Laura and I are experienced dog owners having loved and cared for various breeds (German shepherd, Springer spaniel, Pomeranian) and now have plenty of free time as our 4 children flew the nest some years ago! We currently have a super, friendly cross German Shepherd / Collie called Louie who has a shiny black coat, a lovable face and he loves “fetching” sticks from any water source (puddle, pond, river, lakes and sea). Louie was a rescue dog and we took him over when he was just 6 months old. He shares the family home with Max the cat and they get on brilliantly! Louie even opens the patio door (on command) to let Max out! Efforts to train him to close the door have not yet been successful.....
Our home is in a very quiet neighbourhood not far from Laurence of Arabia’s graveyard and our network of dog holiday hosts are blessed with a diverse range of dog walks in open country, forests, heaths and riversides with the wonderful Jurassic coastline of Dorset nearby.
Laura has had a long, rewarding career in the Care sector supporting and developing people with learning disabilities and she loves being outdoors tramping around local walks with Louie and me.
I’ve had 2 successful careers, one with the Royal Artillery (24 years) and the second with government approved Training Providers for apprenticeships (16 years). As a Training provider senior manager I was privileged to work with the Household Cavalry (ceremonial) Mounted Regiment and dog handlers of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. Taking “retirement” early at 57, I was fortunate to discover Barking Mad just as the retirement novelty wore off!! Since then Laura and I have never looked back and we now enjoy our work time meeting lovely people and their gorgeous dogs. Goodbye “rat race....”
Highly impressed by the quality of the Barking Mad “alternative to kennelling service,” we “bought the local franchise” and are now developing our own business to take up the expected increase in Barking Mad service clients.
We aim to deliver a 5 star service so owners can enjoy their time away, assured that their lovely dog is receiving the exclusive, one to one, 24/7 care not always provided by other dog service providers.

Macey and Toby always come back from their holiday happy, which is a great comfort to us and the children always enjoying reading their postcard about Macey and Toby's adventures.
Cassie was really exhausted after her amazing adventure with Debbie and Dave. We are so relieved that at last there is somewhere safe and exciting for her to get a holiday when we do. Mega thanks to you both and of course Bob for door to door taxi-ing! We can now book our next holiday without panic! Oh and she is now quieter and more sociable - well done!
Dennis and Daisy had a fantastic holiday in Dorset. Their host family took them on some lovely adventures and looked after them so well Im sure they were sorry to leave. If anyone is considering leaving their beloved pet in the hands of Barking Mad, do not hesitate, they will be in safe hands .
Billy came back from his holiday totally relaxed and well exercised, and while we were away we received an e-mail saying how well Billy was settling in, how's that for a service!
The host was very well suited to Billy's needs.
Badger returned from his second stay as a happy little dog. We will certainly be using Barking Mad again this year!
Alfie's first sleepover went extremely well and he certainly seemed a happy little puppy when he came home. What a relief it is to me to know that I can go away knowing my lovely dog is going to be in capable hands with a host family who will look after him well. Thank you Barking Mad Bob!!
Lilly & Grace came back looking very happy and content, they obviously had a lovely holiday. We had some lovely picture and comments from the host family, which were really appreciated.

The practice was established over 150 years ago for the provision of veterinary services to farm animals. Today the centre is a small animal practice and prides itself on offering a combination of traditional values with modern techniques and a high level of expertise. We are currently a RCVS Tier 2 accredited practice.
Reception
Our receptionists can introduce you to the range of wormers and flea treatments we offer for sale. Our waiting area also stocks a wide array of pet accessories and products e.g. dog leads, collars, toys, shampoos and treats. You are always welcome to browse our well stocked display area. We can also supply and recommend specifically formulated pet foods for all the
different “life stages” that you dog or cat goes through. We primarily stock Royal Canin but can order in any of the major food brands for your pet.
Diagnostic Facilities
Our very experienced team of veterinary surgeons have a wide variety of diagnostic tools available to them to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of your pet. Many of these tools would not be out of place in a human hospital. For example we can offer X-ray, ultrasound, ECG, endoscopy and arthroscopy.
Our in-house laboratory facilities enable us to obtain quick, reliable results from blood, tissue aspirates and urine samples to aid diagnosis. For more in depth blood analysis, cytology and histology we use an external laboratory which collects samples by courier to ensure speedy results.
