Chesterfield Barking Mad – New Year 2018

We’re now well in 2018 and thoughts are already turning to summer holidays.  We have already had a number of bookings for Summer 2018 so don’t leave it too late, book your dog care now to avoid disappointment.

We are also looking to add to our team of hosts, without whom Barking Mad wouldn’t exist.  So if you are a dog lover who enjoys walking and caring for dogs, have time to spare and would like to have a dog in your home while their owners are away on holiday, get in touch with Louise on 07398 155035 for an informal chat.

Our host community had a festive afternoon tea at Ringwood Hall, Chesterfield during December.  We all enjoyed our sandwiches and cakes had a good laugh and chat.  Presents were also handed round to thank hosts for their dedication throughout the year.  Dates are soon to be set for further meet ups and dog walks.

Meet two of our lovely customers – Alfie and Minne (pictured above) – Both retired Greyhounds

Greyhounds make excellent family companions.  They only require two 20 minute walks a day and enjoy nothing more than relaxing much of the rest of the time.  They do enjoy a run around but remember they are sprinters and do not have much in the way of stamina so their bursts of energy do not last.  They are loving, affectionate dogs who are happy to fit into family life.  They are intelligent and calm dogs.  We have two customers who are greyhounds, Minnie, 3 years old who never really had much of a racing career due to the fact that she didn’t really see the point in running around a track.  The trap door would open and she didn’t want to race, after all what’s the point in running around a track after a piece of fur that you’re never going to catch?  That is a definite sign of intelligence!

Then there is Alfie, 11 years old who had a full racing career before being abandoned, tied to a tree.  He is the most easygoing dog you could ever wish to meet and when you think of the hard life that some of these dogs experience, having very little human contact they are incredibly gentle and forgiving.  Both these dogs have been out to host families who enjoy having them and welcome them back anytime.

If you have, or are thinking of booking summer holidays any time soon, whether you have a greyhound or another breed of dog, contact Louise Self at Barking Mad, Chesterfield to arrange your dog’s very own holiday with one of our dog boarding host families.

One of our longest serving hosts, Joan has been awarded “host of the month” during November.  She has hosted many dogs both big and small and always goes the extra mile to male sure the dogs in her care get the very best attention at all times.  So this is a well deserved award that recognises Joan’s contribution towards our service providing home to home dog care which is the very best alternative to kennels and pet sitters in the Chesterfield area.

The next event we are attending is at Bakewell Town Hall, The Square, Bakewell DE45 1BT on Saturday 2 December in aid of the RSPCA, Chesterfield.  It starts at 11 am and finishes at 3 pm.  If any of you would like to pop in and say hello, we would be pleased to see you and happy to discuss your dog’s individual requirements or provide more details and enquiries for potential hosts.

We will be enjoying an afternoon tea during December at Ringwood Hall, Chesterfield for our host families to say a big thank you for their help all year round by ensuring our customer’s dogs receive a first class service and with whom our business could not run without.
