Dog Hosting in Exeter – Why Our Hosts Love Doing it

There are many reasons why our hosts love dog sitting for Barking Mad Exeter. We have shared a few of the top reasons people chose to become a host with us below.

It’s Not a Full Time Responsibility

One of the main reasons people love the idea of becoming a dog host in Exeter is because our hosts get the benefits of dog ownership without the full-time responsibility. Sometimes work, financial and time commitments can get in the way of being able to own a dog but hosting fits around their lifestyle.

Many of our Exeter dog hosts are active in the community and are members of clubs and organisations. Becoming a dog host in Exeter allows them to carry on with their favourite social activities and enjoy the company of a dog on the days or weekends when they don’t have anything planned.

It’s Nice to Have a Dog Around the House

Some of our hosts have been dog owners in the past and have turned to becoming a dog host in Exeter as a way of having a dog around the house again. Losing a pet is a very difficult time and we understand that they will never be replaced. However, having a friendly face with a wagging tail in the house again, even just for a week at a time, is a great way to introduce the joy of having a dog back into your life.

It Gives Their Current Dog a Playmate

For some of our hosts, becoming a dog host in Exeter is more about being able to give their dog someone to play with from time to time. It’s not uncommon for our hosts to already own a dog for which they would like to give some extra company. Of course, it’s important that the dogs get on so we make sure they have a trial stay before deciding whether or not it is right for them.

We’ve got some really friendly faces at Barking Mad Devon who can’t wait to pack their bags and head out on their summer holidays, and our hosts couldn’t be happier to welcome them! With the children on their holidays parents will be looking for fun and free activities in and around Devon to keep them occupied. Here at Barking Mad Devon we’ve got a number of families who do dog hosting as a family activity over the summer.  They really enjoy spending time with our dogs in a family environment, and here’s a few reasons why.

Getting Out the House

Our family dog hosts in Devon love nothing more than loading up the car and heading out for the day with their favourite pooch. Taking a dog along to some of the wonderful free attractions in Devon such as Sidmouth Town Beach and Blackdown Hills will give the children another friend to play with, and may even give you a little time for some r&r!

Exercise

If you’re more inclined to stick to your local area then taking one of our dogs out on an adventure walk is a great way to explore the local area and get the children doing some exercise. Devon has many lovely walks and cycle paths which are perfect for a stroll on a summers day or in the evening. You might even find some new places you didn’t know exist. Exploring the local area is a great free summer holiday activity in itself, let alone with a dog!

Introducing Children to the Responsibilities of Having a Pet

If you’ve ever thought about getting a dog as a family pet or are actively thinking about it, hosting one of our family friendly dogs is a perfect way to do a test run. As well as seeing how your children respond to having a dog around it’s a great opportunity to teach them about the responsibility of pet ownership and see if they’re ready to help with walks and feeding.
