Glossop News – September 2017

Summer Madness

We’ve had a busy summer attending lots of events to get our Barking Mad brand out there to the local people. We met lots of lovely dogs and their owners. Bracken’s Gotcha Day – 3rd September 2017
When we rescued our adorable springer spaniel, Bracken last September, little did we know how our life would change.
Bracken joined us on the 3rd September last year from the South Yorkshire English Springer Spaniel Rescue and to celebrate I have made a collage of photos of the cheeky chap. He is such a loving dog and is obsessed with his tennis balls. He loves to go on his walks, no matter what the weather is doing! He makes us get out and about even in the worst of weather. Here’s to many more years enjoying him and funny antics.
If you are thinking of getting a dog please consider adopting and giving a home to a dog who is in need.

                                                     New Year, New You

                                       dog walking pic.png

If you feel that you lack confidence and that you will never achieve your dreams, look towards your canine best friend. Dogs see us as pack leaders worthy of worship and live in the moment, without worrying about the past. To your dog, you are their whole world and they have total belief in your abilities.
By involving your dog in your plans for 2017, Barking Mad Glossop believes that you will have far more chance of success than just by setting goals.
Dogs are now being widely recognised as motivational. The Kennel Club has launched a Bark and Read initiative, where children benefit from practising their reading to dogs! The Kennel Club states that reading to a dog, “enhances self-esteem, motivates speech and inspires children to have fun and enjoy the experience of reading.”
Similarly, the University of Stirling is so convinced by the benefits of ‘human – dog interaction’ that they have set up ‘Paws for Progress’ as part of their behaviour and evolution research. Young offenders are taught to improve rescue dogs’ behaviour to provide ‘positive and rewarding interactions’. Working together with the dogs meant that the young offenders gained, “increased self-achievement of targets and goals”.
If you want to improve your health and fitness levels, exercise can be far more enjoyable if you involve your dog! How about extending the length of dog walks or taking up a new activity, such as dog agility? Or if you feel like you would like to meet new people, how about brushing up your dog’s skills by joining a training class, or varying your dog walking route and chatting to other dog walkers?
Here at Barking Mad Glossop we would love to see some photos of you enjoying your dog walks and smashing your 2017 goals! Please send to dawn.dean@barkingmad.uk.com or post on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BarkingMadDogCareGlossop/

Help with Dog Visits to Lonely Neighbours

                                                       dawn1.jpg

Taking your favourite dog for a visit, could be the perfect conversation starter to break the ice with lonely or elderly neighbours this Christmas!

Barking Mad Glossop is inviting dog lovers to join us in sharing a little festive spirit with our neighbourhood.

                                                           dawn2.jpg

Age UK’s No one should have no one at Christmas http://www.ageuk.org.uk/no-one/ campaign states that a staggering ‘1.2 million older people are chronically lonely’. If you would like to help us tackle this statistic, a common sense approach is obviously required and your favourite dog must be of suitable temperament.

                                                        dawn3.jpg

GMTV’s initiative for 1 Million Minutes to be donated by people is also a great campaign that is worth getting involved with to combat loneliness in the elderly. Follow the link for more info http://www.itv.com/goodmorningbritain/1millionminutes/1-million-minutes

We will be promoting the initiative via our Facebook page

https://www.facebook.com/BarkingMadDogCareGlossop/ throughout December and would absolutely love to hear from you, if you and your favourite dog have managed to spread a little festive cheer!
Thank you in advance and Happy Christmas!

Dawn and the Barking Mad Glossop Team.

October 2016

A great write up in the Mosley Correspondant online for Barking Mad Glossop, you can read the article here:

http://www.mossleycorrespondent.co.uk/?p=992

“Working with our lovely hosts and our customers and their dogs is a dream job for me. Who doesn’t want to be greeted by a wagging tail and a wet nose each day? But also, one of the reasons I bought the franchise is so that I could get another dog.”

Changing fixed full time hours to a flexible, home based career has meant that Dawn has finally been able to fulfil her dream and has recently been joined by Bracken, a very lovely 8 year old Springer Spaniel.
She enthuses: “We have always had dogs from pups in the past but this time we wanted to rescue one if we could. I have always loved spaniels and as we enjoy lots of outdoor activities, especially walking, we wanted a dog that would be able to join in with us and enjoy our adventures.

I contacted the South Yorkshire English Springer Spaniel Rescue after seeing a picture of Bracken on their facebook page. He had been with them for over 2 months and they were appealing for a home for him. When I contacted them we were due to go on holiday, so they advised me to call them when we got back but that Bracken may have already been re-homed, as they had lots of interest in him.

Dawn Dean Bracken.jpg       Bracken - Sweet Jam Photography.jpg

Fortunately, when we came back home I called them and he was still available! Someone had gone to meet him but he was too strong for them on his lead. I think it was meant to be!

When we went to meet him, we fell in love straight away. He is so cute and loving. He does pull on the lead but I’m sure with a bit of training we can improve that. His recall is excellent and he comes back to us no problem when out on walks and he is off lead. He loves playing with his tennis balls and having his belly tickled. He also really enjoys a trip to the seaside. It’s all still fairly new so he may have some more quirks we have not seen yet but he has certainly settled in.”
