. I loved having Maisie also Kali loved it as well."
Cynthia - 10th Aug, 2015
"My Barking Mad dogs, many of whom come back again and again, light up my life. They are all different, with different hopes and needs, and getting to know them and earn their trust and affection is pure joy. They go everywhere with me, visiting friends, shopping, and of course on lots of nice healthy walks, good for me as well as them. Total strangers have become friends, stopping me in the street with "What's this one's name, then?" - or even, on between days, with a disappointed "No dog today?"
God bless BM, my area manager Ian, my owners, and first and foremost, all my dogs."
Celia - 4th Aug, 2015
"Rolo has just gone home after his weekend trial. He passed with flying colours. 10/10 I would say and I'm looking forward to his return towards the end of the week.
Well done Emily - you worked out straight away what sort of dogs are best suited to my situation. Quicker than I did."
Pam & Ray - 21st Jul, 2015
"After a year of being without a dog it was great to have not one but two dogs in the house. To see two little faces greeting us from their crate when we returned home was lovely. They settled in well and Emily made sure we were happy with them. Our grandchildren who live opposite were constantly here playing with them, which they adored. If only we had heard about Barking Mad when we were dog owners and didn't want to use kennels!!!!!!!!"
Filomena - 9th Jul, 2015
"Having Pebbles for a few days was delightful and Finley enjoyed the company. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of dealing with a dog other than my own and understanding her needs.
She seemed extremely happy and made herself at home immediately. All doggie friends on park enjoyed meeting her and she was in her element.
Great fun all round."
Mary - 8th Jul, 2015
"I've often asked myself why on earth anyone would want to be a host for Barking Mad. Belly rubs, staffie, Henry's smelly farts, being first out in pristine snow, pickle's snoring (how the walls vibrate), watching Starsky grow from a gangling four month pup into a well behaved teenager. I can go on and on but my favourite is sleeping on the settee on a hot afternoon having a 'nana nap' with a happy, contented pooch sleeping on my stomach dreaming of rabbits.
In 2014 I looked after 24 different dogs, most of whom returned numerous times. So far this year I've had 18 from little to large to very large (ah yes - Dudley). If I put my foot down and ask for time out to have a holiday myself then I get those puppy dog eyes from Ian (the boss) suggesting that I would love to take a dog with me. I generally succumb and thoroughly enjoy our time together.
Would I recommend being a Barking Mad host to anyone else? Having a boss like Ian who is very keen and hands on makes being a host easier. Should anything crop up he will be straight round to deal with it. I love hosting and would urge those people who are thinking about it to have a go. Where else can you wake up to a pair of soulful eyes, a lolling tongue and a wet nose in your immediate field of vision - that's enough about the old man!
Hi you folks at head office. I have spoken to Ian and he says that if you use this can you put it on both his Bath and Dorset sites please. Many thanks. Mary xx"

"Having lost my beloved 15-year-old Westie last July I decided to sign up as a Host with Barking Mad towards the end of the year.
To be honest the first dog that came to me didn't really suit me and I wasn't sure I would do it again. But Emily persuaded me to have another try and I've had several dogs since which have all been delightful. My favourite, Lulu, has just gone home after her third visit.
I know she loves coming to me and I love having her."

"I love looking after all the different types of dogs that come for there holiday with me. I love caring for them as if they where my own. It gets me out and about meeting new people and their dogs too. All the dogs I've had come everywhere with me and even though each dog had a different personality they where all great to have. I look forward to caring for more dogs as well as caring for the same dogs that i have had."
Brian and Carole - 27th May, 2015
"Just coming to the end of another period of hosting a Barking Mad dog on holiday. We really appreciate what Nicola and her team do to connect the right dog to the right family. After having dogs all our lives the time came for us not to be selfish and home another dog in later life. Barking Mad filled that gap and we adore giving a home from home holiday to these special dogs. It's just what we wanted for our dogs rather than kennels.
We feel privileged to be a host for Barking Mad and look forward to giving the next dog with a good home, a good holiday.
Nicola and her team are very professional and give the owners and host families a very professional approach which makes a good holiday for the dogs and a lot of fun and satisfaction for the hosts.
Keep up the good work and can't wait for the next dog to come on holiday. Thank you to you all. Brian and Carole"

"I have loved having the pugs, a breed I've been thinking about getting. Was so nice to have a dog in the house again. All very well behaved and was nice to know Emily was always on call should the need arise. Looking forwards to my next house guest. Sue"

"Lulu, a delightful little Coton de Tulear, was collected from me yesterday after a nine-day stay. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I was sorry to see her go. - Can't wait for her to come back again."
Elaine & Tony - 26th Feb, 2015
"Love looking after our holiday dogs. It's a brilliant, well run company, with people who really do care about the dogs, I would highly recommend to would be hosts or dog owners who can rest assured their babies will be well looked after."
Liz - 25th Feb, 2015
"Really enjoyed having Hamish. Appreciated the support, from Emily, with the walking issue and the fact I could call if any issues.
Next dog please.
Hayley - 25th Feb, 2015
"Me and my family love being a part of the Barking mad team! It makes me feel happy knowing the dog isnt in kennels and instead having a fun time in the our home. Its also great for my own two dogs, it gives them the chance to make new friends and socialise with other dogs all shapes and sizes!"
VLG - 8th Jan, 2015
"I recently hosted my first little visitors from Barking Mad. I was slightly nervous having 3 at once, but I need not have been concerned, Emily was very good with lots of info about what I needed to do.
They very quickly settled in and I really enjoyed having their companionship. I loved taking them out each day and watching them play with their toys."
Shirley - 1st Dec, 2014
"It's now twelve years since I first asked Barking Mad to look after our lovely Boxer Amber.Later,we became hosts and since Amber died,Barking Mad has helped to fulfill our enjoyment of canine companionship with dogs of many different breeds and temperament.
It is lovely when we have repeat visitors,to know that their owners are just as pleased with the Barking Mad service and care of their cherished dogs as I was with Amber."
Carole and Brian - 19th Nov, 2014
"Had a wonderful three weeks with Molly she really enjoyed her holiday. Thanks Nicola you were very supportive and explained every thing needed for Molly to enjoy her stay.
Looking forward to our next visitor.

"We love the opportunity of hosting dogs as we no longer have of our own. This is a great way of having a dog around the house without the commitment of owning a dog."
Liz - 30th Sep, 2014
"My family and I love being hosts as it gives us the chance to meet lots of different dogs and get to know them.
The house feels empty once the dog has gone but we really enjoy giving the dogs a holiday and the owners piece of mind that this member of their family is being cared for safely and for a few days is a part of our family.
It is always good to know that Emily is on the end of the phone for support and the clear guidelines from the owners let us know what the dog enjoys and what their routines are."
Bruan and Carole - 22nd Sep, 2014
"We have just had our first dog on holiday and jess was a pleasure to have. We have always had dogs but lost our last one a year ago. It was a hard decision not to have another, but our age is against commiting to owning another. We saw a local advert for hosts and Nicola from barking mad made the whole process so easy.
Its the best decision we could have made and cant wait for our next doggy to come for a holiday. They make the house a home again. We love it. Thanks Nicola."
Monica - 28th Aug, 2014
"I lost my dog after 15 yrs together , so Barking Mad is ideal for me, I so enjoy having my doggy visitors, every one of them have their own characteristics, which is so nice to discover, whether they like playing ball, or tug of war with one of their toys, and I enjoy our walks as much as they do as well. "How does one sum up being a Barking Mad host? Fun, good loving company, enjoyable healthy exercise and sociable walks when holiday dogs are here. When they are not, then time alone to relax, visit friends, have days out, holidays etc, but soon something is missing. You can't beat doggy company! So I look forward to my next 4 legged holiday guest.
When they arrive I read their notes (what to feed, when to walk, favourite games) all the information I need to make them feel at home. Together we enjoy their holiday and I help them write a holiday post card at the end of their stay!
Life couldn't be better, especially when they come again and their body language, eyes and tail all say 'great to be back, let's have more fun.' Penny the Patterdale, Ellie the Collie, Riley and Alfie thank you for coming into my life. I'm sure you are the first of many more holiday makers who I'll enjoy welcoming into this holiday home for dogs.
When my 16 year old Bonnie went to doggie heaven recently I couldn't decide whether or not to get another dog. There were advantages on both sides, so I got in touch with Barking Mad and with help from Nicola I became a holiday home for dogs. It's great fun, varied, flexible and rewarding; The benefits of having a dog whenever you want, without being tied all the time.
Thank you Barking Mad for enhancing my life.

"I have always owned animals but current circumstances don't allow me to commit full time to the care of a pet. I missed so much not having one around, saw the advert for Barking Mad and Barking Mad took me on. It is the perfect solution! I have had the privilege of looking after some wonderful dogs, enjoying walks and cuddles with my little friends. Now I always have a doggie to look forward to, some of them stay with me regularly, which is especially fun. Any drawbacks? - having to return my little friends at the end of their holiday!
Becoming a Barking Mad Host is one of the best decisions I have ever made!!"
Mavis - 30th Jun, 2014
"I have been hosting for Barking Mad for almost six years now, and have so much enjoyed the company of some beautiful dogs of many breeds. I didn't want to get another dog of my own, so this was a perfect solution to have the opportunity of having a lovely dog for company, walks and fun, and yet be free to go away whenever I chose. As time goes by, certain dogs return for repeated holidays, which proves that a happy dog means a happy owner who entrusts their much loved pet to you. Barking Mad is a well structured company, and it is always good to know that 24hr support is on hand if ever needed."
Bernie & Susie - 24th Jun, 2014
"Although new to Barking Mad its been one of the best things we have done living on a small farm we have space and plenty of local walks to offer our wonderful friends who have stayed with us. each one is missed and we long for their return.
We have set up a gallery of our new friends and find great pleasure looking at the moments they have shared with us."
Niccola - 4th Jun, 2014
"I can honestly say that being a host for barking mad has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. It has helped me physically, emotionally and financially. After losing my own dearly loved Jack Russell I decided I couldn't have another dog to go through the pain of losing it again. Then along came Barking Mad, it must be nearly 7 years ago now and I've never looked back. All the dogs are such a pleasure and a joy to care for. You love them like they are your own and yes, you miss them when they go home but you know there will be another little one on its way to fill the space very soon . The best thing is that they do all come back regularly so your home really does become a home from home, it is wonderful when they come in and you know they are as happy to see you again as you are to see them. It really is the best thing, everything is in place to ensure you have 24hr help and support if necessary. You can specify what type or size of dog you prefer and also specify when you are available. Basically if you're happy the dog is happy and vice versa."
Karen - 27th May, 2014
"This has been my first week as a host of Barking Mad and I/we are loving
it! My first dog guest was Maisie a bearded collie cross. She stayed with us
for the weekend and was such a pleasure to look after. We had lots of fun at
the beaches and parks. We then had lovely little Malcolm a jack Russell cross.
He was very excitable but settled very quickly. He loved playing in the back garden and on
our walks where he came across rabbits, horses and even hens. We are looking
forward to getting gorgeous Bertie very soon. The house seems strange when we
don't have a doggy guest now.
Thanks again, Brad.
Karen, Brian, Nico and Dylan."
Barbara & Peter - 23rd May, 2014
"Our "visitors" have become part of our family over the years. They are as different as our children, and, just like our kids, we love them to bits. Nicola has proved to be a good friend as well as a wonderful "boss". Of course, we do spoil our dogs but they are on their holiday!"
Bev & Ellie - 15th May, 2014
"We love the flexibilty of having different dogs to look after, and we have a few regulars now, especially over half term and school holidays, they bring such fun into the house, with their own individual personalities, we shower them with love and affection (as would their owners) and get very attached - but we know they have to go home, till the next time..."
Cid - 15th May, 2014
"There are so many reasons to love having dogs come to stay with us..... we love having a variety of sizes and breeds and personalities, there's always something to delight us! My boys love having dogs around to play with, and they don't get bored with walking them or feeding them because there's always something different. We get such fantastic characters come and stay with us, they get us out and about, they fill the house with wonderful dogginess. If there's a downside, it's the sadness when they go back home..... until our next doggy friend comes to stay, that is!"

"I enquired about being a host following my friends' dog being on a 'Barking Mad' holiday. As soon as I met Tina I decided that I would like to become a host, because I was impressed by her friendly professionalism and her genuine love of meeting the needs of dogs and their owners. I have been very well matched with some delightful canine companions! I look forward to the regulars and to meeting new dogs. I have not had any problems as such, but appreciate the speed of response and action from Tina, Colin and Carol-Ann when I have needed information or help with something. I might also add that that Tina, Colin and Carol-Ann are as lovely as the dogs they bring!"
Mick and Shirley - 22nd Apr, 2014
"When we retired, we considered getting a dog of our own. We'd had lots of dogs whilst the children were young but it had been a few years since our last one had died. However, we planned to travel so thought perhaps it wasn't a sensible idea. Then one day, Shirley overheard a conversation about Barking Mad.....and the rest is history! Tina was brilliant - her passion and love for the animals was obvious and we warmed to her straight away. Very soon after, Charlotte, a chocolate Labrador, came to stay with us for 2 weeks. Charlotte adopted us and gave us all her love, attention and affection. The walks, the fresh air, the laughter we had with her were excellent. We said "goodbye" and looked forward to our next dog. Since 2011, when we became hosts, we've had lots of different dogs and return visits from a number of them. It's great getting to know their personalities and learning about them. Tina is always available to consult if there are any difficulties. If anyone is considering becoming a host, we would strongly recommend it. We've never regretted it for one moment! We've just returned from 9 weeks travelling and are desperate to meet our next four legged house guest!"
Karen and Paul - 17th Apr, 2014
"A house isn't a home without a dog in it. Our labrador, Hero loves to have a friend for a couple weeks - they have lots of fun running and playing together, then Hero gets a rest before the next doggy visitor arrives. There's something very special about a wagging tail, and a doggy greeting! We're very pleased we found Barking Mad and treat all our visitors as we would expect Hero to be treated - with love and respect."

"My family used Barking Mad initially for our own dog Sally. She was an old labrador and I never wanted her to be put in kennels when we went on holiday. Tina at Barking Mad came out and totally put our minds at ease. We were shown various hosts, their gardens and all Sally's needs were taken care of. This made us feel so relaxed going on holiday knowing Sally was in the best hands, literally home from home care. She was, most of the time, homed with the same family which was even more reassuring! Sally did take poorly when we were on holiday once and we were up-dated daily by Tina and Barking Mad took extremely good care of her, I will never forget them for that. When Sally passed away a few years ago we knew we didn't want to get another dog and decided on being a host family. It really is the best of both worlds. My 12 year old son particularly loves dogs coming to stay and the love we get from them. We've had all sorts of different dogs and characters. However, as we are busy during school holidays etc, we can select when we would like to take dogs. We have the freedom now and it's so much fun. The great thing is we know we have the back up and support from Tina which is fantastic. If things sometimes don't work out Tina is there to help and even take a dog should we be unable to look after it (which is a very rare occurrence as Tina is excellent at selecting the right dog for the right host). We take lots of photographs for the owners which Tina emails to them, should they wish, on holiday. We also write a little postcard for the families so they know what their pet has been up to while they have been away. It really is a fantastic company and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. If you are wanting company from a dog but without the full time commitment then look no further than Barking Mad. Go on, give it a try.......!"
Sue and Paul - 17th Apr, 2014
"We became hosts for Barking Mad, thinking it would be good to have a dog occasionally and the exercise would be good for us, being retired we need to keep going!!
Tina impressed us immediately..she really works hard at matching the dogs to the people. We love dogs that are good fun on their walks, but behave in the house (who doesn't?) and we have had a range of young and old, big and small and lots and lots of Labradors. If there has been a problem e.g. The dog needs the vet to check something, Tina, Colin or Carol Ann arrive and take the animal to the vet. We had one dog who obviously wasn't happy, and frankly was making us unhappy, perhaps pining for its owner, and Tina took it and looked after it herself. So we never have to worry that we are stuck with an animal that we don't get on with.
Tina has become a good friend, and her team of Colin and Carol Ann are so professional and caring with the animals it is a pleasure to 'do business' with them.
If you are thinking of being a host, do try it...you have a lot of fun, I enjoy the caring for some of the older ones as well as running round with the young ones, without the responsibility of having your own animal. Posted by Sue and Paul Allcroft"

"Due to health issues I am unable to have a dog of my own. Being a host for barking mad means I can have the company and pleasure of a dog, for a period of time with out the resposibility and cost of owning a dog myself. It is nice to know that as a host I can enable owners to have a break safe in the knowledge that their dog is being cared for by someone whose aim it is to give the dog a holiday in a friendly loving enviorment."

"I have been a host for nearly 9 years with my husband and now I am on my own. It is an absolute absolute pleasure to have my little dogs come to stay! I have regular ones and find it a privilege to be trusted with someones pet. They are my friends and it gives me something to focus on meet other dog lovers as well.

"My husband and I thoroughly enjoy being hosts for dogs. Faye is great and runs a valuable service. Every dog we have has it's own wee personality and we grow to love them more and more every day. They are like little rays of sunshine in our home. We are so happy we decided to be hosts. We love it."

"It is a real pleasure for us to look after so many varied dogs and hopefully give them a great time in a caring way close to their home life.Have done this now for over 3 years with nothing but positive experiences and would fully recommend being a host."

"We are the lucky ones that get to look after your lovely dogs my family and i enjoy it because we get to meet so many different characters and they are all individual and whilst they are with us they are treated as part of our family. We love dogs but because of work commitments we can only host during the school holidays so we are always looking forward to our new guest arriving and we hope to be part of Barking Mad for a very long time."
Hi, My name is Tom and I am very proud to be the owner of Barking Mad Purley and North East Surrey.
I was a long standing customer of Barking Mad and I had the opportunity to become involved in running one of their territories I jumped at the chance to set up a family business. This meant i had to give up my tennis coaching where I was at the mercy of the elements either roasting or freezing on court depending on the season.
I have always owned Golden Retrievers. Meg is a mischievous white retriever who has been part of our family for the past 6 years and still behaves like a puppy! My first dog Amber was a typical Golden Retriever, everyone’s best friend. Amber was truly a globetrotting dog: she was born in Hong Kong, relocated to New York and then finally settled down in the UK. It was her experience in quarantine kennels that made me keen to find an alternative home for her whenever I went on holiday. I was introduced to Barking Mad and both Amber and Meg have had many enjoyable holidays with their wonderful hosts ever since.
When my suitcase is being packed, Meg focuses on the front door, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Barking Mad car. She can barely contain herself and goes off on holiday to her host with hardly a backward glance.
I look forward to meeting you and your dog(s) and placing them in the safe hands of our experienced dog loving hosts so that you can enjoy your holiday.
Once I get to know you and your dog I will ensure that I match them with the best host to suit them. After you have set off on your holiday I will send you a message letting you know that your dog has settled in well so that you can relax safe in the knowledge that your dog is having fun too.
I am always looking for new hosts so if you are a dog lover with a secure garden who would like to care for a dog and join our host community then I would love to hear from you. You will get all of the benefits of dog ownership but without the full time or financial commitment.
I would love to hear from you if you are interested in becoming a host, or arranging a holiday for your own dog. You can reach me on 0208 660 2697 or email@example.com.

Kimmy had a wonderful holiday with Robert and loved all her cuddles.
Thank you all for looking after her.
Highly recommend Barking Mad. Our elderly dog comes back happy and well cared for. Hosts matched to dog's requirements.
Tom and Chris are very professional and lovely with our dog.
Zippy has just spent an enjoyable few days with his Barking Mad hosts. This is the first time we have used Barking Mad and the organisation from the outset was fantastic. I wanted our dog to be in a loving home environment where he would be well looked after, and have a great time. Tom made the entire process really easy. He spent time at the outset getting to know Zippy’s daily routine and matching him with a host. We had pre-arranged collection and return times, a text letting us know that Zippy had settled in well and a photo of him with his hosts. We will definitely use Barking Mad again - it is such a relief to know that we can go away without worrying about Zippy's care.
Another very successful holiday for our black lab Oscar.
Well organised excellent communication - always love getting the "arrival" photo and text saying he has settled in well.
He has been back to a previous holiday home last week and has come back full of beans and looking very well!
we will need to start thinking about our next holiday!!
This weekend was the first break Rhoda has had with Barking Mad as she is now 7 months old. The whole process was very well organised and straight forward, Rhoda being collected and delivered back as planned. She seems to have had a great time with her sitters and we can now plan other holidays with complete confidence, knowing that Rhoda will be happy and well looked after.
Another lovely holiday for Maisy.
A contented dog and a happy owner!
I have used Barking Mad for a few years and have always been very happy with the service provided. I have peace of mind when away knowing Georgie is in a safe and loving environment. Love the pictures and postcard on return, really nice touch. Thank you so much.
Rolo had another happy holiday with Matthew. (Sorry about the snoring Matthew). Tom collected Rolo on time and brought him back on time too. Rolo raced into the house and settled back immediately. He must have had a good time as he sometimes sulks when he comes home as we have gone on holiday without him. Thanks Tom.
barking mad provided a very good service in placing our dog and ensuring there were not any problems whilst we were away. our dog came back really happy with no issues.
tom and chris go that extra step in following up their placements. That makes us feel very confident in choosing barking mad in the future.
Another successful stay for Bella at her holiday home / second family as she tends to go back to the same family now which is great, stress free for us knowing she's happy and being well cared for. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
had a lovely holiday with barking mad........i was picked up and dropped off on time, had a nice feed back note from my carers and a picture of me was sent to my owners just to reassure them i was ok.
looking forward to my next trip.
Many thanks for looking after our two dogs while we were away. The extra care you have shown our elderly girl was much appreciated.
We will certainly be using your services again and will be happy to recommend you.
My Labrador Junior went on his holiday for 25 days and came back very happy as always. He always has a great time at the hosts and I have the peace of mind that he is in good hands. He has medication on a daily basis and this gives me the comfort that he will be in a home environment and safe and sound while I am away.
Thank you Tom and Chris for arranging everything, the delivery works so well and Junior is always so excited to go and jumps enthusiastically into the car.
I have used Barking Mad many times and am still extremely happy and will use them next time.
Thanks Tom and Chris for placing Finn with great hosts for his recent holiday with Barking Mad. He came home tired and happy. We have always had great service from Barking Mad and feel happy to go away knowing Finn is in good hands.
Such a brilliant service. It's so good to know that Copper is being looked after so well and enjoying himself while we were away. Copper loves the sight of Tom as he knows he's going somewhere exciting.
Copper is a very strong Staffi, and can be hard to walk, as the lady who looked after him this time found out. But Tom went round every afternoon to give him a walk and help out which we were so impressed by.
Thanks again for an excellent service.
Thank you Tom and Chris. Although she had not met Chris before Kimmy relaxed very quickly with him and didn't howl on the way to Pat. Quite an achievement !
Many thanks to Pat who looked after her so well. I think she misses her.
Excellent service as always and teddy always looks happy thank you
Having used Barking Mad with my previous dog Poppy for eight years and knowing the care they provide, I didn't hesitate booking a 'holidog' with them for my very hypersensitive rescue doggy. I really would not go anywhere else having experienced the "home from home" care that is provided. I can have complete trust in them which is so important to me when it comes to my canine best friend!
Buttons is so very sensitive as he was severely abused and he was placed with the perfect host for his first time away from home. He returned to me extremely calm and happy and I am delighted that he seems so relaxed.
My dog is family to me. I need to know that he is not just completely safe but comfortable and enjoying himself too whilst I'm away.
Barking Mad gives me this peace of mind.
You could say he goes to Barking Mad... because he's worth it.
Great service from new managers Chris and Tom. Bella gets excited as soon as she sees the car pull up until the minute she gets home again and has such a lovely time at her host family, I'm not completely sure she wants to come home! Post holiday blues all round ???? This is a huge relief though for our fourth family member that she's having an equally good holiday as us. Cannot recommend enough.
I have used Barking Mad before, and every time been very happy.
Maddie came back very content, in fact she seemed like if she had gone back to her hosts, she wouldn't have minded.
I would recommend Barking Mad to everyone, I never worry about Maddie when I am away.
so pleased to have barking mad to take care of Madge our labradoodle.
she has had 2 holidays with them and Madge has returned totally relaxed and unstressed. Stephen is very professional in his approach and provides the confidence you need when leaving your pet with someone you have not previously met.
Our boy's Jack & Max spent a few day's with their host family,Mavis. They must of had a fab time as they fell fast asleep on their return! I like the personal touch from Stephen & the team that's why kennels would never be a option.Stephen seem's to remember the boys & their mannerism's,Hyper Jack Russell's.I would love to thank Mavis for the postcard on their return & I know they will be back to visit again for longer. Thankyou for keeping my mind at rest Stephen, will be in touch when our next break/holiday comes up.Thoroughly recommend Barking Mad for their services.
I am so happy to have found Barking Mad. I cannot praise their care of my yorkie,Tyler, highly enough. He has several ailments and is not easy to care for, however Stephen found the perfect Host for him. He was lovingly cared for by Carole and I was more than happy to leave him in her care, he spent a very happy holiday with her and I spent a happy holiday knowing he would be so well loved and cared for.
Stephen provides a professional and caring service.
When Billy needed to visit the vet whilst we were away Stephen kept me updated and fully informed at every stage giving me confidence that Billy was receiving the best possible care in my absence
As usual Rene has had a very successful holiday. He arrived back home very happy and bouncy so I know he has had a good time. I really appreciate the pick up and drop off facility. It really makes a difference when trying to organise a break, two things less to stress over.
I always recommend Barking Mad as the solution to pet holidays. Vetted Host families who are matched to your pet's particular needs. You cannot ask for more.
We were very pleased with the comprehensive assessment of our dog to ensure a good match of his needs and an appropriate carer.
We appreciated the updates and the overall level of care and will be happy to ask for further help if we ever need to leave Yogi in the future.
Tilly has been on holiday with barking mad for 7-8 years, we have complete faith in the organisation, they take such great care placing your dog with the right hosts.
Tilly gets very excited when Stephen arrives and looks forward to seeing her friends again, always comes home happy and contented, she is a very important member of our family so if she is happy then so are we and can go away with confidence that she is being well cared for.
Stephen looked after our boys Jack & Max (our two Jack Russell's) for a day .I thoroughly recommend the service he provides for dogs needing a home from home .We had a bad experience with our previous dog sitter/kennels which ended sadly so I am a neurotic Mother now! & so pleased I found Stephen & Barking Mad. His knowledge of the breed I cannot falter ,he also went above & beyond by sending me a txt plus photo of them settling in.We have already booked for November when we are away.Such a piece of mind to know the boys are happy thanks again Stephen ,regards LIsa
Alfie is bouncing with joy when Stephen arrives is immensly happy with Mena & Bill and very sulky when he returns home!! I have been using Barking Mad for some years & cannot fault the service or hosts would highly recommend to any dog owner.
This is now the third time we have used the hospitality of Barking Mad and are immensely pleased with the holidays that they have given us and Honey, our beautiful Goldie who has come back to us every time so bubbly and excited!
Best to you all......David & Pauline
Finn has recently returned from another great holiday with Barking Mad. There is no other choice for us when we go away- we know he is well looked after in a lovely home environment. He always comes back tired and happy!
We regularly recommend Barking Mad to friends, as we have always been happy with Monty's holiday experience. Monty has a few health issues but we have always have our minds put at rest about his situation while we are away. An excellent service. Posted by Trudi
We have used Barking Mad twice and been been happy with the service. Our boy has returned with a wagging tail! What more can you ask!
I was very pleased with the service we received from Barking Mad. The booking was all done very efficiently, and our Lexy was duly collected and returned on the appropriate days. Come next year, we will certainly be contacting Steve if we go on holiday.
Emie recently had a lovely break with Bill and Mena. We loved seeing the pictures of her obviously chillaxing in their garden and she looked a very happy girl.
Thanks again for your tips on dog walking, we too notice she seems to calm down if she's walking between 2 people.
Barking Mad as usual up to their excellent standard!
We have been using Barking Mad for many years now and our dog is always well cared for and has a great time on her holiday! It's a wonderful service to have our dog collected and returned to our house knowing she has been staying with people who enjoy her company. She is walked every day and is always very excited with Stephen shows up for her next adventure with a host. I will continue to recommend Barking Mad to all dog owners I know.
I have used Barking Mad for years now and have always been very happy with the care and attention given to our dog. We have and continue to recommend them, we can holiday knowing our dog is getting lots of love and attention. Georgie obviously has a great time as she has comes back after a three week stay happy and relaxed. A very professional service which takes the worry of leaving your dog away.
Bella has happily returned from yet another successful stay with a host family. I am sure she is more keen to go on her holiday than we are when she sees Stephen turn up in the Barking Mad car. Lovely to get photos of her mid stay and the postcard at the end, it's a great personal touch. Throughly recommend using them for a happy post holiday dog.
Our dog came home healthy and very happy!
We cannot fault Steve and his hosts. Gramps had his trial visit only 2 days after an operation, nothing was too much trouble and he was looked after very well. thankyou Steve and your host family.
It took some persuading to let our precious Westie Lucie be placed in the care of another family, as it was something we had not had to consider before. She recently spent a lovely week with her host Auntie Pat and seemed to thoroughly enjoy herself. We will have no qualms about trusting Stephen and Barking Mad with the care of Lucie in the future.
Thanks again Heather for looking after Emie for us recently. She came back to ours a very happy and relaxed little lady! She's already looking forward to her next visit (and thanks also for giving her extra dog food - we will not make that mistake again!!) Kind regards, Bernie Violet & Peter Lawrence.
Once again a very happy dog returned home from her holidays, barking mad are a very professional and caring organisation and we have used them for several years and are always very satisfied with our pets care, they take great pride in matching your dog with the right 'hosts'
We have a very needy dog and she has always been treated and looked after just like home from home.
Very professional service. Poppy had clearly had fun and we were relieved she passed her trial visit as she is a bit OCD about her routines. I am confident she will now be happy and excited about future holidays!
As always Rolo runs off down our front steps with Steve without a backward glance. This proves to us that although Rolo may well be one of Steve's more difficult dogs, he is very happy to go on holiday with Barking Mad. We are extremely grateful to Steve for his help in placing Rolo with the right host family as we fully recognise that he is not easy due to his fear/dislike of other dogs. The service Steve gives us is much appreciated. Sorry to all the hosts for Rolo's appalling snoring!
Fabulous service: door to door delivery: Steve always lets us know if there is a change in delivery/collection times.
Rene enjoys his holiday. No he cannot speak; but to see how he welcomes Steve and how happy and relaxed he is on return, I know he has been ok. I always weigh him prior to his stay away and his weight has remained constant. My theory is he would lose condition if he was unhappy.
His hosts, Meena and Bill give a photograph record of his time with them. Rene is a nervous 'rehome' and I was very apprehensive using Barking Mad, but with the positive experience Rene has had,I would not hesitate to recommend them. Posted by Ann Bryant
Great personal service, we love the postcard we received from Bailey! Absolute best. Thank you for looking after Bailey so well.
Once again we would like to thank Stephen and the team for taking care of our two girls at short notice.
As always they come back lively, well behaved and physically tired which means they have been exercised throughout.
Stephen is now our only point of call when it comes to Deminka and Laika as no one else could come close to offering the provided level of service.
We were nervous about leaving our dog when we were going on holiday as she is getting elderly and was lame with ligament damage. Stephen assured us that she would be looked after according to her needs. We are very grateful that we met Stephen and our dog was well looked after very well, as promised, and she came back to us very happy.
Very pleased with all the holidays organised for Rene'. He is a rehome and a nervous little dog and I was very concerned that he would not settle. I need not have worried. Steve has matched him with very suitable Carers. Not only do I get a postcard, but also a photo report of Rene' having a really relaxing time. He has returned each time totally calm and is quite happy to go with Steve when he calls to collect him for his next break. A very good experience for all and definitely an improvement on kennels.
When we first tried Barking Mad we were very cautious as we had never used them before. However within minutes of being with her new hosts, Stephen had sent a photo of Honey tripping around the garden happy as Larry. That especially put my mind at rest so when she came back after 3 days she and I were joyfully reunited, safe in the knowledge that all parties had had a brilliant time. Since then Honey has been with another great family and has loved every minute. I can tell that because when I mention their names she stops and looks around expectantly.
Thanks to the brilliant organisation and the loving hosts..........David and Pauline.
The service is first class giving dog owners peace of mind knowing their pet is being cared for on an individual basis by former/current dog owners in a home environment!
Bonnie has been on 'holiday' with Barking Mad several times. Whilst she can't tell me, she is very excited when Stephen comes to collect, waits by his car, and hops in as soon as the boot is open!
She is scared of other dogs so kennels would be terrible for her. This works brilliantly and we have no concerns leaving her.
We are very happy to have found somewhere for our Lola to go when we are away. She adores Stephen and is always pleased to see him which is extremely reassuring. The whole process from booking to collection and return couldn't be simpler and I would thoroughly recommend to all. Thank you for such a great service Stephen.
Very professional and efficient. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend or to use again. Thank You.
Tyler and I would like to thank you for finding such a lovely host for him, Debi has looked after him so well, I’m sure Tyler enjoyed being with Tim as well, I think sometimes he misses male company. This was just perfect and I can REALLY look forward to my holiday now, knowing Tyler will be so well cared for.
Our weimaraner hated going to kennels so much and lost lots of weight when there, so we decided to try Barking Mad. He has now stayed with Stephen three times and comes back very happy and healthy. He seems to love the continuous contact with the host and their dog and had even learnt to not pull as much on the lead – an added bonus!
Another holiday for Rolo successfully completed in December. It's such a relief to know that he's so well looked after by his host family in Sanderstead. Thanks to Steve and Tina everything goes to plan and we can go on holiday with no worries about our neurotic pooch. Sorry hosts that he barks at other dogs on the TV. He doesn't like intruders in the room! One trip for 2015 already booked and we've also recommended Barking Mad to our son and daughter-in-law for Rolo's buddy Jenson over near Woking. Many thanks for all your hard work Steve.
Our precious Tilly has been with BM for 7 years and as always very happy in her 'holiday' home and this is very assuring to us. BM always puts the dog first with a professional and friendly attitude, their service is first class and we will always recommend to other dog owners.
We can go away and know without doubt that Tilly will always be part of the family and thoroughly spoilt and very happy.
Very frightened German Shepherd has just come back from her 3rd Barking Mad holiday. Testimony to how happy she has been is the fact that she wants to jump back into Steve's car. Fantastic, very grateful to her temporary owners
Very efficient, friendly service. Appreciated card from Jerry and positive feedback from his carers. Jerry was very relaxed and happy on his return which was great as he is now an old timer of 14 yrs.
I had arranged for my very bouncy 15 month old Golden Retriever to go into kennels for the weekend we were away but he developed kennel cough and couldn't go. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, for without it I would not have come across Barking Mad who arranged for him to stay in a member's home (without other dogs) at very short notice. I was very impressed with the professionalism shown, the indepth questions concerning his behaviour and temperament and the lengths taken to find a mutually suitable home. The dog seemed to enjoy himself and came back really happy. The host family even sent a lovely "Wish You Were Here" card (from the dog) telling me what he was getting up to! I would definitely use Barking Mad again and will recommend it to my friends. Shame they don't take kids for the weekend - maybe there's an idea for the future!!!
This was our dog's second two week holiday with Barking Mad. She came back happy and relaxed. Efficient service and we would not even consider kennels.
Very pleased with Barking Mad. Bonzo always has a wonderful time when he is being looked after by one of their hosts.
Super service with no worries. Barking Mad representatives collected and delivered as arranged. Our little dog enjoyed his stay and was well matched with his Carers.
He came home very relaxed and happy and we were really pleased with his report and photos supplied. This service has certainly put our minds at rest and we can now go away secure in the knowledge that our dog will be well cared for.
Excellent service, dog very happy.
We are writing this after Deminka and Laika's second stay with Barking Mad (and only a few weeks away from their third).
On both occasions they both seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves, without any of the stress that we have always associated with Kennels (which we now have no intention of ever using).
As most dog owners will now, it is a godsend to be able to plan short family trips and knowing that in the instances where we can not take them with us, they are taken care of in a loving and comfortable environment.
Thank you so much to Steve and Tina for ensuring that Rafferty was taken care of whilst we were on holiday. As this was the first time he had been left with anyone other that the family for any length of time we were a little anxious but appreciated our "pup-dates" whilst we were away. A huge thank you to Lyn for her patience and understanding, especially the first two days when Rafferty was settling in. He apologies profusely for pooing in your bedroom - he has NEVER done that before! All was well in the end however and he came back having had a lovely time with lots of attention. Thank you all again, and we will definitely use you again to look after our grumpy little chap (definitely Lyn!!)and would not hesitate to recommend your services to other dog owners.
Our 12 year old miniature poodle enjoys her time with her lovely host when she can't be with us. We have never sent her to kennels and trust Steve and the team to ensure that she is well looked after. She is an anxious rescue dog and going to an experienced host makes all the difference. We know that she settles well as soon as she sees Mavis and returns to us happy and relaxed.
Our thanks to Steve and the Barking Mad Team.
Our beloved puppy Candy has recently returned from her 2 weeks stay. We missed her but know there will be times that she can't come with us. We first got in touch with Steve in March following a recommendation from a friend. Steve came and spent time with our family as he got to know Candy and was very supportive when it came to a trial weekend. Having this trial weekend was very wise and i soon realised it was a trial run for me too...so when our holiday came in August, I knew what to pack, what to expect and how it works when it was time for Candy to go.
We missed her and talked about her on holiday..one day one of my children said ' I am Candy sick'...BUT I never worried about her and I knew she was in good hands and we would be with ether again soon.
The service is clearly well thought through, from collection and transportation and a postcard when she returned!!
This is an excellent service and Steve has been a reassuring, professional and very friendly and I know we will be contacting Steve in the future for sure.
A massive thanks to Stephen again for placing Coco. our energetic cocker spaniel with a super host family. He came back really happy & still pleased to see us !! after 2 weeks. I was anxious that she'd behave herself as has been spoiled over the holidays by our teenage son. Stephen sent us a few photos of Coco showing she was really happy. Complete peace of mind whilst away.
Many thanks to Stephen and our host family for looking after Theo our Weimaraner - he has been going on his holidays with Barking Mad since he was a puppy and he is always very happy to go off . He came back happy and relaxed and slept for a day this time (he is nearly 8 now) - and I know that he has been very well looked after and very well exercised! Thank you very much for such an efficient and professional service and for the care of the host families - and for the peace of mind to enjoy our holidays too.
Huge thanks to Stephen for once again placing our lovely Border Alfie with Mena & Bill for a grand total of 3 weeks...yet again Alfie was excited about HIS holiday from the word go! Lovely photos showed us how happy & content he was especially with his jaunt to their caravan! I am always recommending BM to other dog owners...complete piece of mind is ensured.
Once again Maisy came home relaxed and happy after her holiday. We can go away knowing she is in safe hands. Wonderful service from Steve, even managing to find a place at short notice. Thank you.
We were really happy with the service we got for Monty - it was very reassuring for us to know that he was returning to a couple he has had in the past and that know him - especially given his medical needs. Would, and do, always recommend Barking mad to other dog owner friends.
What a wonderful service, and thanks to you all. Alfie returned home relaxed and happy. Steve made sure he was safe indoors with mum (85) put his bed back in place and was really kind. Such a relief to know all was ok. Would recommend anytime. Hope I get the same service when I move to whitstable. Thank you all Posted by Paula Pearce
Very pleased with everything after what I thought was a 'rocky' start. Wasn't sure about dog being collected from us rather than us delivering which we've done before but that, too, seems to be fine.
Phoebe has been looked after by Barking Mad for many years now. The care shown by the families is testament to the professional service first shown by Hilary, and being carried on now by Steve. From collection to return we know that phoebe is in good hands and returns to us a happy and relaxed dog. We tell all our friends (both dog owners and non) about phoebes holiday and how much she loves it. Already starting to think towards next year - once again a big thank you to Steve and Barking Mad. We don't know what we would do without you!
Steve delivered Alfie back to my mum (85) a day before I was due back from holiday. Steve was lovely as mum is not too mobile, he unpacked Alfie's bag, put his bed back and made sure all was ok before he left, mum said he was a charming man and Alfie was at ease with him. Alfie was a stubborn tinker while I was away and would let the host know when he was not going to walk, yep, sits down and doesn't move till you turn round to go home. Alfie returned home a relaxed dog and I enjoyed my holiday. Thank you Barking Mad can not spread the word about you enough.
Our best wishes to you
Paula, mum & Alfie xxx Posted by Paula Pearce
An excellent service from start to finish. I felt totally assured from the start that Poppy would be looked after well. She was pampered by the host and seemed to love her stay.
Tilly is a very anxious dog but always comes home from her 'holiday' relaxed and happy, l am very pleased with the whole process of B.M they give a professional and sympathetic service to all dogs and their owners. 10/10.
As usual our two Toy Poodles came back from their recent stay with Lyn happy and well cared for.
Thank goodness for Barking Mad....I would never go away other wise!!!
We would very much like to thank Alison, who looked after our cockapoo Daisy last weekend. We were nervously anticipating our long weekend away as we had never left Daisy before as she is still only 9 months old - but Steve, and the whole Barking Mad service put our minds at ease. She was in her first season so was perhaps a bit more challenging to look after but we could tell she had had a lovely time and we really appreciated the post-card and pictures we were given at the end - they've been put up on the fridge!
Rolo is not the easiest dog to handle as he is frightened of other dogs while out on his lead so he likes to frighten them off by displaying aggressive behaviour and excessive barking. Stephen has introduced us to a trainer who has been helping us although it is still a 'work in progress'. He enjoys his stays with Auntie Sue and is usually very happy to jump into Steve's car to go on holiday. We can rest easy on holiday or business trips as we know that he will be well cared for with lots of cuddles from Sue though not from other dogs! Hope Rolo's snoring hasn't disturbed you too much Sue.
Would just like to thank Lyn who looked after Misty, our springer spaniel last week. She came back as happy as she went & she wasn't the easiest of dogs to look after as she was on lots of medication due to a back injury. She also had to be on complete rest, which if anyone knows a springer it is not an easy job! We have used Barking Mad several times & our dog always comes back happy which is so important.
I had been let down and contacted Barking Mad to see if they were able to help. I was only able to give them 2 weeks notice and Steve contacted me and arranged a home visit to meet Kiera, my greyhound, the following day. He organised for a carer and collected her on time and took her away for her holiday. After a few days, she was delivered safely back complete with a couple of photos of her stay with the host family. I was very impressed with the details taken of all her likes and dislikes and the prompt and friendly service. I would highly recommend them to anyone else and most certainly use their service again; they were brilliant!
This was our first time using Barking Mad and the service was excellent from start to finish. Real peace of mind, even before Bonnie went away. Very clear, friendly and professional procedure. Bonnie's postcard was amazing and filled us in on what she'd been up to whilst away. I have read it over and over, it makes me smile. I didn't know they did 'walking holidays' for dogs?! She would have enjoyed that so much, along with the love and fuss that Liz gave her. I am very grateful to Liz and BM. I know that when I use you again I can think of the wonderful holiday Bonnie is having.
Alfie our much loved border terrier enjoys his annual holidays with Mena & Bill so much so that he has a good sulk on return!!We are very happy with his care & know he is much loved by his hosts,he even enjoys a holiday at their caravan whilst we are away....who can argue with the phrase 'its a dogs life'!!
Maisy had a lovely holiday, as always and came home relaxed and happy. We could relax knowing she was being cared for in a family home and had the attention she needed. You give us a brilliant service, I'll never use kennels again!Thank you.
I could never leave Monty in kennels so Barking Mad is an excellent alternative. He has had quite a few BM holidays now and from his postcards, it sounds as though he enjoys them as much as the hosts enjoy him.

I know that I can trust Barking Mad to find my dog a loving and caring home whilst I am away and know that they will always try to find someone whenever I need them. My dog always comes back vibrant and well. I like the postcard too!
Barking Mad is fantastic, I don't know how I could go away without them! Polly has always been looked after brilliantly and I'm most grateful for their fantastic service. I have recommended Barking Mad to all my friends.
Best wishes and Many Thanks to Steve and Hilary.
Jasper was obviously treated very well on his stay, we had a lovely card to tell us what he's been up to and he came back relaxed and happy. I don't doubt he would love to go again - he might get more attention than he does at home!!
I've already recommended Barking Mad to friends.
Mo-Jo and Maya have been away with Barking Mad a second time, and I think they really enjoyed it. It meant that I could relax and enjoy my time away, knowing that they were being well looked after.
It took a weight off my shoulders knowing that Lucky was being well looked after so I could re-arrange our flights home after they were cancelled due to the weather.
The Mo-Jo & Maya were very excited to be home with me again, but they very soon settled down with no signs of anxiety or distress, indicating that they had not overly been upset at being away
We would like to thank you for your fantastic service. I don't know what I could have done without Barking Mad!
We have always been content to know our dog is being well cared for with her 'host' family!
Hosting with Barking Mad gives us the pleasure of having a lovely variety of dogs to care for and enjoy without the full time commitment that dog ownership brings; and with Barking Mad always available to offer help and advice, it’s a carefree experience and a lot of fun.
Poppy came back very chilled and smelling of roses. She was in a better state than when she left us!
Thank you so much for looking after Lucy recently whilst we were on holiday. She came back a very happy contented dog. She’s tried to top up her tummy tan when the sun is shining since then! Once again, many thanks – I will have no hesitation in booking Barking Mad again.
Best wishes and love!
I just wanted to thank you for the amazing service and peace of mind you gave us whilst we were away. It was wonderful to know that Barnie was in a safe and loving environment. Please pass on our very special thanks to Mavis. Her card was delightful and so much appreciated. I actually think Barnie is missing her as he was very subdued for 24 hours. We will not hesitate to you use Barking Mad again and just hope that Mavis will be free to look after Barnie.

EXCITING BARKING MAD NEWS THIS JULY!
After a successful group dog walk last month, Barking Mad have already prepared another dog walking event, which is guaranteed to make you feel good – and not just for getting those trainers on!

The Big Summer Charity Dog Walk 2017….
It really is going to be an epic adventure, as dogs and humans walk side by side to raise vital funds for two incredible charities.
About the National Search and Rescue Dog Association
Dating as far back as the first World War, where dogs helped find troops missing on the battlefield, dogs have played a key role in providing emergency support for critical incidences, all over the world. The lives of lost mountaineers in snowy, sub-zero conditions, missing children, drowned victims and victims of natural disasters, are saved daily because of the incredible abilities the dog possesses. Through specialised training, SARDA dogs have been able to pick up scents and recall it over a long period of time, whilst their thick fur can keep them warm whilst searching for victims in wet and cold conditions.
About Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice
Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is a community-based hospice service providing support for children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families in Central and North London and Hertsmere. Our mission is:
• to provide care and support for children and young people from birth who have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition. Our aim is to enable them to live full lives and to achieve their aspirations;
• to ensure that families are able to live life as fully as possible while their child is still alive and go on to face the future with hope after bereavement.

To get your paws on the prize, keep an ear out for the big announcement, and we’ll see you at The Big Summer Charity Walk 2017!
As announced in May, we teamed up with East Surrey Walkers to mark the beginning of Summer with a fantastic 3-mile ramble amongst Surrey’s naturally beautiful countryside.
21 walkers gathered with dogs in tow outside the Carpenters Arms in Limpsfield on Saturday 3rd June, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.
The sun stayed shinning all day long, and temperatures soared to just below 25 degrees!
The walk, which wondered through gorgeous woodlands, was enjoyed by all – especially the dogs who were let off lead for most of the walk; enjoying meeting each other, playing and running alongside their other new canine friends.
Meg, our own dog, loved running up and down the rambling pack making sure everyone was having a good time – and unfortunately enjoyed the mud a bit too much, coming home with 4 black boots to match her pure white coat!
The walk was a great success and we’ve come away ready to plan another! It was great to see our two hosts at the walk too, with their host dogs – Sasha and Finn, who just like the rest of the pack were ready for an afternoon nap.
We’ve got some great action shots from the day on our Facebook page, so please feel free to go check them out.
Lastly, a big thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday and keep an ear out for announcements for the next Barking Mad Dog Walk.
For some months now Barking Mad Purley and North-East Surrey have been planning our first ever FREE Barking Mad Dog Walk.
We have partnered with local walking group, East Surrey Walkers [link: eastsurreywalkers.org.uk], to bring Barking Mad Hosts, Customers and the general-public a rambling spectacular.
With walking leader Keith Chesson, Barking Mad and East Surrey Walkers will be setting trails with wagging tails on 3rd June 2017 at 10am, starting at The Carpenters Arms Pub in Limpsfield.
AND YOU’RE INVITED!
Grab a friend, two or four legged, and join us for the Barking Mad Dog Walk!
The 3-mile walk concludes with a group lunch, where treats for human and dog will be provided in the form of goody-bags and cake.
Send us your name and email address to;
Where you’ll be sent the official Barking Mad Dog Walk e-invite.
We can’t wait to see you there,
The Barking Mad Team
We are beginning to see a glimmer of the summer to come, as daffodils and daisies start sprouting at our feet and the sun, in those slightly warmer evenings, sets just a little later each night.
With Easter weekend just around the corner animals are coming out of hibernation, lambs are being born, chicks are hatching and bunnies have the focus on the eve of Easter Sunday. It truly is a beautiful time of year; full of positivity and beautiful new animals.
With that in mind, what better month to have National Pet Month than April!
That’s right, to top off all the natural beauty this month, we also have 4 glorious weeks to celebrate those creatures which make our lives and hearts a lot fuller!
Whatever the pets you have they each become part of the family and of our daily routines. In fact, I think many would agree that these non-human animals we bring into our homes are no longer pets in our eyes, but unconditionally loving companions and equals.
So, we thought to ourselves – how can we celebrate National Pet Month with our fellow customers and hosts? And then we came up with an idea!
Our pets are our best friends, but we aren’t the ONLY friends they have. A rabbit, mouse, cat, dog… snail? Might also be their companion!
We thought, YES let’s celebrate our pets this month with a PET-PANION PARADE! Sharing photos of our pets with their most beloved companions – whatever it is, even if it’s just their favourite toy!
Here’s how it’s going to work:
1. You send us your Pet-Panion photo(s) to Danie.firstname.lastname@example.org
2. We parade everyone’s photos on our Facebook and Instagram page as a photo carousel, for you to share with your friends (because let’s be honest – we love to show off our pets!)
3. We pick a winner photo, which will become the face of Barking Mad Purley and North-East Surrey for 1 whole month – so as our Facebook cover, in our emails and next months newsletter too!
Last month Barking Mad ran a story competition, sniffing out heart-warming tales about dogs. We had lots of beautiful stories and it was clear that if you’ve had a family dog, then chances are you have a unique story to tell!
However, one particular story stood out - the story about Clint who is this months winner of a free pet photography shoot at Andrew Franklin Photography.
Read on to find out about what makes Clint, the Labrador-Collie cross, so unique and special.
“Clint is a black Lab-Collie cross, but what makes him extra special is he is a dwarf! We rescued him 7 years ago, but I remember how we first came to meet Clint as if it was yesterday.
We had been looking at various rescue centres in London and they were mostly full of staffs - which were not suitable for us. But, during a visit to Harefield Dogs Trust Centre, we were told they might have a pup for us. After showing us a picture, the lady went out back to fetch Clint. Out waddled Clint, with a huge cone around his neck (he had just had an anal mass removed). The ladies first words were "he is a bit shorter than we expected". With a normal body and feet but mars bar sized legs, he bounded over to us…. it was love at first sight.
He had been rescued from Ireland which were overrun with strays – had Harefield not taken some in, the dogs would have been put down! So, it was Clint’s lucky day. He was already well trained when we brought him home, so we can only assume he was an abandoned pet. Regardless, he was with us now and in his forever home.
We were told he was only three but his grey beard told us otherwise. The vet confirmed he was at least 6 when he was rescued, so we certainly have a wise gentleman within the family now.
The last seven years have been filled with lots of fond memories. Clint has always been there to put a smile on my face. He does the usual dog things such as running to the door to greet me. I would like to think I'm his favourite (just don't tell my brothers!). Every night without fail he would climb the stairs and snuggle up into my bed for cuddles. Waking up to him curled under my duvet is always a good start to the day - even when I visit home now he curls up as if I had never been gone. Clint is truly one of the family now - he gets presents and cards at Christmas, and his birthday too. His favourite meal is of course when he joins us for Christmas dinners and he has been on many family holidays including camping trips and going to a truck festival!
The last seven years haven’t been completely plain sailing though. Within the first few years we became aware of health issues that come with being a dwarf dog. He had many eye infections and ended up making many trips to the vets. Eventually after a nasty bout, we were referred to a specialist. Clint's retina was detaching and he would lose sight in his eye. They eventually confirmed it was genetic and informed us his other eye could go the same way and there was no telling if nor when it would happen. Fortunately, he still has sight and hasn't suffered anymore eye infections (touch wood) since. So now Clint has one normal eye and a very grey cloudy eye making him even more unique (if that was possible)
Our hardest time came at the beginning of this year, where we had a scare with the nasty C word. Clint had a large lump form under his front leg causing him to limp. He had to have day surgery to have it removed. Being the old man he is, it was difficult to say how he would react to being put under, and as I currentlylive away from home it was difficult not being there with him. Fortunately, he came through fine, and on a more positive note the lump was tested and its was not cancerous! Clint had a lipoma -it was such a relief. Losing Clint would have caused the whole family to crumble, it would be like losing a brother to me.
We cherish all the time we have with him; he is definitely a spoilt pooch. I like to think that despite the difficulties we have faced with him, we have given Clint his perfect forever home. It is clear he understands the love and affection we give him because he gives it back tenfold. Even if Clint does not win anything in this competition, he is winning in life and he is winning in my eyes. I even have a bag and a cushion with his face printed on them so he can be with me even when I can't be at home. He is my winner and no one will change my mind.

Valentines Day and Pancake Day arguably makes February the month of Love and Generosity - greatly needed after a long, cold and dark January. In this special news item, we will explore our relationships with dogs and their memories of us, and how they may very well be the true ‘One’ in our lives.
At some point we have all experienced a bond with a dog – whether our own or someone else’s. How can we not fall in love with them, when they patiently anticipate our arrival home; greeting us with a wagging tail and tapping paws, as they can barely contain their excitement. It is remarkable how these canine companions express their love for us every day, simply because we – their special someone – have returned home.
Recently, researchers have been comparing human memory with that of a dog. The results of a year-long research with 17 dogs has proven that, like the way the human’s memory works (episodically), a dog’s memory functions in the same manner.
All animals are instinctively built to recognise its parent by face or voice, however a dog’s memory goes beyond just recognising us. In a series of training sessions, 17 dogs were taught the ‘Do as I do’ training method, in which the dog observes its owners’ actions and taught how to copy. After successfully completing the training, researchers tested the dog’s memory by using the commanding words ‘Do It’, without the visual prompt. Dogs were tested 1 minute, 1 hour and then 1 day after the training sessions. The dogs could recall their owner’s actions by instantly replaying the action, however they were unable to recall some days later.
The research teaches us that dogs are sympathetic to their environment, obtaining information around it and recalling that information for some time.
Valentines Day has just passed, which is an event that often prompts us to reminisce over memories of our loved ones. However, could it be that our true loved one is indeed our dog(s)? I am sure there are plenty of you who will agree.
In honour of February, the month of Love and Generosity, we are sniffing out heart-warming memories of you and your fellow woofers. And to make sure those memories stay with you forever, we are giving away a Free Pet Photography Shoot with Andrew Franklin Photography.

This is our first Christmas as Barking Mad owners, after taking over the reins of Purley and North East Surrey back in May.
Since then we have been overwhelmed by how dedicated, friendly and truly wonderful our hosts are, thus we endeavoured to bring 2016 to a close with party, food and plenty of bubbles.
On the 4th of December we hosted our inaugural host Christmas party and are delighted to say we all enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of festive treats (the mini Christmas cakes were a marvellous hit), and sparkling conversation.
The party gave us an opportunity to demonstrate the appreciation we have for our hosts – for without them, tails wouldn’t be wagging.
We are delighted to announce that Danie Morgan has joined us as our Dog Holiday Marketing Co-ordinator. She has a background in theatre marketing, is a dog lover and is looking forward to meeting our customers and their dogs and our hosts. She is excited about being a key resource in our drive to grow our business and attract new customers and hosts.
