At Barking Mad Dog Care, our fantastic host families are at the very heart of what we do. We simply couldn’t run our 5* service rated, dog sitting business without them! To honour our dog loving heroes we have introduced a Host of the Month feature.
We would like to announce with no further ado, that our Hosts of the Month for March are the amazing Jean and Eddie Cruickshank from the Lake District. Jean and Eddie have cared for over 100 doggy holidaymakers during their time as hosts for Barking Mad Cumbria – South Lakes and previously in Dorset.
Alison Quigley, owner operator of the Barking Mad South Lakes branch, couldn’t wait to nominate Jean and Eddie for our Host of the Month Award. She enthuses:
“I would like to nominate Jean and Eddie for Host of the Month with Barking Mad. They have cared for many doggy holiday makers and repeat guests during their time as hosts. They have been wonderful hosts who first hosted for Barking Mad in 2007, when they previously lived in Dorset and now here in the Lakes. They offer the best possible care for all the dogs they have to stay and always put them first. They are happy to accommodate larger breeds, even two large dogs from the same family and dogs requiring special attention. They have hosted canine friends including: Dachshunds, Labradors, Siberian Huskies, various cross breeds, Springer Spaniels, Boxers and even Great Danes! They are truly experienced and steady hands in caring for our valued customers’ doggy members of the family.
Jean and Eddie take their doggy guests on lovely walks on the fells, into nearby woods and lakes or provide a calm and relaxing environment for their older guests. They often take the camera with them when out and about with the dogs, providing owners with a lovely memento of their pet’s holidays, along with a detailed postcard when they return home.”
We would like to say a huge thank you to Jean and Eddie and all our other fantastic hosts. Your caring and dedication really do make such a difference and keeps tails wagging all year round!
What does being a host involve?
Our hosts love dogs but can’t or don’t want to have the commitment of full time dog ownership. They like being part of a dog loving community, enjoy canine companionship and the health benefits of dog walking and love spending quality time with the dogs that stay with them, safe in the knowledge that Barking Mad has made this arrangement fully safe, insured and easy to take part in.
Our local branches deal with the cost, administration and transport aspects of our ‘home from home’ dog boarding service but our wonderful hosts provide the crucial companionship and regular exercise that our dog holiday guests require. We really value their dedication and determination to ensure their guests have the best possible holiday.
Love dogs but can’t commit to your own full time?
Would you like to be part of a dog loving business?
Would having a dog make you feel less lonely?
Would having a dog help you to get fit?
Welcome to Barking Mad
If you love dogs but can’t commit to the full time financial and emotional responsibility of having a dog of your own, or if you have a very sociable dog who would benefit from visiting guests coming to stay, then you’ve come to the right place!
Our very own host families are extremely special people indeed. They have been selected carefully and interviewed in depth at home to ensure they meet our criteria. We get to know them really well and have worked with many of them for a great number of years.
Who are our hosts
It goes without saying, all of our hosts, without exception, are absolutely dotty about dogs. Some are actively retired people who’ve had dogs all of their lives but now enjoy the freedom and flexibility of caring for dogs on holiday. Others are younger, often with a family at home, where the addition of a visiting dog is great fun for all.
How it works
We’ve done all the hard work so you don’t have to. We think it’s important that our hosts concentrate on looking after visiting dogs and that they are not exposed to, or distracted by a constant flow of potential customers and dogs coming and going. Our hosts are also protected from the awkwardness of dealing with money, insurance and paperwork, so that the enjoyment of looking after visiting dogs remains their focus.
Support 24 Hours a Day – 7 Days a Week
Looking after someone else’s dog is great fun, however from time to time you may need a little local, on the ground support and it’s great to know we’re on hand 24/7 to provide just that.
If you’re interested in joining our fun, dog loving host community to become a pet sitter we’d love to hear from you.
