Fundraising in all weathers

October is an important month for our charity partners Dogs For Good – October becomes Dogtober. In honour of this, we organised a charity walk at Centre Paws in Wymondham. Despite the wind and rain, Norfolk folk came from all over to support us. We had people travel from Lyng, Taverham and Ashby St Mary, which was brilliant. Of course all dogs got given a free biscuit and every human got given a leaflet about our dog holiday care and how we are a fabulous alternative to dog kennels. We raised £83 for Dogs For Good which we were absolutely thrilled with!

As it’s nearly Halloween, we couldn’t resist indulging our office doggies in some festive cheer! Our great friends at Centre Paws ran a ‘Dogwarts’ themed event, which everyone enjoyed. As well as having fun, we also managed to talk to lots of locals about our home boarding for dogs and we also do puppy sitting. We are starting to become well known in Wymondham and Barnham Broom!

We’ve also have some very exciting news this month in that we now have a third office dog! Bonnie the gorgeous Labrador now lives with Reggie. As she is only 6 months old, we are letting her find her feet before we give her an official title. She has already been working hard with Jess and has already helped spread the word about our overnight dog boarding service in Attleborough, Besthorpe and Trowse. As always Nellie is using her big puppy dog eyes to win over anyone she meets! Everyone always wants to listen to her explain how our home from home dog boarding service works.

In November, we are thrilled to be going back to Surlingham and supporting Teles Pattiserie with their Christmas Show on 17th November. We will also be returning to the Boudicca Hotel in Caistor St Edmunds on the 1st December.

Our lovely dog sitting hosts

June has been a very busy month here at Barking Mad South Norfolk! We were thrilled to discovered a new dog friendly spot in Ketteringham called the Orangery Tea Rooms. It is just outside of East Carleton and Intwood, so has the most gorgeous countryside surroundings. We love anywhere dog friendly so we knew it was the perfect location for a coffee morning with our dog sitting host families. The staff were brilliant and were all interested to hear about our dog home boarding service. We will definitely be back!

We also discovered another dog friendly treasure in Surlingham this month. We have often been to the surrounding villages of Rockland St Mary and Kirby Bedon but we confess this is our first visit to Surlingham and we were presently surprised! Teles Patisserie is a hidden treasure and as a dog-lover herself, the owner wanted to know about about our alternative to dog kennels. As with many of customers, home from home dog boarding is their only option for their precious pooch.

It wouldn’t be a Barking month without a coffee morning for our holiday dog-sitters at Centre Paws in Wymondham! After coffee and cake, we finished up the day with a lovely walk around the gorgeous field in Barnham Broom.

This month has been all about Norfolk exploration! We recently visited the lovely village of Lyng to check in with one of our top dog homeboarding customers and we discovered the wonderful Lyng stores. As a local business like ourselves, we made a little pitstop and chatted the lovely owners about our dog-sitting services and how we are the best alternative to kennels. As we were new in the area, the café staff were telling us about local villages to visit to help our search for holiday dog sitters. So next for us to visit is Elsing, Sparham and Bylaugh- stay tuned!

It was wonderful to talk to so many potential hosts for our dog-boarding service and tell them about how they could spend their school holidays with a four-legged companion. We also teamed up to organise our first quiz for our hosts. All the proceeds went to Dogs For Good and we raised over £180, which was a fantastic result. April has been a busy month for Barking Mad South Norwich! I have been on the search for dog lovers and that led us to find the Central Norfolk Walking For Health group. They run local walks in South Norfolk every week in the Norwich City Centre, Trowse, Loddon, Bergh Apton, Hethersett and many more. I was lucky enough to discover the wonderful village of Swardeston on my first walk and found these beautiful bluebells hiding behind the trees. What would have made the walk even more perfect would have been a dog! I will definitely be recommending this beautiful Swardeston walk to my Barking Mad hosts when they are dog-sitting.

I will be looking to alternate my coffee mornings between Janey’s and a café in Poringland to ensure it is convenient for all my hosts.

Forthcoming Events

May is also going to be a busy month as I have talks arranged at my local Church, Hethersett Methodist and the Wymondham University of the Third Age. As always I’m on the search for dog lovers to give our Barking Mad dogs the most relaxing doggy holidays! I’m also excited to attend my first dog show in Morley and can’t wait to see who will be the best show. Barking Mad South Norwich is also proud to sponsor the Hethersett Youth Club’s Fun Dog Show and Fete in June so stayed tuned for pictures to follow.
