April 2017
Oh how we have enjoyed the warmer weather this last month! We have enjoyed some marvellous holidays with your dogs, gorgeous walks and great company.
Looking for more HOSTS for our Barking Mad family!
As the holiday season starts I am looking for more lovely Barking Mad hosts, I cover many areas from Staines, Sunbury, Ascot, Windsor, Iver and everywhere in between.
Dog sitting has become more and more popular as it is so rewarding for both hosts and the dogs of course, dog boarding doesn’t need to be hard work, and we only place one dog per household so that there is not worry that they will have to get along with other dogs on holiday.
Maybe you have just lost your own dog and you want some company before committing to getting another, lots of my hosts are retired and like to travel a lot and so hosting fits in perfectly with their busy life as they just let me know when they are free to have a dog on holiday. Also many teachers find hosting just what they need, they can have a dog in the school holidays times which is also when I am at my busiest.
Whatever your situation it is important for you to know that:
1. I only match one dog to one home at the same time (or two if they are from the same family and the host is happy to have two).
2. I only take on friendly, happy doggies so it is a pleasant experience for everyone!
3. I am on call 24 hours a day and go above and beyond to make sure my hosts are happy.
4. Hosts tell me when they are free to have a dog, some only host a few times a year when it suits them, some hosts only have one dog that they have on holiday every time, it is totally flexible to suit you.
5. It is fabulous FUN and very rewarding, for some of my hosts who were feeling a bit lonely before they started hosting, it really has been a life changer.
So if you think dog sitting could be for you just call me for a chat on 01784 390263.

Our Host Party
We had a fabulous Christmas host party at the end of December, fun was had by all! We didn’t have a fancy dress competition but that didn’t stop fabulous hosts Pat and Vernon dressing up!
We held it at the lovely village hall of St Andrew’s in Wraysbury, it is a lovely venue, with a little kitchen area and perfect for parties of up to 40 people. Thank you for letting us have our Barking Mad party there! http://www.standrewswraysbury.co.uk

New Year – New You
We have had record amounts of new hosts sign up to get fit for the New Year. Hosting is absolutely ideal if you want to enjoy the company of a dog and get fit. We have plenty of gorgeous dog’s in all shapes and sizes that adore their walks and will be just the encouragement you need to get up and out again. Saying that, I also have many customers with elderly dogs that like nothing better than to curl up in front of the fire and chill out with you, lovely company for my more mature hosts.

Summer Fun!
I had a fabulous time this Summer meeting lots of locals at the Summer fete’s and fairs. It was amazing to have so much interest in Barking Mad, from both a customer and host point of view. It was then even more fantastic to sign up some new host families as a result of the fairs and see them enjoying a lovely doggie on holiday before the Summer was out, we had lots of happy faces all around!
I even won best trade stall of the fair at the Englefield Green Fair, presented by the lovely David Furnish (who I did try to sign up as a host… ;-), well a girl’s got to try!)

FIREWORKS - fun for us.... scary for our dogs...

fireworks.jpgSome degree of fear is normal but extreme fear can be very distressing for both the dogs and us. I advise customers not to go on holiday in firework season if their dog gets very distressed, and we will refuse dogs who are known to be highly stressed at this time.

However, here are some guidelines on how to prepare for fireworks for your visiting dogs: Signs a dog is worried about fireworks include: - ears back - excessive panting - drooling - shaking - hiding away - barking

Think like a dog! They are scared by the loud noise but don't understand that they won't be hurt, they will often want to hide away, so you can make a safe den for them as secure as possible.

Shut windows and doors and close the curtains, turn on the TV or music to muffle the sound.

Try to distract them by playing a game or giving a chew.

Walk them in daylight when there is no risk of a firework going off.

Don't punish them for any unwanted behaviour or this will make them more stressed. But some dogs love them - we have many that like to sit in the garden and watch them!
