July 2017

Here at Barking Mad, Chesterfield we are in the middle of a busy summer. Many of our lovely customers are going away for well deserved breaks, we are taking their beloved dogs for their very own dog holidays with our great host families. Time is now running short but for those of you who haven’t booked anything yet there a still a few places available over the summer for those last minute deals. Also don’t forget those Autumn breaks and the half term break in October for time away.

We have recently had stalls at the RSPCA dog show held at Eastwood Park, Hasland and Dogs Unleashed held on Bakewell Showground where we met lots of new friends and their gorgeous dogs. They were busy days and it’s great to see so many people enjoying spending time with their dogs at these events.

Our dogs have lots of fun while they are away, pictured are dalmations, Lukas and Halle enjoying a paddle and a swim in the river. During the recent hot weather we have had they wanted a cool off and the river provided the perfect opportunity!

We held a recent host event which was an afternoon tea at Hackney House Tea Rooms at Barlow. This was held as a thank you to my wonderful hosts who do a fabulous job of making sure that the dogs in their care have a great time while they are with them. We are always looking for dog lovers who have time to spare to help us to provide the invaluable support of looking after dogs while their owners are away. It’s a great alternative to kennels providing dog boarding in your own home. For more information, contact Louise Self on 07398 155035.

March 2017

Spring is almost upon us and the nights are getting lighter. Here at Barking Mad, we are busy registering new dogs for the forthcoming Summer season, and we have welcomed all breeds of dogs from a French Bulldog to a Vizsla this week. Remember we are not just an alternative to kennels but your dog’s holiday is an opportunity for them to have a holiday of their own and meet new people and dogs along the way, they will also be kept to the same routine that they have at home and be able to take their own luggage with no extra baggage charge!!!

We recently ran a host walk where we took some of our doggy guests on a walk with a number of hosts as a social event in Calver recently. We walked along the river, admittedly it was a bit boggy but everybody enjoyed getting out with the dogs despite the rain!! It was topped off by a visit to the Eating House at Derbyshire Craft Centre in Calver who made both ourselves and the dogs very welcome, they also provided some lovely cakes for us to sample – bliss!!! They have an outside covered seating area and water for the dogs, there was also a jar of dog biscuits which Teddy worked out that if he knocked if over the top fell off and a few biscuits would fall out much to his delight. We had to put a stop to that before he scoffed the lot!!!!

                                                         self.png

We also had a talk about Barking Mad, its hosts and how the service works at Walton WI last week. The ladies were lovely and took part in a dog quiz to test their knowledge about some interesting dog facts. Did you know that the oldest dog as at the end of 2016 lived to 29 years and 5 months?

We have also been busy visiting local businesses and leaving copies of our newsletters in their waiting rooms, if anyone would like a copy of our newsletter, just drop me a text or e-mail and I can either e-mail one out or send it in the post.

Just a reminder to all customers, if you have not booked your dog’s summer holidays let us know when they are going to be as soon as possible, and if you have any queries at all, please be sure to get in contact with Louise.

January 2017

A belated Happy New Year to all our customers, hosts and of course all the lovely dogs who we care for. Barking Mad have launched a lovely new logo as will be seen from the home page which includes a change of uniform and there will soon be some colour in our uniforms when we are transporting dogs and not just the standard black/grey.

So far, this year we have been busy booking summer holidays for customers’ dogs and have been meeting some great new pooches who are coming to stay this year. Barking Mad also has a new logo “Happy Dog, Happy Holiday, Happy You”. We aim to provide the ingredients for your dog to have an entertaining and fun stay with us while enjoying all the home comforts they are used to. Our dog holidays are tailored mad to the individual dogs’ requirements with their welfare being our main priority.

A host event has been arranged for a local dog walk which will be an opportunity for our host community to get together for a good natter and refreshments following a walk. We are going to don our wellies and brave the rain and mud at this time of year. Fingers crossed for some decent weather, photos to follow. Please contact Louise on 07398 155035 if you are interested in becoming a host and joining our great team of dog lovers.

If you have any queries or want to enquire about availability, again give Louise a call on the above number.

December 2016

Well, where has the year gone??!!! Heading towards a year in business and 2016 has been a year of massive change for me personally, but Barking Mad has risen from strength to strength. My new driver/assistant, Julie Allen has started work for our team. Julie has a wealth of dog experience, including knowledge of different breeds of dogs which she is already putting to good use. We have previously worked together and know each other well and, more importantly, she loves dogs. Many hosts and customers have already met Julie and she is a great addition to our team.

We are due to have our host afternoon tea/Christmas party at H & F Vintage Tearooms in Chesterfield on 8 December 2016 at 2 pm, so anyone who is interested in becoming a host or who would like to talk to existing hosts about what it is like and what’s involved, please feel free to join us.

Dog holidays – If your doggy loves the idea of spending some time with us while you enjoy your summer (or winter, for that matter!) sun, please contact Louise on 07398 155035 to book your holiday at 2016 prices.

To all our hosts, customers and their dogs. Enjoy the Christmas celebrations and have a fantastic Christmas and Happy New Year. I am around over the Christmas period, no rest for the wicked!! So any questions or enquiries, do not hesitate to contact me.

September 2016

Well the Summer holidays are over now and we are almost into Autumn. Here at Barking Mad Chesterfield we don’t want to think about the dark nights that are almost upon us and instead are having a more positive focus and looking at the half term holiday in October and the Christmas holidays. I have a few spaces available in October and availability at Christmas, so book quickly to avoid disappointment.

We have been busy travelling around the vets in the Chesterfield/Sheffield area delivering leaflets to promote our service, you only have to see from the reviews on our site, Facebook and Google that we have a list of satisfied customers. It is extremely important to us that we have a service that puts the needs of the dogs and customers first. We also have some lovely hosts without whom we wouldn’t be able to operate and they too massively contribute to our being able to offer great dog holidays to our customers.

It has been recently been broadcast on the news that the numbers of ticks are on the increase and if they attach themselves to humans they can cause Lyme disease which is particularly nasty. Many reputable flea repellents also guard against ticks but it is worth checking and making sure yours does. If your dog gets a tick (a small hard light brown shell which attaches to the skin) make sure it is removed properly and not just pulled off to ensure that body parts are not left buried in the skin. At Barking Mad we have a tick remover in case a dog should get one while staying with us.

We were at the RSPCA Big Walkies recently at Holmebrook Valley Park. 120 people took part in it and it was a great afternoon. There were dogs of all shapes and sizes as can been seen down below (Amos & Audrey, a Great Dane and Shar Pei cross). The weather was good and it was a great social event. I met with lots of dog owners and their lovely dogs and it was great to be involved in something that does so much good for the local community.

The RSPCA raised £1,700 from the event and that is without some of the sponsorship money being returned yet so they estimate that it will be in the region of £2,000 so well done everybody!! They are currently in the process of planning and raising the money for a new kennel block to enable them to continue their excellent work.

On Sunday 14th August, Barking Mad Chesterfield had a stall at Greenhill Park for Lowedges Festival and Dog Show. We met some lovely people (and dogs) and had a great time. We have put some photos below of the day. As you can see, the table was covered in Barking Mad merchandise.

Summer is upon us and the holiday season is in to full swing, if you have not booked your dog care by this point you will need to act fast to avoid disappointment as availability will soon become limited.
It was good to meet lots of people at the RSPCA Dog Show on 18 June, we ran a stall which included a “Name the Dog” competition and a tombola. Our mascot (below) was successfully named “Maggie”. Well done to 12 year old Grace for picking the name and winning a hamper of sweets. We managed to raise £50 for the RSPCA at this event.

As some of you may be aware Barking Mad is a relatively new service in the Chesterfield/South Sheffield/Alfreton area and I have been out and about in the area putting leaflets up in cafes, garden centres, doctors, dentists and local shops. I have also been to Sainsburys in Chesterfield handing out leaflets and talking to some of you regarding both customer enquiries and host recruitment. I have met a lot of lovely people and it is always a pleasure to have a chat and hear about your lovely dogs.
